The M3 Pro MacBook Pro was announced back in October, and released in November of last year. Its main new features what the slight performance and efficiency bump of the M3 chip, as well as a new Space Black colour.
I've been using it for about 3 months now, so how is it in daily life for me?

Changed the title to say film student, probably should’ve done that to begin with. Thanks for those in the comments who pointed that out. Also day after I posted this Apple announced the M3 Airs so there goes my comment at the end about waiting for the supposed March event lol.

Hey, I’m a multimedia arts student and I got this for video editing work as well! I love it so far. I plan to use it for at least six years like my last Mac so I think it’s a worthy investment.

I think you should change the title of this video to something like "(Film) student perspective". It will immediately give people an idea of when a Pro is actually viable. This is a lot different than a student that just happens to use an uber expensive laptop for basic essay typing.

I work in the enterprise space and X86 Intel is very important for me. As such, my 2017 MacBook Pro w/BootCamp is key. The Silicon Macs are great for youtubers and bloggers and film guys like yourself. I still don't like how the M1 chips swap to SSD. That has an impact of the lifetime of the SSD.

Intel Macs also use swap memory, as do Linux and Windows machines.

Okay, so as a student, I am confused if to get the MacBook Air or MacBook Pro M3 pro , not the base M3 as after RAM upgrade it prices almost same as the M3 pro, and most importantly, I need this laptop for next 7 to 8 years and with absolute power and future proof.

A Macbook Air with a 16GB RAM upgrade will last 7-8 years easily. So if longevity is the most important this will be perfectly fine. If you think you need more performance over a longer period of time (like rendering a big project or playing a demanding game) then it's worth considering the Pro model due to having a proper cooling system and a more powerful chip.

@@MrDucklangTechbut like yea, as a laptop for 7 years, heavy tasks can be expected with bigger softwares in the future.... So is MBA good choice enough or MacBook Pro is better for all rounder and future proof ??

⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠@@novellad8485A new MBA with 16GB of RAM should still be a perfectly fine 7-8 years down the line. Looking at the M1 MacBook Air, it’s approaching 3 & 1/2 years old, and is still considered an amazing laptop. It’s super fast on newer versions of software and apps, even having decent performance on the more demanding side of things, and shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon. So it’s safe to say an M3 MBA will stand the test of time just as well if not better than the M1 MBA has.

Why does a student need a m3 MacBook Pro? Save you cash and get a m1 air….will be fine for majority. For a film student, maybe worth it…. But only if you have to have the fastest laptop available. How do students even afford them?

someone should do an actual cost analysis of what a macbook pro actually costs a student at the end of their student debt journey

they go in debt with a student loan and get the most expensive computer available at the store without any second thinking or research lol most students would have more than enough with an ipad + keyboard case

From a long term perspective, I’m not sure it makes a big difference. M1 Air would be cheaper now, but hit end of useful life sooner. M3 Pro costs more now, but will have a longer useful life span. The cost per day is probably similar, with the user experience likely favouring the Pro.

Watch the video and you would find out he is a film-student. Your comment is totally obsolete because he even said that for normal students an MacBook Air would suffice.
