Last Time I looked, Leicester was part of England ( I lived there for over 30 years). It’s a city with heart and character. His burial in Leicester was entirely appropriate and dignified and approved of by the Royal Family.

Ok, I looked this one up. For us, it will be released in December. Specifically the 26th. However, I'm pretty sure it will come to us on DVD? I don't know on that one, but I don know that on the 26 of dec, a lot of history nerds are gonna be heading to the cinemas lol.

No not at all, Philippa formed the Looking for Richard team and after several years of research along with Dr John Ashdown Hill who had always been researching the DNA, they got all the money together and employed Leicester University the archaeological department to dig. They wanted to dig a different part of the car park but Philippa and John insisted that they dig where the letter R was because that’s where the old maps showed that the choir of the church would be there. They were right! If they had started the dig where the University wanted to dig then Richard would not of been found!

I’m not sure of the exact titles, something like “King in the Carpark”, the story of the search, DNA evidence etc, and “Richard III, new evidence” where a young man with very similar scoliosis is fitted with armour and trained to fight like Richard.

And Phillips has co-written a book detailing the search.

Sally is a great actor. The casting would have ment she was the best one to play the character and I agree. She has both vulnerability and strength. The lookalike thing is of no importance.

There are only two significant portraits of Rlll, the famous 16C copy in the NPG and the most authentic, earlier one in the possession of the Society of Antiquaries, having the arched frame and evidently a companion piece to the portrait of Edward IV. There are also the doctored version of the NPG painting in the Royal Collection, and the derogatory propaganda Broken Sword picture. No portraits of Henry Vll are ever mislabelled as Rlll to my knowledge. Henry's features are extremely well known, from the terracotta bust to his moving death mask, and any Ricardian would be quick to rectify mis-identification.

@@rosemaryallen2128 You never heard of it, because that is my theory, based upon research i did few months back. I did write to NPG about it. They thanked me for sharing research with them, but they cannot reidentify those all portraits across world without further evidence. Especially given some portraits are thought to be first mentioned in inventory accounts of Henry VIII as Richard-yet it highly unlikely already by then somebody could mistaken Henry VII and Richard. Basically told me to keep digging. Strangely reconstruction of Richard III's scull is actually proving that he resembled Henry VII to surprising degree. But very few people actually compare them(their portraits) in detail. Imo both camps hate each other so much they don't look at the other guy closely. Myself i was suprised to realise all but two Richards(those in Society of antiquaries-with arched top and broken sword) could actually depict Henry instead. Because on first glance they don't look like him. The brows are the main issue, for they are very low, while Henry normally has high arched brows.(This explainable if form for portraits labelled as Richard has been made when the King was in mourning, deeply upset. ) Also sometimes artists did mistakes or their artistic skill was simply not very good. We assume such artist never painted royalty. Well, in Netherlands(back then known for its painters) Habsburgs were painted by master of Legend of Madgalene and Coninxloo-and both these artists painted proportions in 1490-1515 in such manner, that you cannot tell if it is kid or adult sometimes. Also, workshops' work can depict same person looking drastically different, because painters come and go and sometimes entire workshop is working one painting.

@@rosemaryallen2128 I would say one really has to understand the habits of painter's workshop to get grip on their work. Otherwise you end with lots of wrong assumptions. Yes version in RCT was altered, to raise up one shoulder. But there might be logical explanation other than propaganda against RIchard. That they moved it to fit the original sketches. That workshop operated from c.1500-1525. RCT's version is very likely posthumous(given when tree was felled) and would be created using original sketches done from life. Now, as of yet we don't have results on painting of prince Arthur in Hever Castle-if it is by Wewyck or not(they're testing it), but if it is, then it is earliest known surviving piece by Wewyck's workshop. And it has one shoulder up, even though no mention of Arthur being deformed. So it could ahve been style of that workshop in c.1500-1505. But later stages of workshop had different style, more accurate in proportions. Yet for those posthumous copies of Henry VIII's parenst they were using original sketches and it is possible they tried to stay true to them at price of realism. It is on his death effigy you can see the dent in cheek and in some portraits you can see the slightly lazy eye, and in rest of them wrinkles and white hair(though not in all of them, in some he has brown hair), those truly are Henry VII's features. So, since i found those in portraits of Richard III, i cannot just ignore it and say-oh it must be the propaganda. Because that is the lazy way out. Not searching for explanation, just because it would require weeks if not months of further research. So it is easier to say it is propaganda against Richard which made him ugly, grey-haired, wrinkled, gave him lazy eye etc... But more logical is misidentification. And Richard's fans will fight against it. They love those portraits. They love the idea of propaganda against Richard in portraits! So for them it is unfanthomable idea. And Henry VII's fans spend years looking at those portraits and disliking them, assuming it Richard. They will also be against reidentification. Both camps might hate me for even sugesting it.

@@maearcher4721 I watched conclusive proof that the NPG portrait is Richard lll - The reconstruction of his features from his skull matched against it exactly. The model worker was so amazed as she worked that she checked all her measurements again. You can't mistake that prominent chin! If you look at the 1501 portrait of Henry Vll, the chin is quite recessive.

@@rosemaryallen2128 Problem is those reconstructions can be as little as only 70% accurate. Thus it is still possible, given we talk about distant cousins. Broken sword portrait actually looks more like the facial reconstruction than rest of them.

I have something that will really piss you off: In real life, Harry Lloyd wasn't Rich the III. I know, I was shocked too!

But he atleast has the right looking hair..probably a wig..so why could SH not wear one..not hard is it.

@@denisehowes4785 You forget: This is a retelling movie, a fictionalised version of the truth. If you wanted an accurate doc, I assure you KZfaq has plenty. In real life, there was no apparition of Richard III. That should be your clue as to why the actors aren't mimicking the actual looks of their real-life counterparts. And I can assure you that this isn't the first film to do that. So, don't bitch about something like that when you know that this is a movie- based on real life events- and not a documentary.

I was surprised at first as I know Philippa and was disappointed- but she’s not bothered, all she was concerned about was getting her story told. The other actors in the film all pretty well resembled the real people.

What a ridiculous post. How childish. Philippa had spent years researching for where the Friary might be, years researching about Richard and anyone who is remotely interested would know that it was Shakespeare and his over the top play who said Richard lll had a malformed spine. No one in Richard’s lifetime knew about it. I’m not surprised she said “no!” and appeared emotional when the remains were exactly where she said they’d be - and he did have a twisted spine. If you had spent a lot of money and years of research you’d be emotional when it all came together. Obviously, Shakespeare only knew about his spine after killing him at Bosworth, stripping him of his armour and leaving him in the Newark for three days. Thank goodness the friars had the decency to bury him. The archaeologists never thought she’d find him and were quite sneery with her and laughed “ if you find king Richard I’ll eat my hat” … until he WAS found then they wanted all the glory and hijacked the project.

The reason she went a bit 'off' was because few people knew at that time scoliosis of the spine doesn't result in the same visible deformity of a hunched back. We know from his skeleton it was crooked but not to any impairment, nor hunched over (which the Tudors seemed to popularize). Had he not been exposed on the battlefield after death no-one save his perhaps some of his inner-most circle would have known about it. Indeed none of the visitors to his court mentioned it (as clothing can hide it easily).
