Watching the old reruns of the Lucy show always makes me think of my grandmother. She loved Lucy and Vivian. My grandmother passed away in 2018. My grandparents pretty much raised me. But it’s always great to watch the shows always feel like my grandmother is with me.. ❤️❤️❤️

The irony of it was I think the two ladies didn’t get along very well. Lucy was jealous of Viv, and made her wear fuddy duddy clothes especially during the I love Lucy series. But I love this show and watched with my grandparents in the 1960’s starting with the original series with Ricky (Desi)

No jealousy. Lucy didn't want anyone but Vivian as her co-star. And as for Vivian's wardrobe on I Love Lucy, she was playing the part of Fred Mertz's wife. It would have been ridiculous for her to be in that role wearing glamorous clothes. Besides, Vivian knew when she signed on that she was taking on the role if a middle-aged wife opposite William Frawley.

@@meemawdragon9964 That is NOT TRUE! Vivian's sister said that after she started working with Viv, Lucy came to adore her. I just watched the video myself this morning! Lucie Arnaz said her mom cried for months when Vivian died. Lucy never wanted to work with any other woman. She said that she wanted Gale Gordon (who was in The Lucy Show & Here's Lucy) in her last show & that of course she would want Vivian if she was still here. Look up the Gary Collins interview of her with Gale Gordon where Collins asks her about Vivian. And that was 7 years after her death & she STILL had difficulty talking about Viv being gone. Watch the episode of Password where they surprise Lucy by having Vivian Vance on as her partner. Watch Vivian surprise Lucy again many years later on the Dinah Shore Show & listen to her story of them hanging out at Lucy's home. You don't hang out with people you don't like and you don't ask them to WORK with you on another show!! Look up the interview in which Lucie Arnaz talks about Vivian. Read some of Lucille's quotations about losing Viv. You need to stop believing everything you hear & you def need to STOP REPEATING THINGS people say as if it's fact. They were the best of friends. Lucy had a problem with Viv when she was first cast b/c she had someone else in mind who was older & they had already hired William Frawley, who was 22 years older than Vivian. Ethel was SUPPOSED to be frumpy. When Lucy asked her to do The Lucy Show, Viv said she wanted to use her own name, be able to dress better & use better makeup than Ethel & LUCY GAVE HER THOSE THINGS. Viv looked great on The Lucy Show! I trust Lucie Arnaz & Viv's sister more than I trust some randos on the internet repeating something they read in another comment or some article from a newspaper that can't even get Vance's age when she died right! Stop slandering people! Lucy & Viv loved each other until the day they died.

@@breckrichardson390 Frawley was beyond middle aged! He was 64! He was 22 years older than Viv. No wonder she didn't like having to downplay her good looks. She was really attractive but had to play a frumpy older woman. In subsequent shows, like The Lucy Show, Lucy didn't want anyone BUT Vivian as her co-star, as you have said.

Please don't call Vivian, "Ethel." She hated being saddled w/ Ethel her whole life. She insisted on using the name VIVIAN on The Lucy Show. It's Lucy Carmichael & Vivian Bagley. Ethel never existed in the world in which they live. Neither did the Ricardos. This show stands alone & has nothing to do with I Love Lucy.

Lol I love the Trout Almondine scene. I bet Miss Ball spent quite a bit of time trying to get that bit timed perfectly! The setting up of the table and the pouring of the ice from the boot, and the champagne, and the bowl of salad hidden in the lamp 🤣 I also wish we found out how Lucy and Viv got unstuck from the wall. Probably bottles of acetone or nail polish remover!

@@m.e.d.7997 I do. She was commuting each week from the east coast to Los Angeles to do the show. She had recently married and wanted to be home more. So she guested about once each season. I believe she did the same for the subsequent Here's Lucy (as Vivian Jones).

Like you, I was wondering this morning why they couldn't move to SoCal where he could travel back & forth when needed. After all, Vivian HAD to be present for her job, but he could do business on the phone, by postal mail, & people could come to HIM for meetings.

First of all I love ♥️all the Lucy shows starting with I Love ♥️Lucy The Lucy Show and Here's Lucy,& the movie Meme which I also loved in which she got horrible reviews that got to her too because she had said that she's never going to make another movie she felt like every body had abandoned she felt nobody wanted her & the fans that she had wasn't supporting her and talking about bad reviews the last sitcoms she meade which aird13 episodes and after that she got canceled and she also got horrible reviews and people the telling her that she should quit she's too old and that's horrible poor woman she didn't come out for 3 years till Bob Hope insisted she go with h.im to the Oscars she said she didn't want to go but Bob Hope kept on asking her finally she did I'm glad she did because that was her last public appearance when they came out or I should say she came out & every body gave her a standing ovation That lasted like 5 minutes she was in tears but after that, one month after we lost her and that was that.🎭♥️🕯R.I.P my 👸 queen

Even though Lucy and Vivian did fight I really think they did love each other very much. And you can see after Vivian passed away that Lucy took that hard. And Lucy Continue to work in until she passed away. It must’ve been hard to watch everyone around you pass away. Lucy shows were always amazing but they just wasn’t the same without Vivian..

i dont know her guest list was pretty impressive.....John Wayne, Mary Jane Croft Ann Sothern, Gale Gordon...Bob Crane, Joan Blondell, Carol Burnett, just to name a few and Viv came back a few times and once in an episode with Joan Crawford!!!! Now that was a great episode!!! Great great show!! But I do love seasons 1, 2 and three, with Viv; the best.. try Lucy gets trapped or The substitute secretary, good stuff!!

It's VIVIAN, not "Ethe." Ethel doesn't exist in this show & has NEVER existed on this show. Lucy Ricardo also NEVER existed on this show. The characters were Lucy Carmichael & Vivian Bagley.

Love the scenes blocking, and comic and timing pacing here. Very much the feeling of a more modern old “ILL” episode. Yes, probably helped by Desi still being producer through this show’s first mid-season, after he left and Lucille bought him out as Desilu head. They were divorced for 2 years by now, and Lucille was remarried by then to Gary Morton who was doing the show filming nights’ pre-audience comic warmup routines. That must’ve been all really weird between all of them. The “ILL” format just wouldn’t have worked anymore under these circumstances. Plus Lucille and Desi were divorcing, not speaking, and not getting great ratings anymore by their last hourlong special as the Ricardos alongside the Mertzes with guest stars Ernie and Edie Kovacks back in March 1960. I, too, like this episode’s actual black and white filming. Seasons 2 and 3 were also originally shown in B&W, but filmed in color, but CBS didn’t have a general all-shows color policy till 1965, so Seasons 2 and 3 were in color only later in syndication, and Season 1 only also in if artificially colorized later. 🤗❤️👍
