Oh yeah "oowah" that's how it always starts, but then later they're running and screaming. Because we're going to do plenty of that as we're not just talking about the first sequel to Jurassic Park. We're also responding to one of Werezilla's predecessors as an internet reviewer: The Nostalgia Critic. His review of The Lost World wasn't exactly a good one so let's see if we can set things straight here.

Actually, Robert Burke was based on Jack Horner's paleontologist rival Bob Bakker - who believed that T. rex was an active hunter, while Horner believed it to be a scavenger - and when Burke was killed by Doe Rex, Bakker said to Horner, "I told you the Rex was a predator."

Bakker is also a superior paleontologist, despite Horner's contributions.

@@yrooxrksvi7142 I've heard Horner be described as The Tiger King of Paleontology. Can't say I blame people for saying that given his chickenosaurus project.

@@Werezilla That's an apt comparison lol Sure, he discovered Maiasaura and proved hadrosaurs looked after their nests, and described several Ceratopsians. But the way he pushed for his ridiculous "Scavenger-only T.rex" theory is nothing short of laughable, or claiming Triceratops was a juvenile Torosaurus (despite their frills looking nothing alike and both being represented by adult specimens). Also, he had an affair with a young intern.

There was one deleted scene that should've been kept in the final edit of the film. David Koepp himself was heartbroken that the scene was cut. In said scene, Roland Tembo & Ajay Sidhu took Junior Rex from the Nest with Roland planning to use it as a lure for the Buck Rex (who he intended to hunt), but a drunk Peter Ludlow arrived and was to have an argument with Roland about his plan. Then something ran past Ludlow's leg, causing him to lose balance and broke Junior's leg, which upsets Roland. Had that scene been kept, the anger to Nick Van Owen would've most likely been placed at Ludlow. Had Ludlow not broke Junior's leg, Nick wouldn't have taken him to the Challenger Trailers; Eddie wouldn't have been eaten & killed; Sarah's jacket wouldn't be stained with blood and attracted the parents; and Nick wouldn't have taken the Nitro Express shells from Roland's Elephant Gun.

@@Werezilla There's also the deleted music cue: "Ludlow's End" (intended to be played in the scene where Ludlow gets injured by the Buck Rex and was Junior's first kill) that would've been perfect karma music for the character, but it was replaced with a repeat of "The Lost World Theme".

The book was quite good. I remember really enjoying it when it came out. It was different from Jurassic Park: while the original was really focused on the science of bringing back the dinos and the details of running a theme park alongside having an adventure, the sequel was more action oriented and survivalistic. There wasn't that much talk about DNA and cloning and stuff, and the intricacies of operating a commercial wildlife preserve was replaced with mysteries of running a secret lab on a secret island secretly running the backstage of the whole enterprise - along having an adventure, of course. I liked them both, read them through multiple times back in the 90s; I gotta admit I preferred the first book, but The Lost World was really entertaining. Not as much thought provoking, but still entertaining. The movie was an odd experience. I was 13 when it came out, and I already knew the book. It was one of my first cinematic "confusion" experiences. I mean, on one hand - I liked more dinos, I liked how it stayed close to many scenes; but on the other hand: I was a bit disappointed that it deviated so much with the ending. Surprisingly - I felt like I should have enjoyed the movie ending more, with all the city rampage scenes and all; but the book ending was more quiet and dark and I really liked it at that age. I remember thinking that the movie is really dark - visually, in contrast to the first one; JP happened mostly throughout the day, and TLW happens mostly at night. The day scenes were also kinda... greyish..? in my memory at least. It always felt like they had overcast weather in this movie, and that somewhat threw me off of this jungle adventure - reading the book I imagined it all happening in a much more green and sunny vistas. And so I left the cinema kinda convincing myself that I liked it more than I actually did. I was confused about seeing a Steven Spielberg multimillion blockbuster and... not really liking it that much..? It was weird, I was 13 years old and I should've been amazed by stuff like that, right..? It was the first ray of realization that some movies can suck even if they are advertised as something spectacular, and even if they are famous titles seen in a cinema, and not some B-grade VHS crap like "Mac and Me". Nowdays I simply think that the movie is "fine". It drags a bit at some points, I hate the daughter character, the part between the cold open and the arrival at the island always bores me - but overall I'm far from thinking it's "bad". I might rewatch it today, actually, just to see how does it hold up for me since the last time I've seen it... 5 years ago..? Thanks for this video inspiring me to do that :) ___________________________________________ Obligatory personal nostalgic confession: I was one of the dino-obsessed kids of the 90s. Jurassic Park in 1993 was my first "horror" movie - nowdays I perceive it as an adventure film, but back then when I was 9 years old it scared the crap out of me. I wasn't even "prepared" for it, my aunt took me to the cinema and only told me that "we're going to see a movie about dinosaurs, they used computer graphics to make them seem real and all people are talking about it" - so in my naivety I assumed it's going to be an epic documentary film, so epic in fact that it deserves to be shown in cinemas. My parents were rather strict with me and movies they allowed me to see: I haven't seen any R-rated movies at that point; they allowed me to read every single book that I got my hands on but they didn't allow me to watch any horror films. Like, I already read "The Shining" but even a mild movie like "Nightmare on Elm Street" that every other kid already saw was still outside my allowed limits. So imagine what I felt when the trailers for some '93 comedies ended and the first scene happened. I was TERRIFIED! For a moment I "hoped" that it's only another trailer, but to my horror Jurassic Park turned out to be no documentary at all! It might seem funny now, but at the time this was the scariest movie I've ever seen up to this point in my life. I cherished the experience. I had nightmares for weeks, but I went to the library to get the book the very next day. And I became OBSESSED with both Jurassic Park specifically and dinosaurs in general. I remember collecting sticker albums, the action figures, the comic book adaptations - anything JP-related I could put my hands on. I was disappointed for months that the Wolfenstein 3D-looking video game which I only saw in PC gaming magazines was out of my reach at the time. Oh, the soundtrack, of course, how could I forget the OST on casette? My friends listened to eurotrash dance crap popular at the time, while I was running around with John Williams score on my walkman. Then I expanded my interest and got my parents to get me all the dinosaur encyclopedias I could find in local bookstores. I was truly into it :D Remember that cheesy tv show about a family that got thrown back into the dino-world, "Land of the Lost"? I loved it :D Remember "Prehysteria"? I loved it :D Remember "Super Mario Bros" that had Yoshi portrayed as a dinosaur and all? Anything that had dinos in it I instantly loved, even if it was a movie adaptation of a game I truly hated (yes, I never liked Mario, crucify me!) :D The interest faded away after a few years but I cherish the memories of growing up in the 90s surrounded by dino-filled media...

I think I might have an explanation for the color palette. The first movie was filmed in Hawaii while the second was in California. One was a jungle and the other a forest, the former is definitely more colorful than the later.

@@Werezilla And here I was wondering if Spielberg wanted the second movie to be more grim by fiddling with the image in post, haha
