Between the Horizons Unlimited Travellers Meeting and my reunion in Ontario, I have 2 weeks to find a place to stay before I have to get on the road. Barachois Pond Provincial Park is my goto and that's where I plunk the mini Mate down. The Newfoundland Provincial Parks senior rate is great and even more so for a week at a time. This also keeps me close to Corner Brook and my storage unit. I'm still sorting a few things out and I have maintanence I need to do and some I'm not even aware of. I do get a chance to relax in camp and cook. Getting recharged for the next and biggest part of this summer's touring.

The tent trailer has upped my camping game but it really was my home for 3 1/2 months last year and plan to do at least the same this coming year. Thanks for finding the channel.

It was a literal pain and tedious getting the repair done... but it lasted me through the rest of the trip. It may be one of those temporary repairs that doesn't get "fixed" for another year lol.

Always enjoyed your "realness" man can I relate to you. The best parts are the "bloopers", dropping the pork chop in the embers and nearly knocking the salad on the floor. I also ride a ST1300, 2013 circa, last year they made them for Canada, love the bike. Today will be my first ride of the season. I also "enjoyed" replacing a headlight bulb in the off season. Not a big deal you say, I beg to differ, probably one of the most frustrating jobs I've ever done on the bike.

I think one of the problems is that we replace them so seldom. Of course being buried does not help. The repair was a real pain... coming up soon. I've got big hands but thanks goodness I have long fingers. If it gets filmed... it usually goes in a video no matter how embarassing it could be. Thanks for coming along.

Electrical issues, especially a burned out socket can really suck the feelings out of a good day or trip. Looking forward to the repair video.

Luckily I am carrying just the right amount of repair gear... and there's always Canadian Tire for parts even if they are not OEM.

Hello from snowy northern Ontario. Seem we catch you eating more than riding in this one. 😅 dropping the porkchop into the fire is nothing like I did last summer onto the sand. Beating it was better tasting than sand. 😊 I had a headlight burn up this summer and had to dig through the dash to change it. I am trying a led replacement from Amazon. Hope it lasts longer. It is brighter which is a win. Cheers

It was a great 2 week lull, mostly in camp and a lot of eating. I'm just starting to edit the mainland portion and there will be very few days off.on the next 7 week stretch. I'm using higher wattage than stock bulbs but have not gone to LED yet. Snow is disappearing here in Newfoundland but I know winter is not done with us yet. Worked 6 years in Thunder Bay. I can still remember the cold.

I was finding it too difficult to get dressed on my knees and a pain to just roll off a ground level air mattress and get up. Took all the joy out of my camping. I am frugal and actually love cooking camp meals. The pack on the back of the bike was getting too high and too wide... and no chance for a passenger. With retiring, I can now plan 2-3-4 month trips and like my comfort. Trailers and tent trailers aren't for everyone, but for me, it's been a good move.

At least you didn’t drop meat in the dirt (I have) I love my old 1500 gold wing but it is hard to access for repairs . The old joke it takes 45 min to remove covers 10 min to repair then 45 min to reinstall covers ,at least you can reach light though you may leave some skin behind . As always keep um coming

Thank you for the shots and of course the editing (which I'm still working on lol). You have done yourself justice in this one, thank you sir. www.youtube.com/@OlderShadowRider My favorite food for lunch/supper to eat is picking up a bag of mixed greens and topping it off with Tuna or Salmon..

I will take a look at some of your videos... not the biggest fan of canned fish, but will use canned turkey or chicken similarily to what you described or will make a traditional sandwich although you can't keep mayo on the road for long.

This is Barber Motorcycle Museum near Birmingham. Stunning building, motorcycles from around the world from really old to fairly recent. I think they have 1,000 bikes on display. And a RACETRACK! Saw examples of 5 of the 6 bikes I have owned. They have an ST1300 in the collection but was not in the display rotation. Wheels Through Time in the Maggie Valley is great... did it a few years ago and it id devoted to North American i.e. US produced bikes through the ages. Great place with a more homey feel.

Hello Friend: How much total weight with the trailer, and what you carry in the trailer? How often do you check, and or change the wheel bearings on the trailer?
@OldGuyonaBike
@OldGuyonaBike Жыл бұрын
By weighing individual pieces I am guesstimating that the trailer comes in around 450 with a full cooler. I intend on doing an actual weigh in this year. I will put my hand on the hubs only if I have had a long run (i.e. all day) on mostly interstates at 130 kph/80 mph. Have yet to get a hot hub. I usually take bearings out for inspection and a repack every spring. I did change them last year with 24,000 km on the set and I have put that on those replacements. I carry a spare set all the time. The bearing kit including bearing, seal, grease and new cap have only been costing me around $22 Cdn. so even if I change them each spring, it's no big deal.

Basic bannock: 1 cup whole wheat or general purpose flour 3 tbsp of powdered milk 1 tsp of baking powder enough water to make it a "dry" dough - I have substitured milk for water at home with no powdered milk fry at low heat with lots of bacon fat... you want it to cook through but be golden on the outside. I usually start any long trip with at least 4 premade baggies of dry ingrediants and have it once a week.

@@OldGuyonaBike forgot to add the cinnamon (my guess 1/2 t. & raisins 1/4 C)

@@OlderShadowRider I don't use measures too much for those... a dose of cinnamon and a handful of raisens. I have substitued dried cranberries or blueberries (usually without the cinnamon) and I have done a lunch variation, small chunks of old smoked chedder with snall chunks of ham. Have been wanting to do one with japeno peppers too. Lots of ways to use the basic bannock mix.

I started watching you videos because I wanted to see some one my age traveling by bike . As it turns out your videos are mostly cooking shows and that is boring,
@OldGuyonaBike
@OldGuyonaBike Жыл бұрын
Oh, I suspect 1 out of 10 videos might have more cooking... it depends on where I am in my travelling. I do try to mention cooking in the titles to warn people so they can skip those ones. It's funny, I have other subscribers who want to see more in camp time and more cooking. I kinda think of my channel as "a day in the life of an Old Guy". I could be riding. Could be cooking. Could be staring at a fire.
