Applause!!! It is wonderful to see a series of videos that promote and teach the proper ways of horse care. Many subscribers, I would believe, do not have proper information. This was excellent - I was originally taught by the Cheska’s back in the 80’s when I groomed for them briefly. Excellent refresher course. This series is excellent! It’s a Friday night in UT and Im watching Madden videos in an outdoor jacuzzi dreaming about horses!

Great video on leg wrapping for standing wraps, the way I remember which legs get wrapped which direction is offside or left side of the horse is clockwise and the onside or right side of the horses legs get wrapped counterclockwise. Love the diagram you drew it really would help the novice person with direction and proper application of the wraps. 🙂🐴

Excellent presentation. FYI if you dont already know. There has been a recent scandal w/ j & j baby powder having some kind of poisonous substance added to it. Might want to consider using another brand.

I think the threat with it was that woman were using it for feminine hygiene purposes I would assume still safe for equine purposes

Some talc naturally contains asbestos. Don't want to breathe it in.

How do you deal with a horse who chews their wraps off?

I don't understand why I am the only Hunter/Jumper Trainer(retired) that thinks wrapping does more harm than good unless used therapuetically. Your own wrist or ankle is always weak when you pull off an ace bandage and shrunken from lack of circulation. This woman gave an excellent demonstration but used the word circulation alot. I discovered that to bring circulation to the lower extremeties on a horse you really just need to deep massage from the back of the horses elbow right down to the back of the knee into the tendons. Works best when holding the leg up. This horse to my eye is very tight on the right front from the elbow to the back of the knee. Also supplementing with natural vitamin E goes along way in preventing soft tissue injury in horses.

You can compare it to using a compression sock for your own legs. It prevents fluid build up in the leg after hard work.

In my book standing/ stable/travelling wraps should go below the flock and down to the coronary band. Not a fan of linements either. Science shows they do not penetrate very far. The messaging aspect of application has greater benefit.

What do you recommend for horses that kick or tear wraps off over night?

Sybil Rose as far as tearing them up- I have used dawn dish detergent on the outer part of the wrap which does not taste good for the horse and sometimes they leave them alone- cayenne pepper spray is a good deterrent but be super careful not to get it on the skin of the horse OR your skin... if you use that be sure to wash your hands before touching anything (eyes especially!)
