UPDATE: Encore performances composed by YC : April 8, 2021 (his first Mozart 22) & May 18, 2022 (Tomato Hall Recital). The encore on April 14, 2021 is Rachmaninoff's 'Lilac'. Unfortunately, there are no videos for the songs composed by YC. (According to Sohn, YC performed songs he composed on days only when Sohn was away, so Sohn has never heard the songs either.) This video does not include all of his past performance videos, so I've also created playlists. Check them out! The purpose of creating the playlists is to allow more people to easily enjoy YC's past performances without having to search. Enjoy young YC’s amazing performances! ----- I know a photographer who is crazy about magic hour. Photographers call the time between the sun setting and the stars rising the magic hour, and it is said to be the most beautiful time when red, gold, and blue colors spread across the sky. His words, “The most beautiful time before the stars rise,” were the inspiration for the title of this video. I got to know YCL and joined the club at the end of last year. I knew the names of great musicians, but I didn't usually listen to classical music, so I had to study a lot. First I had to figure out why Rach3 is difficult. (Please don't laugh) - cuz he seemed to play Rach3 without much effort. Following in the footsteps of all newbies, I started looking up his old videos, and this video is a trace of that study. I submitted a report for newcomers!

it is so difficult to describe to explain in words why this pianist gives so much joy and inspiration to me during the last part of my long life(born in 1937) I am so thankful that the came into my life ,each time I watch and listen to his interpretations he gives me the most treasures gifts to make my days happy and colourful again and again.

I've been watching this again and thinking through the many hours of performances I have watched/or listened to featuring the modern day phenomenon that is Yunchan Lim in the past four years. Reading hundreds of comments and listening to interviews and reviews has allowed me to conclude that his enormous appeal arises from his incredible emotional and musical intelligence quotas. They are part of his genius and his motor and technical skills and dedicated interest and hard work add to that. He uses these abilities to a greater extent than many musicians, and he himself accredits his results to the compositions written by many very great musicians. In the music he plays he finds and explores not only the notes and directions inserted, but he follows and extrapolates the full gamut of their imaginations, human experiences and soul journeys revealed in their music by these great artists. He doesn't need to be an old soul, an alien being, or possessed. He just has to be himself and use his universe-gifted talents to lead us along with him on his journeys. I am aboard for as many of these as I can find. I love his humility and his stated appreciation of his family, teacher and friends. Thank you Yunchan, and Musik, Musik. 🌳🌳🌳🌲🌲🌲🌳🌳🌳.

I also don't like excerpting his music. All of his performances are truly worth listening to, no matter what age he was playing them at. For example, the Sinfonias he played when he was 15 is truly beautiful. There are some performances not included here, so I made a playlist. The reason for making this video was not only to show a montage of his musical journey, but also to show his past performances to more people.

오늘은 특별한 강의군요. 1990-1994년까지 실리콘벨리에서 주재원 생활하다가 한국으로 돌아오며 10학년인 큰딸을 목사님댁에 남겨놓고 한달의 1000불 수고비를 드렸습니다. 대학가서 기숙사들어 갈때까지...그때 목사님댁에 있었을때 힘들다는 얘기를 많이한 기억이 나네요. 아들도 2004년 10학년때 다시 미국으로 유학보내고...혼자 잘 살아냈습니다.오늘 강의들으며 옛날 생각이 많이 났네요.

After you listened to Liszt's Transcendental Etudes at the Van Cliburn Competition, the first thought is complete disbelief, then something along the lines of "why should anyone even play piano anymore?!". I'm old enough and usually the last one to make big proclamations (nowadays, everybody with a piano and fingers seems to be a genius!), but Lim has arrived - and has claimed the title of greatest living pianist. I can only imagine what he will do in the decades to come.

너무 감동적이네요. 콩쿨에서 첫 음을 치기전 너무 떨리는 상황속에서 손에 땀을 닦고 눈을 감고 집중하고 마지막에 옅은 미소를 띈후 첫음을 누르는 모습에 눈물을 흘렸습니다. 정말 존경합니다. 그리고 사랑합니다.

윤이상 경연 나갈때 고등학교 진학도 안하고 혼자 얼마나 심적 정신적으로 힘들었을까 생각하면 상받은 후 눈물이 더 맘이 아려오네요 덕분에 전화위복.. 모든게 드라마 같네요

How did you learn all this about yunchan lim and make this video?

I initially watched all of his Van Cliburn performances on KZfaq. Then I watched the Isang Yun, Cooper, and Cleveland. And while searching for Yunchan Lim, I fell into a flood of information... And I discovered several fan sites. Fan communities in Korea, China, and Facebook were also of great help. Especially information on YC's past performances is well organized on Korean fan site. At first, I made a short video about the screening auditions, but it looked like a promotion for the Cliburn competition so I stopped doing it. Perhaps what I invested the most time into for this video was data collection. After listing the videos according to the schedule organized by fans, then searched Facebook and Instagram and added them. I've also added some infographics created from the screening audition videos. After uploading the beta version, there was feedback asking to add some interviews, so I added his interviews. @@JeffKwak221 I've never heard of it, but it is said that his Rach3 with the New York Philharmonic in 2023 surpassed Cliburn's Rach3. The recent Rach3 with the Boston BSO is as good as Cliburn's rach3 (his majestic Ossia Cadenza!), but I personally like the blazing Rach3 with the Gwangju Symphony Orchestra in 2021.
