The LWRC M6 series by Nutnfancy

Long term test complete and the LWRC M6 proves its excellence in TNP. With over 800 rounds fired, it didn't jam once, even with Wolf steel cased ammo. It is the first piston driven AR I've seen feed that steel ammo reliably. Attribute this level of reliability and durability to a perfected piston and bolt carrier system in the M6. Nickle Boron coatings, a self-scraping piston cup, improved piston return springs, and now a single piece bolt carrier group reside within these LWRC guns. Fit and finish is superb throughout and this now-collectible anodized Multi-regional Earth version is especially stunning. Nowadays if you want a coloration on your M6 it means a $150 up charge for the factory-applied CeraKoting. The mid-profile barrel is perfection. Its thickness is an ideal compromise for sustained fire and accuracy for extended engagements. It is Nicor coated inside and out, an improvement over chrome plating in the bore due to its thinness and consistency. This coating has passed extensive salt spray testing. Accuracy with regular ball ammo was disappointing even in careful fully resting shooting (however in RunNGun ie practical shooting it was excellent). With this example I achieved 2 to 3 MOA with American Eagle, PMC, and XM193/M855 loads. By contrast I see several high value DI AR-15s achieving sub MOA with the same ammo. With high quality and heavier ammo, it achieves sub MOA groups (impressive actually, shown). Strangely the 1/7 twist out the M6A2 5.56mm NATO barrel threw the 55 gr Noslers extremely accurately as well. The weight, at around 7.4 lbs is light for a piston AR-15 these days. The rail is too wide on this version and their new REPR style of rail, featured on the M6A2 SPR version, would be a huge ergonomic improvement. Fully equipped with Troy-produced (or in house "Skirmish") sights and decent grips and stock, the M6s come "RTR." You shouldn't have to add in anything to this combat and LE proven tactical carbine. Granted I put in a Timney 4lb trigger to see if bigger improvements could be made in accuracy (they weren't). This included trigger now breaks lighter due to high tech coatings; expect around a 5.5 lb crisp pull. Value is moderate at around $2000 and the track record is outstanding both in TNP and real world combat engagements. Several serious military and LE customers choose the LWRC M6 series above all others. ///////////////////////////////Nutnfancy Likability Scale: 8.5 out of 10/////////////////////Music Licensed to TNP from Jason Shaw

LOVE it. I have had a crush on this rifle since I first heard about it a couple years ago and saw it in TNP. I did my own research via articles and what I found online and am so glad to hear it matches up with your data points. I was considering buying an Arsenal AK and a DI AR-15, but I might instead the the equivalent with the M6 being at that price point. Thank you so much for the extensive research and great review!

Thanks for the comprehensive review and chat up of this gun. I just ordered my first AR and went with the LWRC M6A3 in OD Green with the 18" DMR package. From my research, much of your discussion is directly applicable to the breakdown and internals with the exception of the newer bolt design; brl length, adj gas system and a 2 stage trigger. Your comments are well stated and appreciated.

Excellent!!! I have been waiting for this review for a very long time. I am a long time user and huge proponent of all things LWRC. My one comparable weapon ( the same minus the MRE finish has been my baby since 09. Was turned on to them by my college room mate, now with the teams, who uses these in the field. I am glad you mentioned weight. While not a heavy gun, while firing for extended periods, you definitely start to notice that most of the weight is out in front. It can get a bit

I'm all about piston guns!!! From my first build to my most recent, all piston! All my AR-15s are custom built piece by piece by yours truly and come in WAAAAY under cost of this LWRC. I've been shooting my "M4" for about 2 years now with a chrome lined fluted 1in 7 twist barrel I bought from green mountain and I've shot everything from 55 gr steel wolf to custom loads of heavier brass all with the same 1 mao-ish result. The piston system is by adams arms and I must say nothing but great things

A lot of the issues mentioned with this great AR have been addressed by POF. They have a single piece bolt carrier, single piece rail that improves the rigidity of ARs without a carry handle, thus preventing added parts to the piston. Shoots all sort of steel ammo, and shoots sub two inch groups with the cheapest 55 gr steel ammo all the way up to 75 gr. The only issue I have had was with Tulammo 75 gr. Just wouldn't stabilize the round. By the way my rifle is 18 in with a 1.8 twist, and the last I checked one of their test rifles is up to 60,000 rounds without major issues.

Proud owner of a M6A3- purchased summer of 2010- no FTF, running a 16" plus barrel. Found 62 grain works well out of it. As well for some reason it really likes the 55gr Herters Russian steel. which is cool that that crap is cheap. Great review- solid and honest.

My M&P 15, which has a 4140 CL barrel/chamber and an Adams Arms regular (not light) piston system, carbine length piston system on it, also runs steel cased Ammo just fine. It was really banging the back of the buffer tube with the standard carbine buffer so I got the heaviest buffer and it shoots a lot lighter recoil wise.

Hey. I have an LWRC Tricon mk6. I absolutely love the rifle. Got it a couple of months ago and put just over 3000 rounds through it. Mostly 55 grain XM193 and 62 grain M855. No one failure. Super reliable and consistant. The one piece BCG is great and I've experienced no carrier tilt. I will say I have not experienced the same as you in regards to accuracy. At 100 yards I'm hitting 2 MOA using am Aimpoint PRO and no magnification and I do not have 1/8 of the experience shooting you have. Either way, I loved the review. Oh, you may know this by now but Tricon is a company, Trident Concepts, that was started by Jeff Gonzales who is a former Navy Seal. Apperently he still has the rifle that he did his tests with and still uses it with his student during his training classes and had over 38,000 rounds through the same barrel and he's claimed that he can still 1 MOA with it. Either way, the rifle are expensive but are worth every penny.

Tom Paul The Samson Evo/ Rainier Arms by Samson fit without any modification. I have had a few issues however. If you use a bipod, tripod clamp, or in some way use a surface lto brace the handguard, the cycling of the weapon can cause the handguard to slide off the collar that wraps around the barrel nut. there are a few vids and pics of people making the Fortis REV III fit on an M6 but it requires a little dremeling/ sanding/ filing. It would be a more solid option because of how it mounts to the barrel nut, keeping it from riding forward. Paul Leitner-Wise (Formally part of Leitner-Wise Rifle Co.(LWRC)) has just unveiled a MkVI rail that will fit the M6 and is, as far as I know, the smallest handgaurd to date that will work with the LWRC piston system. Hope this helps.

Z. Lewis, Actually it does. I bought the Midwest Industries mctar 21g2 2 piece free float and it fits fine. I haven't had a chance to get on the range yet however so I haven't tested how well it operates yet. Might have to sand a bit down actually, but it mounts to the standard barrel nut like the fortis rails. Have you heard anything about the MI rails by chance?
@Z_1984
@Z_1984 9 жыл бұрын
Tom Paul No, I haven't but to be honest I haven't really been looking at MI. I scouted around LWRCI and AR15.com forums to find my info. I'm sure the MI rail will serve you well. I have been working to make my M6 Lighter. Definitely check out Leitner-Wise though, he is starting to do some cool stuff with the M6. I follow him on Instagram and he posts pics of stuff he is working on. His new E sights are pretty slick.

Just a hint, the coloration between twist rate and bullet weight is is actually contingent to the length of the bullet which is dictated by the weight of the bullet but the ballistics explanation are the connection between the length and twist rate. But off hand it is relatively correct to reference the expected accuracy performance from the bullet weight and twist rate stability. Just thought id put this out there, it may help people understand a little better on why those things are related.
