Love this. I do feel that when I do 80-20 on short game to iron practice that my irons can get a little loose but I feel like the shortgame stuff you do sticks and you never really lose it. You just have to tune it up. This advice is huge because im a competitive player myself and one day i just said im hitting enough fairways and greens but my up/downs and consolidation of putts was average at best and didnt feel happy as a golfer, felt like a hack shooting low-mid 70s not making much money in amateur events. Once i dedicated listening to bob Rotella and developing a fun and solid short game practice routine from 100 yards and in, I noticed a drastic change in scores. People think practicing short game stuff is gonna take off a stroke but Its the opposite. It can take off many. Think of how many mistakes you might make playing an average shortgame on 18 holes and now look at it with a masterful shortgame. You might be saving 3 to upwards of 10 strokes just from developing a great short game and thats what led me to my first 68 with still way more potential and open opportunities. Great advice though for ant golfer looking for a solid protocol

While true with Snedeker and the club pro, it was more probably Sned's long game became incredible than his short game carrying him to the PGA. On average the long game is about 70% the difference when comparing amateurs vs tour pros. 0 handicap = 3.8 worse long game, 1.3 worse short game 5 handicap = 7.6 worse long game, 2.4 worse short game 10 handicap = 9.7 worse long game, 4.1 worse short game 15 handicap = 13.4 worse long game, 7.6 worse short game 20 handicap = 17.0 worse long game, 8.5 worse short game 25 handicap = 21.8 worse long game, 10.1 worse short game practical-golf.com/pros-vs-joes/

@@ksuno1stunner It was definitely not Snedeker’s long game that carried him to the tour. He’d be the first to tell you that too. There’s not much of a difference with the long game between pros on the Web.com Tour and PGA Tour. Most hit it a long way. Most hit it pretty straight. Put them on the range together, can’t really tell them apart. Putting separates the winners from the losers. It’s a well known fact amongst Tour pros. Ask them. I mean just look at this video as a great example. George hits it better than Will, but he gets completely obliterated because Will had a hot putter. Also, your numbers compare the average golfer to pros. I’m referencing the difference between winning pros and average pros here. Not Joe Weekend-Round vs. PGA Tour player.

Here are the differences in strokes gained from best to worst pro: Tee = +1.1, -1.3 Approach = +1.5, -1.6 Around Green = +0.6, -0.8 Putting = +1.0, -1.5 While putting is about the same as tee shots, approach is far more important than around the green. Actually in other years tee shots are more important than putting, just apparently Kevin Stadler is having a super horrendous year putting.

@@ksuno1stunner Look at the past 10-15 years of the best putts per GIR. It’s a Who’s Who of the best players in the world. But we can battle numbers all day. The bottom line is, talk to the guys on Tour. Hear it from the source. They’ll be the first to tell you, putting separates the consistent winners and clutch players from the middle tier and lower tier guys. I could name names of guys on Tour that told me this, but I’m not here to name drop. Again, just watch this round with George and Will. Proof is in the pudding. Edit: I meant to throw in short game overall in my initial comment, essentially the game from 120 yards and in. But I had a brain 🧠 leak and just stuck with putting. Another great example - As a junior golfer, I played in a Maxfly qualifier. I hit all 18 greens, shot 73. My playing partner hit 9 greens, shot 67. The flat stick separates the big money makers from the mid and low tier guys. Virtually every big year Spieth has had, he was top 10 in putts per GIR. Dustin Johnson, Rory, Justin Thomas, Webb, Mickelson and Snedeker are other guys that occupied #1 spots on that list.

@@Jeremy_the_bot True these courses they play look fairly short but you can’t deny his putting is tour level.

@@Jeremy_the_bot I dont see how he couldnt. He drives the ball upwards of 300 which is better than tour average and from what it looks like his irons are hotter than ever from practicing more as you can tell from his results. Wesley plays here and alot of the time he doesnt even post 63s. Obviously he could and im not trying to compare but what im saying is that its totally doable for him. Bubba watson just played a 6200 yard course and shot a 63 and i think this course is playing 6500 yards. Anyone that can shoot sub 65 from 6500+ yards should definitly do some thinking about if I should pursue this fully. He totally has the swing but obviously playing pro golf just like any pro sport, its what goes on in between the ears and being able to thrive under pressure and to love it and not crumble. Some people are made for it, others just cant handle it. Just my view
