the finest song ever recorded since 1989. The message runs deep into the soul of humanity. A song writer is a poet who puts words to the feelings that all of us have. Thank you!

incredible song. i am not an overtly emotional guy but this song brings me to tears everytime. how can it not?! al sons and fathers have this disconnect at some time and you just hope its not left until its too late.

I got to tell my dad all the things I had to say...he did the same. One day, after a brief virus, at the age of 95, he passed. I walked into his hospital room and he left his body right then... "Say it clear..." Thank you guys so much!

Beautifully done, in fact the line "I am sure I heard his echo in my babies new born tear" just about did for me, I was driving on the M25 and had to pull the car over on the slip road as I basically lost the plot. What an incredible lyric. Every time I hear this track it touches my soul. This session certainly adds to the original, beautifully choreographed.

Mike still sounds great. such an underrated artist. This song always brings me to tears and I punish myself because I've probably listened to it a thousand times.

Paul Carrack sang this song, the "Mike" in the band name comes from the guitarist. Not every time the lead singer is also the main part of the band name. Carrack also didn't sang all Mike + The Mechanics songs, by far not.

My relationship with my older brother was distant, similar to the lyrics of this song. And while it was my brothers choice to keep it distant, unfortunately he passed at 44 years of age before we were able to repair our relationship. I used the lyrics of this song to eulogize my brother at his funeral and tell a story of forgiveness. Our pastor later asked me to retell the story during one of his sermons. Afterwards, countless people told me how they were inspired not only by my story but the lyrics of the song to patch things up the broken relationships of their lives.

What a beautiful and touching presentation by such a wonderful group. It came from their hearts. My wife and I lost our dear son aged 50, from a massive heart attack in 2021.This song, "In the Living Years", has been a favourite of ours for many years. One blessing we have is to know we were the best of mates right up to the moment of his death, even as I was trying desperately to save him by doing CPR. But God has given grace through the tough times and the loving memories we have. We can never take for granted the importance of the living years God gives us. May God bless you all for this moving and beautiful video. Lyn and Narelle Lockrey, Australia.

This song hurts my heart my father was on his death bed and I didn’t have the time for him I wasn’t there when he passed we had a work relationship not a father son relationship how I miss not being able to tell him how much he meant to me I’ve tried to make it up to my mom who’s is now 90 and barely there mentally life is so so short don’t make my mistake tell them how much they mean to you before it’s to late.

This song hits very close to home. I am a US Army Vet and a retired Correctional officer. My son and I had a very big fallout and we have not spoken in 23 years. The hurt is unbearable. My life is coming to an end. I have prostate cancer and aortic aneurysm that could go at any moment. Just one time I would like to see him.

On September 20, 2017 this song came on as I was pulling out of the nursing home where my father was admitted only 4 days earlier. He was there to get stronger and come home again. He had passed away at 1:00am. When the verse “I wasn’t there that morning when my father passed away” played I had to pull over. I couldn’t stop sobbing. I cry every time I hear this song and I think of my father.

If that doesn't rip your heart out nothing will. I dreamed last night I was back in the hospital room with my Mom and it woke me up at 6:40 this morning I woke up crying with my hands around my throat but I'm the dream was trying to breath for Mom. My breaths were what kept her alive. I was shaken by the dream and how real it was and the fact I was acting it all out in real life tears and all. Don't think I'm ever going to forgive myself. We never got to say goodbye........ That's all I wanted was to get to say goodbye. My heart is ripped open.

I had many differences with my Dad, it wasn't until my 30s that i resolved them, sadly at 49 i lost him.i wish he was still here, i have so much more i want to say. This song made me resolve those issues and difficult times we had when i was a child wat back when this was released. Do it today, go see him, son or daughter go to him and sort it, then enjoy your time you both have left together. RIP DAD (John) Thanks BA Robertson (check the writers version) it was his experience in the lyrics he wrote. just copy and paste this (ba robertson living years above ) and also you will hear the name of the young babys real name from the song, and there is a surprize at the end of video(i wont tell you,it will spoil it), you think this version makes you cry watch this one the way it was meant to be.

I have very mixed beliefs, philosophies, & emotions when it comes to hospice. I don't believe in ever giving up, on either God or myself, and yet the philosophy of hospice seems to be to make a final surrender, which I will not accept. When my Mom got sick, I came to loathe hospice, as their representatives would circle my Mom's hospital bed like vultures. But I refused to give up on my Mom's healing, and I refused to allow the healthcare system to give up on her either, yet we ultimately lost our battle to keep her alive just several months later.
