Genshin Impact has stayed the same ever since it came out three years ago. Character levels are still at 90, Talent levels are still capped at 10, Weapons are still the same, Artifacts are stil the same, skills and whatnot remain functionally the same. I wanted to talk about how that's a huge reason why the game feels like it's going nowhere even though there's still plenty of content being uploaded.

I actually thought with Fontaine, you could either dive anywhere or swimming would no longer cause drowning. But I was surprised to find that you still could. I guess that power is just limited to Fontaine.

Here's a Problem Genshin should fix: Traveler should be able to switch to any of the Elements at any point rather than only at a Statue of the Seven.

Yea and in cutscenes THE TRAVELLER USES MORE THAN ONE AT A TIME. IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE THAT WE CAN'T

@@CookieSlayerThirdJunior Yea, agree. But ever since Inazuma Archon Quest part 3, after Traveller fought Raiden Shogun, he never uses his elemental powers anymore. I like the dull blade meme, but what? Their only upgrade shown is physical strength? The last time they mixed their elemental powers is geo and anemo during the Childe fight in Liyue.

I guess Genshin's idea of progression is building new characters. Which could work, but the issue is that building characters is such a boring repetitive chore it isn't rewarding at all. I still have characters which I've got three years ago and didn't build at all, because doing the same domains and bosses another 500 times is a chore. And I play Genshin to have fun, I don't need another boring job out of a game.

Ditto. I think they can expand the game play content w/out necessarily power creeping, but these are suggestions that have been offered since 1.0-1.1, but Hoyo has proved the only voice they listen to, is themselves (with two exceptions being Zhongli and anniversary 2 IIRC). They could introduce 4* True Ascensions that could give access to different kits, they could add a floor 13 of abyss that rewards character building materials and could be replayed, but requires 3 teams or something. So many suggestions, and yet they refuse to listen. I still enjoy the game and play it quite often, but yeah, it gets stale where at times I sit there and go "Okay, I've farmed this domain for the billionth time, to improve some characters or build new teams, for what? I can already 36* abyss if I try, so what difference does it make?" It's that feeling of "whats the point" that is dangerous to games, and yet Hoyo seems willing to skate right along that thin line.

all gacha games are like that, but other gacha games have progression in their gameplay... for example, another game from Mihoyo HI3, if you compare hi3 now with when it was launched, the gameplay and character development is very noticeable... while Genshin's gameplay hasn't developed much since it was first launched...

@@caesart9264 they probably tried to avoid going in the direction that game went by doing anything they can to avoid feature/powercreep, since hi3 is pretty bad at managing it, so bad in fact that they’ve resorted to the warframe route of making you need to use certain things to clear some of the content later in the game, and some enemies are called (insert character here)’s boss

It is even worse now because most 4* characters require an element for upgrade that the boss material doesn't come from. I was building Mika and it was a pain since boss dropped anemo crystals but I needed ice. I have not played on my main in over a year for a lot of reasons, but made a new account earlier this year. If I were on my og account this would have been whatever because I would probably have enough gemstones to upgrade with, but to a new player this is a pain

Another issue that’s overlooked is how 4-star characters require the same exact grinding and materials as if they were 5-stars. It defeats the entire purpose of their rarity and just gives the player more work for something that is obviously less rarer.

and weaker too. If I were to get Xingqui and Yelan around the same time, what motivation is there for me to pour any energy and time into Xingqui when Yelan takes the exact same amount of resources for better results? If 4stars were easier to max out, it would add so much incentive to build them over similar/powercrept 5* units

​@@yumirow7487Well they are, 5 star healers, shielders and DPS are better way better than 4 star versions. Do you even play the game? When a non 1.0 version 4 star is good it's the exception, not the rule.

Man getting that stamina boost back in Monstadt and Liyue felt so satisfying. I get they don’t want to break combat but that’s what they get for combining combat stamina and running stamina. Maybe they could add an overflow bar that’s ONLY used for running? Even though I just use Yelan to move around everywhere, I’d like to try other party setups where running for 10 seconds doesn’t nuke my stamina bar.

I wonder why stamina is used for sprinting at all.... sure, in combat. But world exploration? Being unable to run is nothing but an annoyance.

@@jadecoolness101 it's just like that because of Genshin's nature being a Breath of The Wild clone; BOTW works like that, so Genshin did the same at this point, the feature is redundant tedium, as seen by other games "copying Genshin" removing a sprint meter

The most puzzling thing is that the game already has the framework for lvl 100 characters. Since day one it has said the maximum talent level is 15, but we haven't gotten the ascension to do so. A7 would also be the point where we get a 3rd passive. Just thinking about it feels like they are hiding 20% of the character from us

We already have enemies at or above level 100. Leveling characters beyond 90 or skills beyond 10 would be huge investment, so players could only max out relatively few. It would also need a higher world level, or the game would be far too easy.

​@@henryeowensYeah, WL 9 and lvl 110/ 120 enemies are sorely needed, AR 65 would be appreciated also. One thing they have to fix though is exp required to go from 55 to 60, as it is just a grindfest.

@@henryeowensIt wouldnt be bad to even get 2 more world levels beyond the current one. Abyss could also get an update that brings enemies to level 110. The grinding wont be too bad because ascension and levelling is nothing compared to artifacts, which could give higher difficulty domains for us to get 1 more guaranteed 5 star artifact per use of condensed resin.

the talent cap is there for a reason, it's to account for future possible buffs. in 1.0, the maximum talent level was 13, either a skill or a burst crowned with c3 or c5. with 4.0, the maximum talent level is 14 now, because +3 normal attack level constellations became a thing, and childe has a passive that increases na levels. also, increasing the level cap to 100 with no change other than bigger stat and talent numbers wouldn't do much. spiral abyss is already easy enough to where most teams that have some investment can beat it. genshin's not a hard game. so a simple level cap increase would either make the game too easy or it'd make hoyo have to buff spiral abyss enemies stronger to balance it out. so yeah, characters not being able to get one more stat boost isn't really an issue that needs solving

My biggest issue has always been that the game doesn't allow you to farm anything. You get a pitiful amount of resin to farm bosses, artifacts, XP, talent mats, weapon mats, etc. It feels like they don't actually want us to play the game.

EXACTLY!!!! without resin you basically can't make progress on making your characters and weapons stronger,it's HELLA annoying, ESPECIALLY when you wanna hurry up and be able to 36 star the abyss,I love genshin but mihoyo should rlly focus on improving old features and gameplay before adding new regions every update,it's like they're ignoring our suggestions tf 🤦🏻

@@Hyeinniii i completely agree, but genshin was originally made for people coming back from school, work, ect to wind down and play casually, even though its a very grindy game... its just sad honestly, 1.0 had 120 resin and star rail had 180 MORE than what we have currently, which just says a lot.

Stopping stamina gain from oculi was especially weird considering the strange amount they capped us at. Why have it be a reward for collecting oculi when you're only going to do that for 2 regions? There's a lot of times where it feels like the amount of stamina we have isn't enough, and even if they don't want to increase the stamina cap, they can do things like have statues reward you with other bonuses, like 5% less stamina usage from dodging and sprinting for example

@boyishdude1234 those character bonuses cap at 20%, and you need to have the character on the team for it. Idk about you, but my usual teams don't end up using characters with stamina reduction unless it's gliding stamina, and that's entirely useless in combat I'm not sure exactly what hoyo themselves want from the stamina bar, but considering players have asked for more for a while, I think they're hesitant to increase the cap further, because desynchronized attack spam and heavily spaced out enemies (overly inflated health and damage numbers too but that doesn't directly correlate to stamina) are the only ways they know how to make difficulty in abyss 12, and that's because it places a large drain on your stamina trying to dodge and reach the enemies. Different percent reductions would provide progression reasons to upgrade the statues, make certain characters with inefficient charged attack playstyles (like my poor keqing) more usable, and also allow for more team building options/creativity if they allow the character talent reductions add their 20% to whatever percent we end up with, as well as potentially adding characters that offer charged attack consumption reduction (which, don't get me wrong, they still could right now, and should, but it would still synergize) I want either one, increased cap or more reduction, but hoyo doesn't seem to want to increase the cap, and splitting up reduction into specific categories gives them easy rewards to give us for the next like 3 areas

For gameplay, there is no real point increasing level caps, it'll do nothing but make the game more grindy and less accessible to newer players. However, since this is a gacha game where we keep acquiring more and more characters, I have always be in favor of a horizontal expansion instead. Content which lets players use a greater number of characters to clear seems like the logical progression direction, but we've still never seen anything like this in permanent content, only briefly in certain events Story-wise there is certainly a lot that could be done. I especially find it a bit sad that old areas feel largely pointless once you've cleared their one-time rewards in exploration and quests

Not even true, because another level may mean another passive/talent for characters. This can funamentally change the way said characters play and/or revive characters that no one uses.

You could make it meaningful. Imagine that you could "limit break" a character to increase their level cap to 100, but it requires a special item from events and you need Friendship level 10 and when you actually get to level 100 you unlock a color swap of the character's default outfit. Now you have multiple things to work towards and you get something you can show off at the end.

Descriptions on C3 and C5 constellations definitely tells us we will be getting 2 more levels for our skill and burst (or Normal attack for Lyney and others). So yeah, probably there will be an increase in level cap after Snezhnaya or after Khaenri'ah, or after Celestia.

@@thedead073 Considering Hoyo have never wanted to add any buffs or nerfs to already existing characters, I'm not so sure they'd ever be willing to add new talents to character kits like that. But even assuming they would, that still doesn't have to mean you have to increase the level cap, you could just as well add those hypothetical new talents to lvl 90 directly if so The extra 10 levels themselves are still pointless, all that does is drastically increase the amount of resin you need to spend on your account before you reach endgame without adding any additional strategic complexity, and in turn is going to be a big problem for new players

​@@Kuddochanexactly. Stamina is already spread thin between all you need to farm to raise one chatacter, let alone 4, let alone 8 for abyss, let alone more than that for having choices. And now add to that 1 more ascension that will be costly, all the exp/gold you'll need to farm because it's gonna take a lot of it and you get a worse game experience. Not even mentioning the artifacts that are what actually matters, you can be level 100 all you want if your artifacts suck your character is useless. Meanwhile you can be level 80 and cope woth good artifacts, soecially if the character is not the main DPS. I think level 100 should come eventually, but mihoyo needs to prime their game for it, not dump the update on us just because. Ascencion mats/weapons ascenion mats/artifacts and skill books need to cost less stamina or they need to give us more stamina. The amount of farm you can do daily is incredibly limited specially as time goes on and you have more and more characters to built.

It really does feel like Genshin is just the awkward middle child, it seems like a lot of issues it has are fixed by both Honkai 3rd and Star Rail. I want to try 3rd again, but the story just felt so erratic it really threw me off hard. I love the story in Genshin, but even I think it can get way too long and winding, especially things like the Sumeru world quests that are just visual novels with long stretches of puzzles thrown in sometimes too.

Hey the positive thing is, I've turned from dolphin (welkin+bp+top up every reset) to ftp because genshin don't have anymore progressions and no end game that can induce anxiety to me lol. And I have like 4-5 full team for spiral abyss, not counting all my fully built units that I've benched. So now I only save for archons and harbringers and the casual waifu/husbandos that I really really like both design, character and gameplay wise. So thanks for saving my money mihoyo 👍😘

I am also the same. I felt I paid enough for what I have played and can't justify the BP even now with being too broke in game to level anyone. I need more reason to spend money past what a normal AAA titles $rrp is. I am happy running around and collecting materials still. But the resin to level is non existent

Former Dolphin here. 🐬 . 1.0 player as well. I still do Welkin and BP but stopped paying for anything else. Got multiple 36* spiral Abyss teams. And pretty much also only save for Archons and Harbingers now. Sitting on 400 pulls rn.

I feel like Genshin backed themselves into a corner when it comes to world difficulty level when they placed giant walls every time you go up by 1 AR level. By the time you get to AR 60, you're basically done. I think they need to find a way to somehow go around AR 60 and allow players to get higher AR and world levels. Because at least in the early game, that's how game progression like character lvl limits, domain rewards, etc. get unlocked. So that kind of progression has worked before in pushing players to play the game, especially for those 5* artifacts or for being able to unlock the full potential of their characters. That and also I really want there to be a situation where world enemies do get harder and roughly stay that way. Because if you're an AR 60 players that has already maxxed out everything, you can probably kill any enemy outside of bosses in less than 10 seconds (maybe 5 seconds will already be enough for some). Not saying it should be Spiral Abyss level of difficulty. But as an AR 60 player now, I really miss the days where I'd be motivated to make units better because I'm having a hard time defeating enemies at that point in time.

You're really not suggesting anything miraculous or hard to implement - they can just give the players extra world levels for those who want to enjoy the overworld's combat more. They don't even need to give us rewards and extra AR levels for it, just give us the option

@@jackreacher7495yea, surely you want to raise a character u don’t like in a gacha game where people play to the game to get their favorite character I get people like Amber despite her in game value but who the fk would want to level up Aloy when they can just pull for a Ganyu that looks 100x better

Think this is easily solved with one more world tier. One more world tier that brings things closer to the way the Abyss is. Level 95-100 enemies in the open world and maybe even less healing from the statue. Quests can still be capped at the old world level of difficulty for the sake of not progression gating for someone who is already AR 60 but makes it not as easy to steam roll commissions or bounties or anything else in the open world. Maybe even max difficulty for domains that can give a guarenteed third artifact or something. Bigger rewards if you can complete the harder challenge.

I think a small but fun progression update they could add would be increasing max friendship level. There has been multiple fan concepts for character unique gliders and I think that would be nice addition. Like after you reach lvl 10 you unlock a new track that maybe has additional rewards w the final one being the unique wing glider. Just a nice way to show your love for your fav outside of just the namecard I find that after I reach friendship 10 w a character, I lose the incentive of using them for exploration and daily commissions

I actually love this idea! I’ve been routinely cycling through characters in my teapot and daily commission party so as to get friendship level 10 with all of them. As of now, I have about 50 characters I believe, and max friendship level with 30 of them. It also gives me an incentive to use all that mora and materials I have an overflow of by now to roughly build most of my characters. Like they won’t all have great artefacts, but if they’re all at least a4, triple 6 talents and have decent weapons, they do their job in the overworld no problem.

You have said that the Jade Chamber was reconstructed in an event. The reconstruction of it is, however, part of an interlude archon quest.

The fact Genshin is a gacha will forever be its chain to progression. The fact you need a premium currency limited in the world and only obtainable through special events, limited items and actual money will halt the progression. They can't make progress, because the only real progress after building a character, getting good artifacts, crowning and leveling...is to get constellations. And even then, artifact sets are gated with the resin system not even allowing to truly max via stats. Even stuff like "new talents" or extra levels are sorta locked behind constellations. Think of how constellations just "magically" fix a lot of the weaknesses of character. Genshin can't add progress or at least (real progress) because that's money lost. Getting special weapons? That's money they could've made. Getting Constellations for free? That's money lost. (think of how we get a character free on an event...that most day 1 players already have 7 copies of. But all are 4 stars that are mostly niche). Everything is money in a Gacha game. This game is not built around being a good replayable game to enjoy for years to come and make content around gameplay. This is a game about how strong you can make your characters to easily farm required items on a daily limit and time gate event so you can spend money comfortably on the next limited character that will probably power creep the other units. Gachas will always be about making money and making you think you have to. The only way they will add real progress, is if they get money out of it. Its only the nature of Gacha Games. if i may say something, i've read people say that Genshin is a "cash cow"; basically generates the most/steady income. i understand and can see why they call Genshin that and there's nothing wrong.. but.. if the cow (Genshin) is producing the most high-quality milk (Money) out of every cows (Games) in the barn, shouldn't the farmer (Hoyo) do everything in their power to maintain the cow's longevity/health so it can continuously & consistently produce more high-quality milk for them? or maybe i'm stupid and my way of thinking is completely wrong.

I think genshin needs its own simulated universe, maybe we would dive into fragments of the past scattered in irminsul and a new world level with 100 lv increased cap would be an great oportunity to rebalance the game by giving the characters an 3rd anscension passive. Like giving a strong passive to outdated or weak 5 star would be great oportunity to rerun the character, it would be an win win. Also i loved the local legends as i needed to actualy dodge the atacks.

@@ametistakikiki2328 level 100 means NOTHING..thats a freaking drop of water on a burning hot stone.. it goes POOF and you feel absolutely ZERO difference ... the cap increase MUST be a significantly higher, 120 is the best next Step they can do with AR90, because then you have exactly 6x 5 AR Steps in order to increase your Max Level exactly 6x+5 from 90 to 120, which makes it easy for the Game UI to simply change the colors of the Stars as a visible change of your progression. A change from 90 to 120 is definetely a significant change, that you would absolutely feel as a player, because with 30 Levels more, you'd have significantly higher Stats than with level 90. Fightign as lvl 90 vs. a lvl 130 (Abyss has always +10 more at the end) enemy has to feel like such a big difference, that enemies will easily wipe the floor with you, unless you progress with your character and close the Level Cap to at least 110, unless you get your characters upgeared and equipped with new Equipment thats avaiable from AR61+ onwards like Armors, like Boots, like Accessoires and like 6th Artefacts (Shields) in order to have a significant Stat Boost over your Status Quo how you were at AR60 with just level 90 and without all the new equipment thats there then now in order to rebalance all Characters aroudn that new Status Quo past Ascension State, a State which requires to activate the Awakening Stage ofg your Characters in order to be strong enough to deal with the Game Content past AR61, so that the game reaches a stage, where its again challenging and more rewarding for everyone, than ever before in the last 3 years... its about time that MHY finally implements the Abyss Part 2 basically with Floors 13 to 25 so to say, where you have to fight then Enemies, that are ranging betwween level 101 and 130!!! where you won#t come far AT ALL, even not with C6 R5 characters, as long you keep them at Lvl 90 with just low equipment state of AR60 niveau... The game needs to enforce all players from AR61 onwards, to develop their characters again fuerther and progress with them, to keep you busy, to keep you incentivized to play the game for the next 3+ years. its about time, that MHY hangs finally out a new Progression Carrot, we can chase after, that is hanging on a now much higher position, than before the last 3 years, that basically all day 1 players have reached already YEARS AGO and play since then in a content draught with no new progression.

Mind you, genshin abyss today does exactly that by beefing up stats and that's it. We all know player's feedback on that one. Even better, make your character with 10 HP in total while fighting abyss. So even being hit with DoT can instantly kill you. How about that? -_-

What I think would be good for the traveler is being able to change elements at will. But a better idea would be giving the players a choice of the elemental skills and elemental burst of the traveler. With this we can now mix and match what skills and bursts we want, this can help improve and keep the gameplay of the traveler fresh.

Imo, the ER regen on electro traveller could work really fine with the dendro burst's cost, the mix and matching of skills really would make traveller feel like a 7 star instead of a 4 star

I think you forgot a key point: not all progession is vertical. Number doesn't have to go up to make the game more interesting. I'm personally a fan of horizontal progression - introducing more ways to achieve your results - and I think Genshin is succeeding. Some may discount character collection as progression, but I disagree - at least in Genshin's case - because they do their best to avoid powercreep and make new characters different, rather than just stronger, like most gacha. Even outside of that, Genshin keeps adding interesting new zones - something every other gacha struggles with, if they even try - and their inclusion of great swimming mechanics makes me excited for future traversal options. If you are studying game design, then you need to familiarize yourself with "dark patterns," because most of what you ask for in this video are additions to those toxic behaviors, and they will ultimately do more harm than good.

It's so funny because the problem Genshin has is that it's wide as ocean, but shallow as puddle. Judging by your profile picture, you must understand it very well, since you must be a fan of Castlevania. This problem is not affect just combat, it's everything about the game. For combat, Genshin need some "real" progession. Every thing that fans consider "deep" is just a way to make beeg pp damage. It doesn't help you do damage in a different way, it's just damage. For example, fire+electro would be much, much, much more interesting if the reaction deals a neglectible amount of damage, but it'll push other enemies away from the target (imaging Pain's push ability in Naruto) it'll help a character who focus on dealing a single target damage avoid damage. And Electro+Water will pull enemies together (imagine Pain's pull ability from Naruto) or making enemies sharing damage received. This way it'll help a character with small aoe. But what the game actually offer is just a dozen reactions that do the same thing. Even tho the game gave players multiple choice to kill enemies, but it's an illusion. It's not even like DMC5 design philosophy that each enemy has at least two ways to deal with them. For example, Dante's close up moves. Every one of Dante's weapons has a form to get close to enemy with different property. One will knock enemy outward, one has high stun value but very slow, one is fast but low stun, one is fast and high stun, but if you mess up, it'll leave you vulnerable. For exploration, a medtroidvania fan should get this well. Genshin is wide, but you have no reason to go back to the same area again. A new area is fun, but only the first time, like, the underwater section is great but only once. But the game also did some pretty good job with dragon's spine. I've replayed it exactly 4 times, and I still think it's great. It's not like Genshin usual "go to point a to b to c." It felt like an actual sense of adventuring. Because there are tons of stuff in dragon's spine, and the quest lines are "there are stuff going on around here, can you do *** for me?" And because it's so dense, you'll do other stuff in the way. The things that have some impact (open an area, or remove barrier) not some random dopamine spike (chests). I never felt anything like this in other area in Genshin. It doesn't felt scripted. It's not a single straight line that unlock as you progress in a story quests. It's not like aranara where you can only do things after the game tell you to. The only reason you can't do things is because you haven't unlock it yet. You haven't gain the ability to do it yet. Not because some random NPC tells you that you can't. You do it because you've earned it. You didn't earned it because some random NPC gave you the permission after you do the things they told you to do. But you earned it through your adventure, you put your own effort into the game. Even in fontaine. It looks great, but that's it, it never felt this way. Genshin want to spoon feeds player. It's the reason why the game is so popular. Because player never have to do things for themselves. Even the story is this way. It's not interactive story. Players are just little birds waiting for whatever the game will give them. The game will never improved, because of this.

I actually dislike this video because Vars didn’t expand on this fact - a few years ago, casuals and whales alike basically have been enabling Mihoyo to treat us badly because they still spend money on the game or still get the characters and play the events with the badly designed/incomplete character kits that only get fixed with constellations, and the meager crumbs we get for event rewards. In a way I feel like it’s also successful because it kinda reflects the current economy and how a lot of jobs very often underpay people way less than their actual value to a company, but that’s another discussion regarding the psychology of Genshin’s success besides a gambling addiction.

Some people may not know but the original combat designers for the game don't even work on genshin, they have since been moved to other projects, solidifying that the current state of Genshin is entirely predestined and they aren't just tone deaf. This will be how the game is until the inevitable end of the story in which case they MIGHT then decide to add endgame but they will most likely instead offer you another new Gacha game to play. Even though Genshin has always stood out amongst other Gacha games it is not exempt from the same business practice of trying to get you roped into playing multiple gacha games at the same time as that is what is most likely to milk the most players for money.

I wouldn't want to see characters and weapons going to level 100. I would like to see more different endgame content though. Spiral Abyss could be one of many difficult endgame challenges, and even Abyss needs more floors now, instead of just making floor 12 more difficult over time.

Yeah going to level 100 means a lot of books and mora, nothing interesting at all. It would be actually bad. I wish they play more with meta in the abyss. Like 13th floor with 5 chars team. or substitutions like we have in some events with benched players.

Honestly despite everything I feel like the idea of just…adding more levels is really NOT the way to do it. Getting something from level 80 to level 90 is a pain in the ass enough and through any way to benefit the game, increasing the grind isn’t how to do it

Can’t agree enough on the oculus collecting point. The stamina upgrade was a MASSIVE contribution as to why I hunted them throughout the first 2 regions. In inazuma, I’ve only collected 20 and in Sumeru I’ve only gotten 3 😂. When stamina capped, It’s just a pain in the ass to find now and for such a low reward so why bother?

I really am surprised we haven't unlocked Level 100 for any of our characters yet. All skills can go up to level 15, that has been clear in talent descriptions since day 1, but we're all still at level 13 max! All I want is an extra endgame mode where you need to stretch your team building and character roster to its limits!

Three characters now have a normal attack constellation, which means that the new max is level 14, with Childe's talent. It'll probably only be one level, if ever at this point.

i wish the playable harbingers could have a talent passive just like childe's. They could've easily given the passive to wanderer ( though the passive is pretty similar to raiden and a good one that too ) and future harbingers like arlecchino down the line, but with skills and bursts

I believe that a good way to implement progression would be adding a level 100 for characters that gave them a new passive that gave what they did a new purpose like Qiqi overhealing gets converted into a shield or Albedo's burst ticks lower elemental res but in order to unlock the ability to level 100 a character you had to complete their specific story quest which gives players an incentive to learn more about the character and actually do story content with the reward being a boost to what your potentially favorite character can do It's either that or we have to mash through quests anyway without any reward other then a Googleable cutscene

What constitutes 'progression' is a really tricky thing. Although technically there has been powercreep in the sense that teams do more damage overall i think a lot of that has been due be to more variety in characters/artifacts, introducing dendro, and theory crafters breaking the game down for the average player. There have been strong characters in the game that have withstood the test of time and have even been 'buffed' through a new artifact set being introduced (ex: Fischl and Golden Troupe). However, after experiencing powercreep in other games like Tower of Fantasy for the last year I would really like to stress that raising the level cap, making the max artifact level 24, or simply making numbers bigger really is not healthy and will kill the playerbase faster than avoiding 'progression' by means of powercreep. Powercreep renders old units completely useless. However, i certainly agree that something needs to be added for long term or non-casual players. I for one would like to be able to raise the difficulty of overworld monsters and have encampments that you could raid for some small reward even if it is a measly chest. I think giving Geo some kind of relevant reaction would incentivize me to finally pull/build a geo character. As an aside... I started playing Genshin because it had co-op, however that system turned out to be half baked.. Why not flesh that out? I would have loved to discover Teyvat alongside my brothers. There are endless possibilites for them.

Raising the level cap on characters would be horrible. To ascend a character and their talents to the current max you already have to repeat the same tasks so many times that at the end it's a punishment not a reward. It's weird that in the beginning of the video he says "too much repetitiveness is as bad as no content" and yet the solution is more repetitiveness.

Don't want to build level 24 artifacts? Introduce new system on high AR that lets you buff the numbers on substats your artifacts get (it'll also bypass one of the level of randomness nobody likes) Dont want the level 100? Introduce some (sorry for using overused term) new passive talent, that will shake-off a feeling of a character, that'll add some kind of QoL change (especially the charas that was left out by many). Now to the counter-point. We have these upgraded characters and the abyss 12 is a joke. What now? Add more levels with more intense play (no, not the 11-1) to test our fresh teams. There's way too much of ways to make the game more sustainable, not only just releasing us from a hell of a Resin, but add just few more things, so our day won't be just "complete commissions, take rewards, send expeditions, burn resin, get out", we already can get commisions off by opening random chests or clearing dusty quests we forgor. our day now is even shorter.

Honestly this is what burned me out with tof. I took a break for a few months due to unversity, and when I came back I found that my C6 Tian Lang was pretty well unusable. The speed and degree of powercreep makes me not even want to play half the end game gamemodes because any new character I build will be useless in 4 months.... so why even bother?? In genshin, I built Itto the day he came out. I still use him. The current abyss wants hp changes, elemental reactions, it REALLY disfavors Itto. But, he DOES still carry, my effort in building him was not rendered a waste of time through power creep. Other units are faster, but he's not USELESS. I can say that for every unit I've built too, aside from Freeze Kaeya because nothing can be frozen anymore, regrettably. My time feels more respected because the characters it is spent on are not being rendered completely obsolete. Side Point but this is also why terrible units like Dehya, Amber, and Xinyan feel so insulting to me. Dehya especially is a GOOD character in lore, many people like her. So making her that abysmally weak feels so insulting. It is ultimately a waste of my time to build her, because she was obsolete on release, but I like her, so if I want to use her in any way I am put in a position where I HAVE to "waste my time" as far as the meta is concerned.

I agree that adding new gameplay or horizontal progression is always good (for example giving reasons to build more characters, adding more AR levels, adding a new thing to improve the team - maybe totems or something that buff the team -, or adding a new skill to the characters - kinda like ousia/pneuma but with actual relevance and you don't need to pull for someone. Idk I'm not a game developer, just trying to think of something) but I really DON'T WANT the game to be even more grindy with them adding lvl 100 to our characters or more ascensions or more talent levels and stuff like that. It takes 5 days to lvl up from 80 to 90, around 2,3 days for the last ascension, someone really wants to grind for two weeks for ten more levels? Because I don't. Maybe people that are playing since the start have plenty of resources even having 40 characters lvl 80 or 90, but most players don't have the bag full of stuff, I promise you this, it's a very bad idea to give to Hoyoverse lol

As a version 1.0 player I feel actually punished for having well built characters, because now there's nowhere to find challenge except Abyss 12 (edit : Abyss 12 are not that much of a challenge if I think about it). The few enemies I encounter on the map get demolished by any of my teams, even if I only play two characters.

so in the first part of the video you are saying that the temporal event should contain big lore drops, thats a great way to create FOMO thanks. In terms of progression i like how genshin has so little power creep that i can even now get Jean a build her and she will still be viable. The beuty of this game is that once you max out your first characters you can move down the list and build other characters that you like and have a very different experience with all the teams. Like how i build my hyperbloom team and sucrose/kazuha/raiden national and now i've been building dehya on mono pyro and after i might do mono geo, just like minecraft the game gives you so much freedom in what you can do, so you can build any character you like and still feel good when they can spiral abyss.

Likely not. I've been slacking on opening chests in Sumeru and Fontaine for that reason. Don't need the primos/mats/AR xp that gets converted to mora, anyways. Might as well wait to see if the cap ever gets moved.

Unpopular opinion I prefer old fashion xp grinding like killing open world monsters/bosses, than hording thousands of XP books to instantly reach max level. I like that sense of "slow but steady" growth from XP leveling in other games. I also like having more reasons to log into genshin and enjoy it's very satisfying combat system...

@@sallya.921 that is because of how all genshin stories are structured. Our character has almost nothing to do with most of it. This is a fundamental problem with genshin. People want the skip button because paimon does most of the talking anyway. It is boring to just click next for 2 to 4 hours. Easiest solution: give traveller more dialogue options and more often and also let him speak it aloud ( what is the point of having a VA anyway)

Lots of great ideas, but locking level 100 behind limited time items is a really bad idea

Genshin is limited by being a mobile game and having restrictions due to the average cell phone's hardware. So many story events are basically side quests because players who miss them do not get a chance to play them at a later date. Opportunities for event stories to have lasting repercussions also create massive gaps for new and recent players. For example, Albedo's 1.2 and 2.3 event stories are very important to the character and potentially other related characters, but if you started in 2.4 or later all of that is lost. Because there is no way to replay past content due to mobile hard drive limitations most stories are episodic and unrelated to the next. Also, raising the level to 100 really doesn't solve the progression problem. I have seen it time and time again in MMO's. You raise the cap and less than a week later everyone is at the new cap.

Blue Archive is slowly giving specific units a feature called “favorite accessory” that gives an extra passive to one of the character abilities. And this have made low tier units to be viable in meta and sometimes, strong units even stronger. I wish I could see that for Genshin(maybe lvl100 passive).

Not only that, but every accessory comes with a brand new relationship story. I remember spending a ridiculous amount of gifts on Eimi to get her portable fan, just because I wanted to read the story behind it. I've never even used her, but when I got the fan, I felt satisfied. Genshin doesn't just need more progression, it also needs a goal that is satisfying to reach. Also, president, please get out of the NPC jail.

Lmao its ironic that i just saw a tweet that said JJK should have more filler content because they want to see characters do normal shit and here i hear you say that filler content is bad because they do normal shit like talking. I personally like filler content because its just nice to see characters that wouldn't usually interact talking to each other. I'm guessing its an acquired taste because I'm also the type that watches slice of life/iyashikei and im absolutely all for genshin becoming more like visual novels.

This right here is why I’m burnt out. At the beginning of the game, stumbling into Dragonspine was an unforgettable experience. The enemies there were much harder than elsewhere and the freezing mechanic kept me on my toes. Right then and there I had a goal: get stronger so I can survive Dragonspine. So I did. And that time still to this day was the most fun I had in Genshin Impact. But then nothing like that ever happens again. The enemies everywhere are pretty much the same level. With no drastic differences between areas. I love seeing a area I can access but being too weak to go there so I get stronger and then am able to survive there. It’s such a good feeling! Now I fear after having such good artifacts that when they do finally add higher world levels, that I’d be able to breeze through it even without leveling up because artifacts are so stupidly OP. I have soooo many materials because I never upgrade my characters anymore because they are all way too strong now. I kinda want to just delete my good artifacts so that I’m not OP anymore. Being OP is boring!

While I lost my love for the game because I was disillusioned with Dehya's kit treatment, I do agree that the game has lost sight of itself. I'm the kind of player that never skips dialog whether it's archon or world quests but I stopped caring about it because 95% of the time, the story is presented with characters standing still and doing the same gestures they've been doing since 1.0. I don't mind dialog heavy games if at least the way they present the dialog is interesting, look at Death Note, they managed to make eating a potato chip hype as all hell. Look at the Ryan Reynolds movie Buried, it's just him in a box for 95 minutes but it has you biting your nails wondering what's gonna happen next. I moved to Star Rail since the game came out because I feel like it respects my time more and a lot of characters are easier to like and I'm convinced that Hoyo is much more interested in Star Rail as a game with the amount of support they give it.

IMO, the issue is their success. When you're raking in a billion dollars a year, your customers are basically telling you "keep doing what you're doing". Another thing to keep in mind is that Genshin is marketed towards children and adults. They intentionally keep the story somewhat watered down and the gameplay simple to appeal to the "wider audience". They're probably afraid of alienating their casual fanbase if they add more progression.

Funny that, because when I was a kid games on sega and PS1 where much harder. The bar is too low now considering all the other effort they put into making the game. At least put in a game setting to make it hard. Hard in all its puzzles, mini challenged and games they do. Combat difficult is a hard topic but at least make the rest of the game difficult, I don't need 300 seconds to collect 5 orb challenges they get completed in 20 seconds.

yes genshin is a game but i have been treating it more like an interactive anime. new patch = new episodes new region = new arc archon quest = canon episodes world quests = ova flagship event = movie non-flagship events = fillers and i'm sure i'm not the only one that feels that way..

but the events aren't fillers because the issue is that they hint back to it in the original lore which sucks. Like Scaramouche as a character comes back from his event., Charlotte as a character comes back from her event

@@softlocker5941 naruto and one piece had tons of fillers too.. let's take the 4.0 archon quests as examples. they're approximately 4 hrs each act or 8 hours in total. that's equivalent to more or less 24 canon episodes of anime.

Let's not forget how in 2 separate ocassions they somewhat nudged a character's background only to bench the character plot-wise again, in the "Hat Guy" event (I fucking hate him) Faruzan FINALLY got a student, and in the 3.8 Event another Lawrence woke up and realized "wow my family is awful and my attitude is scaring the hoes", guess what? Faruzan is irrelevant to the plot and Eula is only there when we go to Mondsdat, sometimes, mind you. Tbh, progression, much like pity should give you some sort of "guaranteed" so you don't feel like you are going on circles, like artifact farming, I just started farming Golden Troupe and I already pictured myself being stuck in the domain for the next eternity. There comes a point where you realized you are stuck waiting for a new character to pull for and build, I have 24k Hero's Wit, 48 Million Mora and 10k Weapon Mats and most if not all my characters are lv 90.

the whole crown of awakening idea was really cool. Mabe something you can only unlock at lvl90/friendship 10 idk. Something that gives your character a specific % bonus based on their tailored kit. Like anemo/plunge % bonus for Xiao, charged attack bonus for yanfei/hu tao or dendro dmg for alhaitham. It doesnt even have to be huge cuz its still a form of progression making characters permanently stronger

i don't want character level to increase. sweaty players will reach that in a week. then they have same issue. and new players will be left behind even more. something like custom spiral abyss would be awesome.

I love listening to your videos cause it makes me realize what could've been but at this point it's just screaming into a void. Genshin is a victim of its success and the devs are not incentivized at all and outright refuses to make any of these changes. Star Rail having every single QoL improvement Genshin players have wanted for years is proof enough.

I wonder if adding a 13th floor (or a new game mode) where you swap between teams could be fun. There are so many characters in this game, but ultimately, you only need 8. I forget what the event was called, but there's an event where you have to rotate through 6-8 (can't remember exactly how many) teams of two and defeat as many enemies as possible in a given time limit. If they did something like that, but with teams of four, it'd give us reason to build more than 8-12 characters. If they do 6-8 teams to rotate through, that's up to 24-32 needed units right there. And if it's a changing domain like the abyss, even MORE units because different metas want different plays. Early players don't have many characters built, but this isn't an early game gamemode. I'm no game designer though

@@shadow0974 yeah... we don't want players to get anxious after all. It's just that hoyo's approach to avoiding powercreep is simply make more characters for more roles. To complement this approach, they could give people a reason to build multiple characters of similar roles. We have Neuvillette, Childe, and Ayato... one of them is ultimately going to be benched, because abyss only needs two teams. Usually, the two sides of the abyss don't even favor the same element, so ultimately you only "need" ONE of these three built. If we were given a "floor 13" that had a lot of pyro enemies and forced us to rotate through 6 teams, all three of them, AND even more hydro dps units in the future would have build incentive.

Mmm... I agree that Genshin needs to update its progression in some way, but I disagree that increasing the level cap on characters/weapons is the way about it. Rather, I think I'd prefer putting in additional progression systems that exist alongside the current ones that are retroactively applied to past characters. In Arknights, for example, the module system was added at some point, which takes characters' class attributes and gives bonus modifiers, and then modules were given additional tiers to further increase the effects of their unique talents. Perhaps something similar could be added to Genshin, a sort of extra equipment piece (which I'll tentatively label as an "elemental booster") that can only be equipped by max ascension characters and can only be crafted by sacrificing specific artifacts, but makes up for it by adding on some extra passive to the equipping character. For example, perhaps one such booster could add a chance for a character to apply their element to an enemy when dealing physical damage, while another booster could cause a character's crystalize shield to explode when destroyed, causing a radial burst of damage equivalent to a high percentage of the shield's strength. There could be other effects as well, and while these boosters might need to limit who can equip them based on element or weapon, I think something like this would be a much more appealing way of improving progression instead of simply more number-go-up. ...also I don't think you should be looking towards Pokemon when it comes to additional progression systems, since Pokemon has a nasty tendency to discard as many systems as they introduce, including more than a few fan-favorites.

@@zaboono Uh, not sure what you mean in reference to the regional sigils, but insofar as my idea for a new progression system is concerned I would like to clarify that, for this hypothetical new equipment, they wouldn't have to just relate to combat. They could also improve exploration, such as by improving how quickly stamina regenerates outside of combat or by reducing the rate at which sheer cold/heat builds up. Seeing as combat and exploration are the primary ways in which players interact with the game, having these module-esque items affect those two aspects of the game the most seems like a sensible idea to me. Maybe a little basic and something that would quickly wear thin if not regulated in some manner, but it'd be a start at least.

If they ever add a 13th floor they would need to rework entirely on the abyss because Hoyoverse idea of difficulty is by stalling the player with many waves of tanky enemies or with ridiculous amounts of animations where enemies are invincible or they are out of reach for damage.

I do have some disagreement with it, specifically taking the reddit comment regarding "anime filler" with some of the stories of the game. Though it may be my personal experience, I have always look forward to the Golden Archipelago and is what seemingly a yearly event not because "Oh its going to show the next storyline by the end of the quest", the island adventures are there to be a fun ride, just as Klee is taking in the sights and having the best day off of her life, that is the intention being given to players. World Building isn't just a story of "Defeating the Demon Lord", there is always things going on around the world that don't correlate to the main story, do you take every person in an adventure guild as people who are pursuing to kill the demon lord as adventurers? no, they explore caves, exterminate monsters, retrieve herbs and flowers, those are also an adventure, treating only main quest as the adventure is missing the point but blatantly ignoring everything else the game has to offer. lastly, I don't think Progression is everything, nor is it everything a person would want, take the Anime "Yuru Camp", there is absolutely nothing going on, no grand story to fill but a lot of people love it, its just "chill".

genshin needs its own swarm disaster, ykwim? we're super early into star rail's life cycle but it already added so much depth to the game for practically all the demographics it caters to. meta players have a new endgame to go through, but casuals can still enjoy it simply as a remix of the sim universe mode. even lore only players can appreciate the insight into how herta, screwllum, ruan mei, and stephen use the simulated universe in-lore simply because swarm disaster exists. no idea how genshin can pull something like that off - not even sure they're interested in doing it. see you guys at the next random international crossover teyvat holiday festival event filler episode isekai quest 🙃

Mihoyo should add more gameplay activities in the open world for the player to engage in. Something that can make travelling the open world interesting and exciting again. Basically, we need more justification for all these areas to be in the game, because after you've explored all of it (which doesn't take that long), there's next to no reason to go back there. When was the last time you travelled around Enkanomiya or Dragon Spine, or even Monstadt and Liyue? For me, Fontaine is the only region I haven't already fully explored, and that's less than 10% of the game. It just doesn't make any sense from a game design perspective. Other games let you replay the story to justify the existence of the parts of the game you've already played. But what about Genshin Impact? You can't even replay the game's main story. Give us New Game+ or something, I don't know.

Apart from farming for material I feel it also isnt enough. I would hope you could at least earn resin when you kill enemies to encourage players to re explore, also adding more chests with each patch so we can continue to explore and earn more/xp books while farming materials for new characters.

I should add that, unfortunately and fortunately, Genshin's most enjoyable gameplay experience is exploring new areas. And those take a long time to make. The combat isn't enjoyable enough on its own to make people travel the world just for the combat, at least not with the enemies we have right now. I think we could benefit from a major enemy revamp for the older regions. They've added some newer enemies to older regions, but not nearly enough. And then on top of that I think there should be a world level 9, maybe even 10 for the mad lads among us. But we would stay at level 90. Because currently at world level 8, enemies die before you even do a full party rotation, given you're power crept enough. And that doesn't feel very good when the reason you enjoyed the game in the first place was because you weren't power crept, and you could actually feel the satisfaction of the power you gain from doing combos with all of your party members. This was the core gameplay design of this game, and Mihoyo have let it take a backseat in the game's open world combat after you've become too strong through power creep. By saying this, I don't mean to make the game harder, but rather just more satisfying. I want to group up all enemies with Venti's burst, and then mark them with All Schemes to Know, followed up by a hydro attack to spawn blooms, to finally pop Raiden Shogun's burst on all of them, watching them all die in one hit from Musou No Hitotachi and the hyper blooms. But instead, what happens is all the enemies die by Venti's burst before anything else can happen.

I do think that the game could use some more content variety, especially for endgame stuff as an alternative to spiral abyss runs, but I disagree on the point that the game has seen no progression whatsoever. The release of Dendro was one of the best additions to the game since it released. It introduced new play styles and revitalized even some of the older and mostly overlooked characters like Keqing, rather than having everybody just using a variant of national team for all of the game’s content. At least for me, the game does feel quite a lot different since its release than it’s usually given credit for.

Hear me out, I'm the most hardcore player there is (top 1% nahida, top 2% raiden, top 4% itto and so on) but while playing genshin and seeing the kind of content they add I've been thinking and thinking why they keep releasing characters that are bad (the last few 4* and dehya) and some bad constellations for them and my conclusion is a bit hopeful but I don't think is too inprobable... I think what mihoyo wants with their games is for you to be casual about it, for you to hop in, relax and be done, they don't want you to be hardcore about it (escept for whoever made the abyss with the 3 lectors xD). At least that's the feeling I get from it, is like they just want you to "enjoy" it and not necessarily to make you the game's slave to farm it forever. And this is all coming from a very hardcore player (I always go hardcore on everygame I like and play).

exactly this. i was an ex-competitive gamer who really loves chasing the leaderboard thingy. but in genshin, i can finally enjoy a game without feeling the need to taking things too seriously. yes, i still play the meta teams but only for the abyss. for the overworld, i have a bunch different chars ranging from the very bad ones like eula, to someone as good as ayato. i merely got them for the sake of their looks, personality, their part in the story of teyvat, and sometimes their combat animation look very cool (like ayato slash). and i will absolutely love genshin to be a visual novel game tbh. this game is my final resting place, i can just hop on and enjoy, and relax, turn my brain off. i merely farm artifacts too. i only have around 300 artifacts on my inventory (but still can clear the abyss 36* constantly lmao)

3.0 finally released Dendro as a playable element, combat wise it is very refreshing & feels different from the usual team comps. 4.0 added Pneumousia reactions, but it failed to feel relevant at all (other than for a few puzzles, but every puzzles have the necessary alightment nearby so there's no real incentive to getting new characters) despite all Fontaine characters having either alignments. It's just an afterthought & has almost no practical use. I'm expecting at least Lvl 100 Expansion in Natlan since the archon is the God of War. The game already has the system in place (there used to be a bug where if you lag your game really hard, you can see all the placeholders for Lvl 100, a 6* rarity & more)

4.0 was more about adding the underwater mechanics then The Pneumousia stuff in my eyes but yeah i get what your saying as its the part that actually made into abyss I know they Won’t (made excuses already) but having some limited Diving Areas in older areas would be so good, Imagine Diving Around Gueyun Stone Forest or Cider Lake! I can also imagine some very fun mini dungeons in like Dragonspine’s Water pool or in one of the Sumeru Desert Oasis keeping it just limited to Fontaine just feels lazy and shortsighted

​@remixtheidiot5771 speak for yourself, most peoples problems is their own mindset and lack of healthy balance combined with living in an echo chamber online. I grew up as a Black man in America without a father and in generational poverty in a major city. Mother worked 2 jobs to support me and my brother. By all accounts the easy thing to do is to join a gang and be apart of a "family". Luckily I was blessed with a sharp mind and realized all of that crap was self inflicted. Mom chose to have unprotected sex with a man that wasn't stable and put herself in a situation to raise 2 kids alone. Growing up my brother "escaped" reality by playing WoW and LoL for 14-16 hours a day. I on the other hand enjoyed coding, and sports so I would limit my playing time on video games to just a couple of hours but only after my real life sports and study were complete. I worked my ass off doing things I enjoyed while maintaining a healthy balance with video games. I went to college on a athletic scholarship bc I prioritized real life over video games bc you have more to show for it at the end of the day. That's the problem with youth nowadays is they prioritize the wrong things like my brother did. Long story short my life is great today. I have a beautiful wife, 2 kids I enjoy gaming with, and a high paying job that I love to do bc I set out early in life to do what I enjoy. My brother on the other hand is 42, unemployed, lives at home with my mother still and plays games to this day for 16 hours a day and is completely miserable. Moral of the story is healthy balance and priorities, I love genshin impact as a game its super fun and I enjoy playing it with my kids. Been playing it for a few hours a week since release. At the end of the day I prioritize real life hobbies over Genshin such as sports, working out, hiking, fishing, etc bc at the end of the day there's something to show for it. If you spend 16 hours a day playing games congrats you have 20, C6, 5 star heroes! You get some clout and praise online but then you return to your empty, meaningless real life and get depressed when you could have spent all that time you wasted "getting good" at real life. South Park hit the nail on the head in their freemium episode. Games today prey on the addicts to fuel their revenue like the alchohol industry does with alcoholics and its sad to see. Anyways like my brother I'm sure most reading this it will trigger them and solicit a defense mechanism in most but my aim is even if this helps 1 person reconsider and make healthier life choices and realize your problems are most likley self inflicted then it's good. I won't respond to any replies bc my poop is almost done and imma go out hiking with my daughter and I don't spend hours online every day.

One of the most frustrating parts to me is that the MiHoYo writers actually know about a lot of the issues with the game and will write them into stories/events as meta-jokes. We've literally gotten to the point where the characters within the game have dialogue that touch on the fact that the story doesn't ever seem to progress, or that Traveler doesn't always seem all that concerned with finding their twin, or that Paimon is an extremely polarizing character. It's almost insulting because it just highlights the fact that the developers know about these issues, will write them into dialogue scenes, but still not do anything about them. It feels sort of like they're going "we know you don't like this stuff but too bad!".

The game doesn't need any more vertical progression. What content is there to do that requires actually building strong characters? Spiral abyss/dps time trials? What Genshin really needs is more horizontal progression. Permanent repeatable content that makes more varied use of the combat system. Maybe we're burnt out on dps content, why not make content for survivability and defensive stats? mobility? elemental application? co-op? raids?

Agreed. I started in 3.0, and have almost finished maxing out the characters I like (30 or so). I don’t want to use most of the others, but there’s nothing else to do. I’ve done every quest, and have 100% exploration for most areas. Since I keep losing 50/50’s I don’t get new and exciting characters often.

I spoke to a game developer once and he said one of the most fundamental things in game design is what they call the "core gameplay loop". In other words, a set objective to which players work towards over and over. Unfortunately, Mihoyo has clearly designated the core loop for Genshin as "get more characters", rather than anything else. What they want progression to be is = more characters.

Your food analogy doesn't quite work. Because a corn dog with mustard is good, but a corn dog with barbecue sauce is nasty. It's not just the same thing in a new package. One is good one is not. For me everything before Fontaine was mustard and good, but now it's barbecue sauce 🤮. Personally I don't like Lenny or his crew, I don't like Furina or the Duke, and only Neuvillette is interesting. The enemies are becoming bullet sponges and it's boring. Which is the aspect of this video that you were 💯% correct about. Nothing is new or interesting and frankly if I could I'd be going to Natlan tomorrow and only stay long enough to unlock pyro before going North to end the game.

I’m not a big fan of the idea a limited event being the catalyst for a higher accession like lvl 100. They don’t come fast enough for that. We at least get multiple ways to gain crowns in a version update

Another problem with progression I had to live, as a new-ish player : you can litteraly get softlock because of the world level system I was struggling to beat a boss to advance in the main story, so I went to train a new character. So get ascenssion material and so on. While I was doing that, my world got form level 2 to 3. Now, I have ZERO characters that can take on any boss, so I can NOT level them up.... I am fonctionnaly locked out of the progression system H opefully, I can find people to help me get material and un-softlock myself, but it's frustrating having to ask people for help for something so basing as "being able to reach a high enough level to take on the MAIN STORY"

Arknights has this game mechanic called modules which you can unlock for characters who are sufficiently levelled enough. New modules based on the character’s class are released over time to give characters new passive abilities, some of which actually work to make older underpowered characters relevant again. Something like this in genshin would be really cool where older characters can unlock a third passive, and as more versions come out, newer character will get a passive of their own.

Community PvE events could be rad like ancient neopets. We as a community face a horde of invaders and need to kill, say, a million of specific enemies with a range of difficulty. We need the whales and tuners to kill the hardest ones, while the lower level and casuals have their job too.

Personally I don't want a level cap increase or any system added that forces me to go back and increase/grind for all the characters I already built. They are finished and I like it that way. What I would like is more end game content that uses said characters combat abilities. Running around in events popping balloons as I pass through them is not my idea of using the character I built and want to use (combat wise). But I will not hold my breath waiting for that to happen, I will move on to the next game that can provide that for me. --- Anyway, good video topic!

We need more of these types of videos! There's really no point in keeping farming materials, characters and everything else when there's no clear goal or purpose other than personal satisfaction. There's no true endgame content that challenges us to require going far and beyond than just Ascension 5, going AR60 or even leveling characters. There needs to be some sort of Simulated Universe, or a Q-Singularis, or anything that Hoyo has made for combat events to exist and give us a reason to power up our characters. Not just that, things like exploration doesn't have a real purpose beyond Mondstadt and Liyue because of what you said, there are no other rewards apart from the usual. Fontaine could've easily increased underwater stamina with each Statue level while Sumeru and Inazuma could've given us something like decreased Stamina consumption or something along those lines. Where's AR90? Where's lvl.50 Nation Reputation? Why can't we go back to Dragonspine to level up the Frostbearing Tree to lvl.50? Why can't they add something like QTE abilities to characters much like how they work in Honkai? Why not add more mechanics to Arkhe? Man this was such a wonderful video.

I'll still die on the hill that Genshin NEEDS end game content that actually matters. I've played since around launch day and will still to this day say that I've felt this exact same way since launch. It needs raids. It literally has the perfect system mechanics and fundamentals any MMORPG has with tanks, dps, healers, and support characters, and even ways to get them geared prior to raids in domains. Raid loot doesn't have to be gear, it can be anything players/hoyo deems worthy, cosmetics, pets, etc.. and it knocks out the social aspect by making relevant content you can do with other players. I still remember hoping at launch it would be added, thinking how cool it would be to tank a raid with my C2 Noelle, only 3 years later for there to essentially be no reason to even gear characters expect for wanting to do big numbers. I pretty much stopped playing for 1.5 years because of this. The game to me at this point just feels like story progression, and anything outside of that is just to flex. How cool with it be if there was literally just 1 raid per region? And you don't even have to have a large number of players, you could totally limit the amount or even go in as 4 and it still works because of the system mechanics. Hoyo has such a good thing here and chooses not to capitalize on it, no idea why.

We are no longer looking for our twin, at least not a primary task, this has changed even in the quest 'we will be reunited' where our main goal has changed to explore and understand why the other made the decision to be with the abyss 🧐; One more note they have plan to maintain gane 12 years (7 in the past) , interesting information isn't it 🤔 (and i think it's one of the reasons why they don't add so much Qol stuff, because with portions much easier to engage people)

I think the biggest thing getting in the way is that hoyo wants players to constantly be artefact farming to feel a sense of progression through getting better pieces/getting stronger. But the odds of getting good pieces is already low, then as soon as you get okay pieces, the chance of getting better ones slowly decreases as you upgrade, it gets to the point where you are more likely to be struck by lighting 3 times in a row than get a better artefact. You just hit a wall with character stats that is technically possible to overcome, but realistically will take years of grinding to get past. Additionally, all 5-star weapons being locked behind gacha is not good for the sense of progression. I'd like a simulated universe type thing where you earn fragments that can be used to buy either - unique 5 star weapons (like the herta store), or a genshin version of self-modelling resin where you can choose the main stat of an artifact created in the strongbox. I would also love an artefact resetter or sub stat reroller. Where you can try and get different stat rolls on a good piece, or you can choose one substat to reroll to hopefully get a better piece. I think if the type of progression hoyo wants is character building, they need to make it actually fun and rewarding to farm for artefacts. I just want something to do with my resin that isn't another goddamn artefact domain.

How to fix leylines: Resin decreased to 10 per run. Add difficulty options Lv25 Lv40 Lv70 Lv90 Lv90+ Scale it however you want but the final 90+ node should always be 2+ mill on mora and 20+ exp books. Add new leylines for enemy parts So you can farm enemy parts more consistently it's annoying as hell to run across the map constantly to hunt these enemies down, and enemies like samurais who barely drop anything actually make me want to punch my TV lol How to fix artifacts: Copy star rail and remove the heavy weight towards off stats. How to fix resin: change recovery from 8 minutes to 5 minutes Increase limit to 300 Add reserve stamina system from star rail How to fix gacha: Remove 4 star weapons from limited banners. 5star rate to 5% to match the average industry standard nowadays. Add multiplicative scaling on summons so you have a higher chance to get characters the now you pull Weapon banner now gives a free 10roll every week, and has its own summon item instead of using limited banner item How to fix events: Stop spamming tons of copy paste with different skins and spend more time making unique stuff at a slower pace. Start doing reruns and permanently adding old events with major story plot points into the game How to fix story content: stop adding stupid amounts of extra bloated dialogue and focus on character interactions more, I couldn't give a shitless about dragon man stopping the ocean this patch cuz I've had literally 4 conversations with him before this and have no fucking context as to who or what he is AND the traveler isn't even there to witness it like bro they shit the bed on the writing for patch 4.1 in every conceivable way when it comes to dragon man. How to fix weekly bosses: You can fight any boss you want up to 3 times for rewards, and then all others once. Sorry this is so long winded and I know only a real one will get this far and thank you for your patience if you did but I've studied the shit out of game development and even did it myself as a hobby for awhile and I've followed genshin since alpha I've seen them waste all the potential it has and it's infuriating. I've quit multiple times and gone to it's main competition and unlike genshin who I come back for once a year I still play the competition every single day, I always look forward to playing fate grand order, blue archive, star rail, and Azur Lane but I am always like ugg dammit I gotta get on genshin And it's cuz it feels like a damn chore not a game. Genshin needs to start improving the quality of life, no matter the copium people have player numbers are dropping and so are sales, genshin hasn't made a billion dollars since year 2, 2 years of dropping sales is never good and most of that money moved to fate grand order, star rail, and blue archive the better games.

I don't agree with the character banner gacha system. It's the difficulty of obtaining them that makes it all the more worthwhile. This is just my opinion but I love how unfair this game is. The tiring grind and unpleasant frustrating experiences make the game alot more memorable and fun. I've been an f2p all the way and looking back on everything Ive achieved gives me great pleasure.

Genshin is a game that was planned for well over 7 years. Keep in mind GGZ servers ran for 7 years before shutting down. While progression is good. It is not without it's cons, especially if it goes out of control. Let's use Clash Royale as an example here. At launch CR had 3 rarities Common, Rare, Epic. Then legendary cards were added. And each card had a special ability. At that time, legendary cards were novel and exceedingly rare and expensive to obtain, but it was worth it because of the cards' sheer strength. Legendary cards could not be donated, making them very hard to obtain. Then trophy road was added and legendary trading was added which made legendary cards too common. To keep the game "fresh" Supercell added Champion cards, which preceded legendaries in rarity and had special abilities on top of unfair stats. Max level increased from 13-14. But it didn't stop there as level 15 was soon added. CR recieved heavy backlash from the playerbase because of level 15. It drove players away and CR is now a dying game. Nowhere close in active players as a few years before. Genshin in it's own way is preserving its longevity by keeping it's max progression because no matter what, people are gonna complain at any changes that is made. While increasing max level is a solution? After a few months when players reach the limit, they will start complaining again and the level cap will increase again, which only leaves newer players with no way to catch up. It's a vicious cycle of no end and it only drives out new players and anyone who cannot keep up with the "progress" will leave the game. This is a leading cause at which so many games are dying. Long running series like Pokemon have always kept players from progressing to a certain limit. The level cap of pokemon has always been 100. There is a reason why it hasn't been changed. New features are appreciated because it is not unobtainable to new players and it is never kept for another gen. The only constant change is new pokemon/areas to explore. Guess the only constant change in Genshin? Characters and the map. There is proof of how the current formula works and there would be no reason to change it. The only real people complaining about this issue are people who honestly play the game too much. At that point, there are always other games to play, where you start fresh and progress through an entirely new premise. So, no Hoyoverse has not forgotten that Genshin is a game. Ultimately, Genshin is a game, not your entire life. They try to cater to the majority. So as to not drive out the playerbase. Story progression is ultimately tied to permanent content. The rebuilding of the Jade Chamber permanently changed the map because it is a world quest, not a version event. It's the same for how world quests permanently alter the map. The rate at which they release new "progression" may be too slow for some players. But in order to cater to the most people, Hoyo tries not to release content too quickly for players who don't play as much. This is the main reason why Genshin is able to retain it's playerbase.

Great video, keep up the good work! In regards to exploration and occuli - while I do think you have a really good point that more progression would make that feel more worthwhile and give everyone more incentive to actually do that, I am one of the players that really enjoys the grind for those sweet map percentages, and many of my friends think so too. I don't want to disprove your point that there is no real incentive to do this except primogems for f2p players and BP/Welkins players, but there are a lot of people out there that just love exploration and ngl, exploring a new area for a some hours to see all the small secrets that are hidden (hidden notes, the local legends that came with fontaine -> best addition since a long time in my eyes, secret quests and interactions) just to open your inventory after a long day's work and see that you have gathered almost a thousand primogems feels really rewarding. Do I think this is enough to keep most players? Hell no, dolphins and whales do not care about the primogems and some people even see exploring itself as a chore. I do think there needs to be more progression behind all this and I think the ability to upgrade characters past 90 is long overdue. To add onto your point here, I remember the bossevent where you had to go gather runes that you could use to give your characters whacky new abilities to challange difficult bosses - the idea was already here so being able to grind out your world to exploration-locked upgrades in form of special buffs for your teams (or maybe even characters that have been ascendet past 90) would be really cool. I don't say they have to be as busted as the buffs were back then, but even some stuff that allows for costomization and an artificial feeling of control over your builds would be neat. There is so much potential in the game and I really hope they lean into that at some point.

I have to *hard* disagree about character development. Yes, they’re *largely* the same but that’s also how adults are in general. Change is slow. And if you look at Traveler, Wanderer, Xiao, and many other characters they are, slowly, over the years changing as individuals. Traveler’s dialogue and how they carry themselves has changed very slightly to become more certain in their actions and more judgmental, for example. I prefer realistic character development.

Something that'd be nice and would show some real progression for gameplay and the story if they added it as an actual gameplay feature since it happened in a cutscene; Let Traveller Use Multiple Elements! Like why have we seen Traveller use Geo and Anemo during their fight against Childe, but patches later we are *still* limited to only using one of the elements at a time. Not saying make Traveller OP and the master of all elements, but imagine how much more viable Traveller could be if they could hypothetically use Dendro and Hydro, or Hydro and Electro? You'd have the ability to use one character to proc multiple reactions, and it'd offer some really neat team-building opportunities as well since you wouldn't technically be limited to only 4 elements in a team. Not only would this make Traveller just overall more worth building and playing, but after years of everyone in Teyvat singing the Traveller's praises it would be nice if I actually *felt* like a dragon-slaying, archon-fighting, nation-saving badass from the stars when I'm playing as the character. 😅 And story-wise imagine how the reveal of that ability might go, there are so many potential plot threads to be untangled, so much potential lore about Traveller themselves that could be dived into, and we'd have a permanent reminder of our progression as the Traveller once that ability is unlocked for the player! So much potential just completely forgotten about by Hoyo apparently. Just giving the player the ability to use 2 elements at once would make them feel infinitely better to play especially for higher AR players imo and would give me personally a feeling of progression for the Traveller themselves. They feel like they've stagnated and I for one want to feel like they've actually grown or evolved in some way.

All the comments in the video are accurate but I would also like the game to update QoL to modern era: No more day-locked domains, less festival events or allow us to complete them after they've expired for less rewards, ability to save resin over a couple days, reduce the overall ascension cost for ascension specific mats or make the mats respawn every single day, chose your difficulty at any time for everything whether it's domains or leylines or world quests or whatever. Disgaea 7 just came out and while playing D7 I thought "ohh crap I forgot to log on to genshin for mats." I can't even remember which mats I wanted. I haven't even finished Sumeru because every time I log on there is some festival or new character I need to grind for. When I do get a chance to play the story it's walls of text just to say something simple. The game is designed to waste my time. I like star rail because it has all the above QoLs, and if I don't feel like playing I can store up the stamina resource for a day, nothing is time locked, I can scale ever fight to whatever difficulty I want, and I can farm whatever I want on any day I want. I can do dailies in 5 mins on star rail and I can auto battle anything I am grinding for. Genshin feels so incredibly tedious I feel lik eI'm only playing because of "sunk cost."

I have this motivation problem when it comes to genshin whenever i come to play just so i could pull for a character which is the only thing i do in this game ive never felt like being touch in with the story after the inazuma archon quest even if the new sumeru archon quests is interesting even now i just got hu tao and im mostly playing like once a week or maybe not at all i really love genshin but my motivation to play barely gets me going

Honestly what I feel Genshin is lacking the most is meaningful multiplayer modes. There is nothing to do in co-op except grind bosses and domains, and maybe help a friend explore if they haven't explored everything yet. But you can't do quests together (in any meaningful way at least), there's no gameplay that's unique to co-op, and if you don't have friends to co-op with, the only way to make them is to randomly try to join someone's world. They already have the adventurer's guild in game! Imagine if they made a guild system for players! They could even have ones with new players for older players to join and assist them, or even allow newer players to join higher WL worlds with some kind of buff so they aren't one-shot by everything. It sucks that co-op in Genshin has so much potential to be fun given the element system, but it's pretty clear they have no interest in utilizing it outside of mini game events, given how many characters are kinda unusable together in co-op anyway (e.g Yae, who can only have so many totems in place, regardless of how many Yae players are on screen)

What hit me hard (as a new player) while playing Genshin was the recourse gathering and farming that's needed for every character. I also played other games so I couldn't just completely invest my time in Genshin. I managed to get my C1 Jean to lvl 80 while everyone else that I used at the time was 70-60 with low skill levels. And the relics are fu*kimg shit. Farming became the whole game for me, because I knew the story wouldn't really give me much that I needed and for me it felt like a waste to go do a story for some exp books and 40 primos, because I can farm level materials for 3 characters and get skill books + exp books from just farming... And another thing that scared me was being too weak for the content that I didn't do. Reaching higher AR is terrifying, because I don't want to lose extra loot and make enemies weaker, but harder enemies are just annoying to deal with. Right now I just can't get any good weapons or relics. And I can't really farm, because then I would ignore another game that I like and will lose progress on it. I think the lower AR a player is, the more resources he gets. I ignore the tea pot, bc it just absorbs a lot of my time... And the card game should just be its own game I already don't have time. It feels like it's too much. I did stop playing Genshin for some time, because my real life became more stressful and I didn't enjoy it. I also couldn't get any I wanted at the time, I just got 2 Jeans and a Qiqi and I was AR 40. It feels like I missed so much and it feels impossible to get any characters that I want. (Got Furina actually).

There is progression: horizontal progression. You build more characters and get variety. Vertical progression is just more grind and if they scale enemies with it, what do you gain? Nothing. IMO it feels like the only people having problems are whales because it is easier to hit a power cap that most players might never will. I can always get better artefact stats, or new sets may be more interesting. Same with weapons. Combat has been evolving. We saw a shift with dendro. I think we've yet to see the full potential of pneuma/ousia yet as I feel they want more characters able to use it available before they push it harder. We're more than half way through the element story and making something too radical at this point risks being game breaking. I'd take the same system over that. If you want a different game mechanics, find a different game. Don't break the one we know and love.

I can still 36 star abyss with 1.0 characters so why should I even bother to build new ones? Horizontal progression is cool but if you dont even need it to make progress then it isnt really progress.

Is combat really evolving tho? I feel like with dendro you just mix and match elements as what you would normally do with any team comps. It just same gameplay with different outcomes.

huge disagree with adding more levels to characters and weapons, no need to increase the grind. i've already quit Tower of Fantasy, FFBE and WOTV because they kept adding more levels and the grind became unbearable. If anything, add an extra skill to everyone at lvl 90 to not worsen the grind

My personal ideas, have your amount of companion exp for a character have some sort of effect on gameplay or have some sort of new ability for characters.
