What I like about the Skydome is: "It Works". The way the roof operates is just awesome. Built at 570M (1989 dollars), on time and on budget, I think it should send a clear message/reality check to Montrealers, who are stuck with an ugly, non-functional, non-operational (about 20 events a year, when the weather is good) and costly white elephant, the Big Owe, build at 770M (about 2B in today's dollars) by an French architect from oversea, and still unfinished when the 1976 Olympic games began. It took more than a decade to complete the tower and install the roof, which soon ripped apart. I think it's the only stadium with a roof, where a baseball game had to be postponed due to the rain. Oh, and the Big Owe non-retractable must be replaced, again, for perhaps 400M. Long live the Skydome!

Skydome was WAYYYY over budget (it had originally planned to only cost $150 million. Also, opened two months behind schedule.

Now, more than 30 years later, SkyDome is considered obsolete. I say it’s still futuristic. Gonna be a sad day when it comes crumbling down.

Rogers just invested 300 million into upgrades, with a 20 year payback. Meaning it will be around for at least another 20 years. I think if they invested in a real grass field, and translucent panels on the dome that let natural light in when closed, it could be around for even longer.

nigel mahabir Absolutely right! I thought the same thing and very saddened when it changed. SkyDome just had a better and unique feel to it. Sad!

Agreed, but obviously, rogers has to blurt their name wherever they land, so sick how they also want to destroy this amazing place, and the history it holds within it..

That's what rogers does best, ruining it for the sports fans. I knew this was gonna happen once they entered the Canadian sports industry, and now look they've actually done it, somehow someway they use Canadian sports as a money-making machine and ruin the hearts of Canadian sports fans. They don't care about us! They just want money, and now they want to demolish this amazing building that has brought us so many memories but nope. Screw rogers...

Disgusting, gross! If rogers really wants to go through with this I will be sick to my stomach. So much history and memories made within the stadium and rogers wants to throw it all away. Wanna know why? Because they don't care about us, they don't care about our city, and they sure as hell don't care about the blue jays! All they want is more damn money and I hate it!

shut up.... we deserve an actual ballpark in toronto , not this monstrosity which is such an eyesore and does not even have the feel of a ballpark. The concrete jungle is what Assdome should be named. No real grass, no natural light when the roof is shut. WE NEED A NEW STADIUM!
