That's literally not true in the slightest. First off, while captain is a rank used by the Covenant, it is not one used by the Sangheili. Secondly, the role of a Sangheili ultra is NOT to command. While it is true that ultras can be placed in charge of Sangheili minors and majors if the need arises, they are most prominently a group comprised of Sangheili who specifically chose to focus on the warrior aspect of their service. In other words, Sangheili ultras are elites who chose not to command, but to instead be more efficient warriors, while the elites who chose to focus on command would become majors or even possibly attain the rank of Sangheili general.

Also, what do you mean by "standardized captains seen in previous games"? As, like I said, there are no Sangheili captains. Do you mean the gold zealots from CE and 2? Because if so, you're still incorrect as the zealots and the ultras are completely different ranks with different purposes within the Covenant.

See this makes sense until we go to infinite where we have both captains and ultras, and also generals and minors lol. Spec ops and zealot are the same iirc

You have to remember that over the 1,000 years of serving in the Covenant, the Sangheili largely lost their way in terms of honor, discipline, and respect. The generations of male Sangheili who were raised, trained, and thrown into the Covenant were brainwashed into believing that the only thing that mattered was their status in the power hierarchy, and the Great Journey. Being that the Sangheili were the majority of the Covenant army's might, they typically thought themselves above their competition, namely the Brutes. This is because there were only 2 species allowed on the Council; the San Shyuum and the Sangheili (as far as I'm aware anyway) since the two formed the alliance initially. Not all Sangheili were this naive and ignorant though, many within the ranks questioned the needless slaughter of humanity. Humanity proving their tenacity and ability to adapt to the Covenant advances had many warriors silently questioning if their eradication was truly warranted by their Gods, as any species that could fend off the Covenant for as long as they did, would truly be nothing short of an asset to their journey.

@v9tadpole2.02 The arbiter wasn't always a penance role. It used to be of much higher stature until one specific arbiter pretty much said that the Great Journey was a lie. The armor is old, yes, though I'm fairly certain the Arbiter armor is 'tailor made' so to speak for specific arbiters. Ripa Moramee's armor, for example. He was massive, and tossed over an edge on a shield world where nobody could have recovered the armor. So, well, I'd assume the armor was purposefully made shitty in those functions after the thing, buuut yeah. Fair enough I guess lmao

@@dj11o9er I know it always wasn't a penace role, and yeah every new arbiter gets new armor since they get sent on suicide missions like the thel vadaam, getting very little back up to waste through the unsc and the flood, and if every arbiter gets/got sent on missions like the like they usually were, the armors unrecoverable

@@Suplexcity69 Well of course I love Arby's armor, I just meant out of the typical elite designs I just love the minors' design because it looks cool to me.

I mean, most elites in the Covenant use the exact same armor just with different colors to distinguish their rank. It was really only Reach and the games that followed it that started to give the elites very different armor to distinguish their ranks in addition to the color coding.

Elite Officers and Ultras in Halo Reach was actually the equivalent to those ranks haha. They just sorta became the soft name change/style upgrade that Bungie went with.

Real reason : halo wars 1 has a different art style then the rest of the game Lore reason: Yes marines do get different outfits depending on where and what they are doing , in halo CE we see marines going into a swamp with short sleeve and in the halo wars cute scene showed in the video the marines are on an ice world so they are wearing cold weather gear , and halo wars is the 1st game chronologically so they have the oldest equipment (besides maybe the UNSC Army we see in reach)

Different sets of armor created at different times used on different planets is pretty much the lore explanation. You've got the Insurrection era BDU (Halo Wars and H2A), the M25B BDU (Halo 3), the Cross-branch BDU (Reach, CEA, and Infinite), and various other Marine BDUs.

Dude the ranks in infinite are so powerful. Even just the majors take more than a full clip to take out the shields and the ultras are like demigods

I personally prefer the Gheocin-pattern combat harness (H2A) to both the Od'wagra-pattern (Reach) and Halo 3 comabt harnesses myself, but I can definitely see why people like the ones from 3

Honestly I'm surprised so many have said this haha. The Elite Ultra was just the soft name change of the elite captains. And fall into the same ranking system. Same with Officers being majors! Same rank just different names more than anything
