i believe they use 'spouse' rather than 'wife.' sasha's nonbinary and uses he/she/they pronouns. also fun story, jonny asked sasha which horror writer she wanted their namesake's character to be named after. sasha chose r.l. stein, the writer of goosebumps. jonny vetoed his choice and instead named her after m.r. james.

Definitely gave me "RAAAH I'M BEING MEAN TO SCARE YOU OFF AND SHOW HOW I DON'T LIKE YOU (because i don't want you to die oh god please escape before he realizes i still care about your well-being and kills you)" vibes. Like, he's clearly just trapped by a powerful entity and trying his best not to let anyone else get hurt. Martin has said the same thing over and over: He doesn't want to let anyone else get hurt. I firmly believe that through it all, that's still what he's trying for

18:02 Martin's breath shakes at hearing someone else is around him. That's not a show for Peter, that's him being genuinely uncomfortable with people coming near him. It's like how Jon would get irritated when someone interrupted him during a statement, momentarily breaking his connection to his patron. I also like how it's implied Peter vanishing and appearing is more a weird sort of teleportation than invisibility, unless he slid through the door as Daisy was leaving. It'll be interesting to see if Martin's connection to his new patron will manifest with similar abilities.

I didn't realize this until my third re-listen but the reason why Martin is so hostile here towards Daisy is because he's holding himself back. She says Jon is back and the poor lonely boy probably desperately wants to run out and greet him, to ask if he's okay, but he can't and the line about there being no room for feelings is as much directed at himself as it is at Daisy.

Love this thought process. The psychological affect of trauma on different people, each of them assessing their own personalities in the face of danger, bad choices, and finding themselves wanting. Jon started as a loner with trust issues and he suffered for that and decided to change (something we got to hear very explicitly) whereas Martin was hurt by Elias taking advantage of his soft heart and decided to emotionally steel himself, something we're witnessing now. Love that kind of character progression. Reasons why I LOVE this podcast

it feels like peter lukas is picking out all of these statements for martin, not just because he's trying to be like "whee hee extinction is a threat" but also to further isolate him. like, there are some lines that are so blatantly egregious, like "and while i could theoretically contact my old mates, they'd all gotten on with their lives without me. the world had moved on. i was left behind" like jfc do you really have to point out that with everyone's own cognitive distortions and shit that martin probably doesn't feel like he could reach out to jon, even if he wanted to, anymore? do you think he feels replaced by daisy, in some way, because she's the person who seems to be staying with him unconditionally, now? which isn't even getting into how basira is trying (and failing) to be a tough, ends-justify-the-means kind of leader, due to having spent months in the archives with nobody but melanie, and how daisy has done irredeemable things but is still trying to be better, and how jon's paranoia in s2 set himself up for being tim's emotional punching bag for semi-misplaced anger in s3, and then combined with the survivor's guilt that was exacerbated by basira's continuing grief and melanie's bullet-exacerbated anger issues has basically resulted in him thinking of himself as no longer human and now he's going on snack runs for people's trauma and, like, dude? you were stuck in a coma seeing everyone's nightmares for six months? he has given up on trying to be more lovely. sorry i just got overenthusiastic about the emotional isolation of all the characters and also how martin is taking a metaphorical file to all his tether people and just. filing away. bye bye to the human connections people need in order to feel like people

(sorry for the rambling lol) this is a little too relatable. the mundane horror, not the numbers. having to move back home to suburbia, to aging parent(s), struggling to find a job, stifling hot weather. and the doom isn't a heart attack or supernatural. sometimes they'll forget something or they need the tv turned up loud to hear. there will be a day that they need care i can't give. a nurse, a home, then a final duty to arrange and attend a funeral. i've seen dementia wear away at a person far too many times, and my mom's inches towards her father's alzheimers like hair growing. only noticable when you really look, and like the eye i can't help but know how bad it's getting, going to get. i prepare my grief like a ritual, to see my marked mother taken by unknowing and then the end. i'm so tired of not being able to ignore the horrible truths. fears so simple and universal among humans that they become eldritch. but that's why i love shows like this. i cling to them in their hyperboles that make the hard to describe be seen, and i feel understood. i could write a thesis on this kind of thing. the power of hyperbole to magnify the mundane tragedies into catharsis, hope. i love fiction that makes me want to write; even if it feels like it's being pulled out of me.

Interesting that Martin wonders why he’s not told anything and then snaps at people when they try and tell him something. And I know it's because of Peter, but still he can’t exactly be upset about things he’s doing to himself.

Did this guy just stumble upon a haunted *Kraftwerk* demo ? Lol, because we've got: -a track named _Numbers_ -synth music -monotone distorted voice -repetitive melody -ominous "lyrics" -reference to broadcast and radio -pollution of nature by technology/machines remains -the motorway (Autobahn !) -allusion to nuclear warfare ...And the Extinction in general is also the fear of being replaced by technology. So machines, computers, robots, ... *Very* Kraftwerk. It's a coincidence, I'm sure, but this is a lot, hehe. Also I still have and use my old iPod so thanks for making it terrifying, I guess

Someone (can't remember if it was in the comments or in the podcast) mentioned that the End didn't used to have any Avatars but now it has Oliver, but why? Is it because Extinction is growing and opposes End? If an extinction event occurs then there is nothing left to End, which is like the Hunt having nothing left to go after. Did End choose Oliver as an Avatar to act in its best interests? Did Oliver approach Jon in the Hospital because so little is known about Extinction at this point and he thought the Magnus Institute would have the easiest time learning more? Things to consider...

but like, you get that he did that because he knew peter was listening, and that he was afraid peter would cast daisy into the lonely if he didn't make her leave himself, right? i feel like a lot of people in the comments are missing that, despite peter and martin talking about it right after it happens.
