There's a FreeRealms revival project in the works. It's called FR Sunrise. The latest news about it was the early beta signups started in 2020. I think the signups are still open. It's being developed by a single guy, so it's going really slowly. I would link it, but youtube just decided to hate links recently. I remember putting a lot of hours into it.

@@bjiru_ There is one vitral world that you missed and it was a skylander’s MMORPG called Spyro’s Universe. It was really cool, it was kind of like U.B funkeys, but the skylanders came with codes and you’d have to use the codes to add that specific skylander in. Sadly it lasted only a year. My boyfriend and i used to play it as kids it was nice to see another person remember it so i was hoping to see it here for him and i. If you ever do an part two of this iceberg you should check it out.

At that time I was around 9-12 in age and had very limited knowledge in English, but it was still worth it. Around 2012 Cartoon Network would redirect visitors to their website to their nationality's Cartoon Network website, so that sucked a but IMO. Eventually it shut down. Wait it's not owned by net geo anymore? Also when he was mentioning this, I was hoping he'd mention the beta version of crystal sands called sandy shores or something like that. Apparently someone somehow was able to get ahold of it and then made their own server of it. (It's been years so my memory may be a little fuzzy) basically there was a big scare going around to never follow anyone to Crystal sands as you could end up in the beta version and get banned by ajhq. I was able to avoid mostly every kind of hack or band that's been going around except for the one around 2020-2021? Where basically the whole game was hacked and I lost my account due to it. I tried getting back into animal jam play wild but I quickly learned that I just miss the nostalgia now and not the game itself.

it really has became the juggernaut, even going up against the likes of PSO2 and wizard101, and its a shame because a lot of these virtual worlds deserve the same love but either companies wont allow it or no one cares enough.

We used to play moviestarplanet as kids here in Europe, and they have recently made a second game! I logged in a week ago or so, extremely anxious over the fact that its probably going to be INFESTED with kids, but to my suprise the game is filled with people over 18, wanting to relive their childhood and all the nostalgia! I'm happy I found back hahah

tbh the game: Sky Children of the Light really gives that same vibe as it is a community based game and lets u wonder the world to look for currency. it also has npcs that lets you buy cosmetics from them. its a pretty new game and available on many platforms

It's so sad as it was one of the few that was 100% made by the players, pretty sure a lot of game devs and programmers started out in whirled, tho tbf it was a copyright infringement haven so I can understand why it died so hard.

Whirled Club is a thing and seems to have a small playerbase. Won't be the same as back then, but it is there.

YES i was searching if anybody knew what whirled was it was an absolute gem, looking back on it i don't think there was any other virtual world out there that was entirely bolstered by usermade content. so much time wasted. so many memories! rare avatar trading, designing your own rooms, making fun of statics/kawaiis, animal roleplay groups, playing corpse craft, werewolf, scribble, etc. hanging out in Adopt Me! - LONKING, does anyone else remember lonking? god. take me back.

​@@pagedmaj iirc, the three rings ceo straight up said that it was an 'abject failure' from how little they got back from it, 5 million dollars was invested i honestly think it was too obscure to catch the ire of big companies, i always saw tons of nintendo avatars running around. biggest issue i imagine is that it was incredibly easy to rip avatars so you didn't have to pay bars. people were banned for it, but you could eventually get away with it scot-free as the players dwindled

truly! i had to scroll so far down to find any mention of whirled here. it was quite special. to this day, i've yet to encounter someone who has also heard of it. i lament its loss pretty frequently and would give anything just to explore my old rooms again.
