@@peacebuddha96I don't blame you for disliking the romance stuff, but that isn't really what changed the series. The world-building and the character development has been taking time away from the individual horror stories. The romance is only a small part of that. The fandom in the comments section just really likes to latch on to that aspect.

I'm so mixed about Melanie because on the one hand like I get it but the other hand I'm so scared of the fact that she's dead set on killing Elias after all he's said about all of them dying. Like,,, with everything else going on it just doesn't make sense and it wouldn't help and I get it she's traumatised obviously cause Elias is a d*ck but it really puts me on edge.
@donnashippee1588
@donnashippee1588 Жыл бұрын
Melanie kind of annoys me. She is angry and feels so betrayed. But she was pretty much the only one who was warned before she became part of the archives AND had a choice. And yes, Elias is a dick, but she tried to kill him multiple times before he really did anything to her. And as the only one with any knowledge before choosing she still thinks herself the most cheated. Sigh... Honestly, holding on to anger over a long time always kind of confused me in general. Anger is an defensive 'emotion' (or more precily: a reaction), when you can't confront your real feelings, because vulnerability, fear or hurt often are petrifying emotions, and you often have them in situations that (make you feel you) need you to be active. But holding on to that, means staying in denial while keeping the want to directionless destroy things (and hurt people) around you activ. Yes, these emotions are difficult to process, I get that. And, yes, it takes time. But your a grown up, so take responsibility for yourself!
@lordbaphie
@lordbaphie Жыл бұрын
I think people often forget that she's being influenced by the Slaughter as we speak. It's not that obvious at the start, but the fact that she mentioned about her anger at the same time as she gave her statement about the ghost bullet on her leg is not a coincidence. Of course she wants to kill Elias and of course she knows it will kill everyone. And what does Slaughter does? KILL EVERYONE
@PedroKing19
@PedroKing19 7 ай бұрын
I think people often believe that she CHOSE to join the institute when that's flat out not the case. To me, it has always seemed obvious that she was compelled to join. That, to me, explains a lot of her anger.
@bluewolf619125
@bluewolf619125 5 ай бұрын
@@PedroKing19Does Elias also have the ability to compel people? Cause this is my first run on the podcast and I remember both Tim and Martin telling her it's a bad idea to join as soon as Elias made the offer but she just seemed to ignore it. Then she went on but hurt that people weren't happy she was there after they told her she shouldn't have joined. Then she blamed John about her being stuck there when that whole happened while he was MIA at the institute. Its kinda why I'm still heavily on the fence about her. Also I feel like if Elias could've just compelled her then he would've done that again instead of traumatizing her into submission.

Tim's character...development...if you could call it that... It really, really hurts. S1 finale: "Statement of Joe Spooky regarding sinister happenings!" S3 finale: "Honestly, I hope that John learned something from her because, because I don’t expect I’m going to be coming back from this..." This S1 Tim was so short-lived. He appeared, won our hearts over with one phrase, and then turned into air and smoke, a beautiful memory of something that could have been, but wasn't. And I know. I know that Tim was a front. He never actually existed. There always was only this angry, depressed, broken man with no hope and no reason to live anymore. But it still. Hurts.

Kinda like an interim manager who everybody's super pissed at but they have no real power bc the Boss is actually the one pulling the strings. To be fair Jon's p much left them to their own defices (again, not his fault!)
@DJSilly9
@DJSilly9 Жыл бұрын
I feel like the only person that's actually doing it baselessly is Basira. Tim was getting stalked by jon in S2 and by season 3 is basically just about off the deep end, and Melanie's got a slaughter bullet inside of her, but Basira is kinda just... a bitch. She can tolerate daisy, but not jon when hes starting to go through the same thing she did.
@melissaharris3389
@melissaharris3389 3 ай бұрын
@@DJSilly9Basira's hypocrisy is something that season 5 tries to deal with but never really succeeds at. She needed to acknowledge her own culpability and enabiling of Dasiy but never got a chance to as they barreled toward the finally. I would have appreciated a few more episodes with Basira instead of Georgie, Melanie, and their sycophants, personally. It's Melanie's constant refusal to take responsibility for her own choices while blaming Jon that really sours me on her. Slaughter influenced her but she made _choices_ , just like all the other characters, but is the only one who tries to excuse them by blaming others (namely Jon). The theme of the series is free will and choice. Melanie in my opinion shows what happens when we shirk responsibility for our choices. She ends up blind.

This episode statement alludes to her association with the Slaughter.
