It looks like Ionic is HTML/CSS/JS based. Flutter uses its own rendering and widget engine. My laymen understanding is that this allows Flutter to be higher performing, and better support things like gestures in a cross platform way. It is also arguably more maintainable than a large JS application, since Dart is a more structured, analyzable, refactor-able language. In other words, a tradeoff between using the existing, well known but leaky abstractions from the web (leaky, mainly, in performance and other legacy baggage) and the cost of writing new abstractions (Flutter) but being able to tailor it specifically to your use case and avoid the mistakes of a decades-old platform.

Dart is one of the coolest languages i ever used and it is not dead :)

I have started to look at Dart, coming form Java, Its feels at home at the same time better. It solves the pain points from Java like constructors, It took me few hours to pickup the differences. So anyone who knows Java can learn Dart in a day.!!! So Dart is trivial to learn and I can focus on flutter framework.

google has started promoting it now... and in direct competition with ReactNative.... these both framework unionises mobile development with single code base... however, ReactNative has an advantage there are lot many people who know JavaScript framework... Flutter people could themselves back... to learn a new framework with a new language (though quite an easy one)... but with plus developed can integrate their flutter code with existing code using Platform Channels... and gradually refactor their codebase while learning Flutter...
