38:40 Use the proper evonik optical plexiglas and you will get no scratches. Only cheap normal acrylic will get scratches.

I did watch -- start to finish. Thats incredible. I'm entering into my own printing by just purchasing a Canon 4100 printer. I can see the process with be quite different and thus the result -- not in the same league -- that said, your work is inspirational. I feel like I have lots to learn.

Same here with the Pro4100,, where did you find the Hahnemühle paper charts for the Canon names in the menu? I am finding that information near impossible to find even from Hahnemühle itself but I know it exists.

In my darkroom days in order to fight dust on my 6x6 negatives, I did the obvious things like trying to keep the room as dust free as possible. But the real life saver was an hour before printing I would run a humidifier. That had the effect of greatly reducing static electricity and also settling the dust in the air onto the table and counter surfaces where it could then be (mostly) eliminated. I'm guessing that the air is dry in Las Vegas so this might help.

Cool comparison! Please could you make a comparison huge print between a drum scan and a scan with a 45MP or higher digital camera at 1:1? Would like to see

Vegas is very dry, therefore more dust. Not quite so bad in Albuquerque, but still a lot of dust. But I shoot digital, which helps somewhat.

Impressive image Tony. I have 2 questions. How does the lamination effect the archival quality of the print? And secondly, couldn't the lamination take the place of the glazing?

The print is basically sandwiched between 2 pieces of plexiglass; an adhesive film is used to affix all the 3 pieces. This produces a crystal clear presentation of the image. Thanks for watching!

I just notice that the customer is given a white glove to prevent fingerprints but the workers were never wearing gloves all throughout the procedure.

Very surprised just how close the flatbed scan was to the Drum scam. Leaves me to wonder how much closer they would be if you wet scanned the film on the flatbed.

Terry, I was surprised as well. I will say that the difference in the print was a bit more noticeable than the scan. I think it would be interesting to do a wet scan on the flatbed but I do not have that capability. Thanks for watching! Tony

What kind of lamination was put on the Fujiflex Supergloss print? And was this then back-mounted to acrylic instead of face mounted?

Steve, the lamination put on the Fujifilm Flex print is the adhesive for the acrylic. Face-mount refers to the acrylic and not the print. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching! Tony

@@tonysantophotography So is their plexiglass/acrylic on the front of the print? I'm trying to see if there is a way to display Fujiflex without either glass (which is too costly for big prints) or plexiglass/acrylic. I typically only print with Fujiflex and then use the TrueLife acrylic face mounting. I'm trying to see if there are any alternatives. Hopefully this makes sense. Thanks for such a great video!

Shouldn’t you also have shifted the gamma [at 11:10]? To have your highlights more centered, resulting in a more balance exposure, as this can’t be resurected once scanned? Although I guess at 24-bit maybe you can? But I would still think having the bulk of the information (the peak of the histogram) more right of center still? At least that is how I would set exposure, would appreciate if you could comment ... Thank you

Neil, a piece like this would run roughly $4-5 K. It takes about 8 hours of labor to produce a piece from start to finish. Thanks for watching!

William, the printing, lamination and mounting of the photo on acrylic at this size will run about $2000. The frame can run about $2-3K. Thanks for watching! Tony

It's fine, you're getting your work done and you're representing a company that obviously does quality work, but you were compensated for your video work with free services and product. 28:10 Dust is distributed from top to bottom and from right to left. lol. that's not how you do it dust free. 29:40 shows ho to do it properly.

Wow, you were serious when you said it's an in depth video! Excellent presentation Tony, thanks a lot, it's very informative. And the photographs are outstanding as well! In case you have not seen it already, Nick Carver did a video on scanning large format film on Epson scanners: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/o8x3fseQpqu-pI0.html. You might find it useful. I am very surprised you find it so easy to avoid newton's rings. Do you use any kind of shims to offset the mounting glass from the scanner glass?

Truth be told, I had trouble making Newton rings for the video! I am sold on drum scanning so for anything I’ll print I definitely would go that route. Thanks for watching! Tony

I’m sorry but your printer is wrong: C-print is not the standard in the fine art world. Everybody has pretty much moved to pigment prints. It is archival (it will last a lot longer than a C-print), it has a much much bigger gamut and color accuracy. And it has a much better resolution.

I really wanted to watch your video because the content is interesting, but your editing made it impossible for me. The way you transitioned scenes, made the screen wiggle, and the way the music was louder than your voice made the video unwatchable for me. I couldn't even get a minute in. Please, less is more with editing
