Arm has just traditionally been in the lower TDP ranges, but you can sure as hell bring a RISC core high wattage, perhaps even moreso than x86. Maybe in the future, but not right now. RISC has it's uses... I am not a fan boi of either... but facts be facts. RISC is great for high efficiency and low demands. But when you need to process complex instructions... RISC just can't do the job as well. Each has their pro's and con's and neither are a good replacement for the other. Same as for Beelink, these mini-PC are fantastic. But they need to start putting USB-C ports on the rear for video output and accepting the PD. This way, one can use the one cable from a monitor, avoiding the power brick, and avoiding having a cable always on the front.

I was recently emailing them about the pd ports as I'd like to be able to take it in my campervan without running an inverter and asked why they're on the front, the CS rep said it's because they imagine most of the time it will be mounted behind the monitor or in a cabinet and therefore they don't see visual design as a big issue 🤷‍♂️ I get where they're coming from especially given the size constraints they're under as well

I knew I wanted one when AMD announced this chip as the M-chip killer. For gaming, it has a 5 teraflop performance. You would have to buy an M2-pro model at $1300 to do just a little bit better. I could be looking at a $600 mini-PC that has more than twice the power, four times the memory and storage than the base model M2 Mac Mini. Rumour mill is they have something like that coming out next year. Speculation : I imagine they probably had a deal with Sony and Microsoft to not release powerful APU that would compete with the new consoles for X amount of years. I've heard around the 40 compute unit mark so 3.5x more performance than the integrated graphics in 7940 ( GFLOPS anyway actual gaming performance would be less) I think that would put it in rtx 2070 territory which would be amazing for integrated.

They simply took the UM standard case, took away the SATA drive mount in the lid and had a fan installed there. With the hangs on the UM690 in many cases traced to the NVMe SSD overheating, this makes alot of sense. (especially with 2 SSD's now) I would prefer to see a R9 7945HX in this form factor, but it appears that is going to go into a mini-ITX style board. At least this is what they showed at Computex. I don't care about the GPU so much as I use it for Proxmox work, but if the mini-ITX does get released, you can put a dual 40GbE or Quad 10Gbe card in that 16x PCIe slot and scream.

I understand the love for shallow depth of field. People really don't need to shoot all of their videos to max aperture their lens can do. Another case of just because you can, you shouldn't. None of the details, frames where the internals of board or screen values are clear. Dailing down the aperture won't harm and not all of your video shouldn't be on the same setting.

Why did Minisforum not bring a power brick or monitor to the show?! They get the interns to run the booth or something?

obtaining enough gaming power in a teency box is less of a problem now than getting tons of storage in the same form factor without taking out a second mortgage..

The best part is the two HDMI 2.1 ports. My UM690 is already too powerful for my applications, but I struggle to connect two 4K screens with HDMI 2.0. I have to reduce to 8Bit and even there it doesn't always work. DP would be great, of course, or the USB 4 ports in the back.

8:52 Fair enough, an i7-12700K score is 29633, but the i7-13700K is 47047. I mean, it's a little faster than last gen's i7. Meanwhilte the i9-13900k reaches 60035 and this is twice as slow if we compare it like that.

if you are looking at it as a streaming PC , just use NDI HX if supported, you will solve the vsync issues along the way and have a tear free stream even if you don't play with vsync on the gaming pc.

Im daily driving an UM350 with a Ryzen 5, 32gb RAM, and Vega 8 graphics; I really, really recommend them!! Edit: Im playing Overwatch 2 with zero issues, WoW on a solid resolution, and Star Craft 2 with zero problems even during heavy multi-army engagements.

I don't know if it kills the M2 Mac Mini Pro, but it costs less and has a better iGPU. You can game and 4k video edit at home on it. Also, the RAM and SSD are adjustable.

I'd be even more excited for a Dragon Range mini-PC model with the full 16-core (if it can be paired with a GPU, desktop or laptop). Given that those laptops have had very poor battery life it seems great to be able to get the 12900K-level performance out of a much smaller (and cheaper) form factor.

Nothing can beat the Mac mini. This thing uses more power and throws out more heat than the M2, and that model technically has a better gpu since it’s the 10 core one.
