It's been over 10 years since I made this short film and 10 years since seeing this making of. (not something easy to watch from my perp.) Not sure why I looked at it today, but I'm sooo filled with gratitude for having the opportunity to make this. Sooo grateful to everyone that embraced this film and I hope it continues to inspire and deliver love and peace in this world.

It's a very special piece, to me as an inspiration but more than that. I work with people who are diagnosed with autism with a normal or higher level of intelligence. They aspire work in or enjoy design in all shapes and forms, including animation. Your short film is still a huge inspiration to this day and I often use it to aspire these people, showing them what you can achieve in multimedia. So thank you from my own perspective and by extension the people I guide towards a better future.

Thankyou for making this masterpiece. I watched it first 10-11 years back when I used to be a part of the vfx industry, remember watching it on loop for a long time and today I somehow landed on this video again and it still blows my mind. So so beautiful

I am so glad I found this. I remember watching Thought of You for the first time around 2013, aged 11, in my school library, and being absolutely enchanted by the animation. However, someone had actually taken the video and set it to coldplay's gravity, and I don't remember there being credit. For years I thought it was just a fan-made animation, until the real Thought of You finally was recommended to me in 2020. I'm so glad I've got to find the real thing and hear the story behind it, it's so much better than I ever would have thought.

Thank you for this "making of" video! I don't remember how I first stumbled on "Thought of You" years ago, but it's always been a powerful piece to return to. I can't say that I can appreciate modern dance or art usually, but this piece always moves me every time I watch it. Even without facial expressions, I feel like the rawness of the characters contribute to the human emotion for me Thank you, Ryan, for making your art accessible on KZfaq and for staying true to your artistic instincts! I really love this piece, and wish you all the best with your art :)

the piece is stunningly beautiful and seems to speak to people on many different levels. It's like a timeless fairytale or fable, for me, it represents our individual longing and the struggle to pursue, to manifest, a dream but when it actualizes - we turn away.

I have watched this every day, many times over and over. If you've ever loved someone with bipolar, you might be moved by this the same way I am. It's simple, beautiful, and the choreography in drawn art takes me to a level that makes me feel understood...and even though It's not what inspired this song, I miss him when he wakes up and wishes he was dead. When he's not himself I wonder where he's gone in his head as our world spins madly on. Thank you Ryan for this beauty.

I saw the animation the first time a couple weeks ago and cried. I thought of my partner, our recent struggles, how much I loved her and the insatiable desire of both of us to be together despite everything. It reminded me of that fleeting nature of our relations, how they never stand still, ever changing, growing, flowing with the ebbs and tides of life. Thank you, thank you so much 🙏💙.

I have though for years that this is one of the most beautiful peaces of art that I have ever seen. In a few months I plan on making one of these stills my first tattoo. Seriously Ryan,, You're great. I want to move people like you with animation films like this. Currently at university studying animation illustration, and though I've learnt a few new things, my tutors just don't inspire me. At all... I'm also fond of the idea of collaborating dance with art because they're one and the same thing in different forms, yet my tutors don't seem to get it. And I watch this and I'm like jeeze... I want to be taught by this guy.

+Reechu Doodles Do you think Art school or being an Animation Major is worth it? Can you get the same skills without going to college for it? What about your tutors is uninspiring? What don't they seem to get? I'm sorry I have a lot of questions cause I'm thinking about my own future and I don't want to waste my parent's money and then have no job and be screwed. 1st 2 questions are most important.

Heya What I think, with any course, is if its something you really want to do then you'll do it and ofc you'll believe its worth doing. I study Animation Illustration in London Kingston. And I have learnt a lot of new things already. It all depends which area of art you want to pursue. Because there's architecture, fashion, interior design, graphic design, photography, moving images etc. So with any course, don't just choose something because you feel like it. You need to want to really do it. And every school is different. So do your research, go to open days, talk to students who are currently attending that school. And as for being inspired, I was a bit annoyed with one of my tutors when I had that little rant lol And the reason they don't get what I wanted to do was because it didn't fit the brief/module we were assigned. Well they didn't think so anyway. However, now planning my final major project for the end of first year and its open for me to put together myself. But I still go by wanting to be taught by Ryan. Because I'm such a fan girl haha I've enjoyed his work for years so... yuhhh.

I feel like I am lost right now. Trying to do a project for my academy and it's just so hard. Basic things are so hard to do. There is really no one who can teach me to animate and I can't even afford a good drawing pad but I have this burning tearing desire to animate. To be like you and so many like you. And the desire suffocates me. And this video makes me cry because I just want to try so hard.

As always, looks great! I agree, I prefer hand-drawing over CG. Going forward, with touch interfaces, I think we'll see a new generation of Artist who to draw on their devices, or write cursive as schools stop teaching cursive, and continue to blend tech with the arts. But still, I prefer pen & paper. I personally have been going back and forth between 3D, drawing on ipads, or the cintiq, or old fashion pen & ink. But still pen & ink is my favorite medium. Anyways, great work, hope to see more. ~/JOsH

Wow. thank you so much for posting this and fir making the video all togather. i think i saw it about 20 time since i first ran into it. i got to see so many different ideas about what is actualy going on in the video that are influented but every individual's expirence in life. some thought and she is stealing his life force (and that's why he is left so bare at the end) and some thought that he is a jurk for leaving her. i never saw a video doing something like that. i know it thouched many people around the world. that part where i saw real life dancers doing the bit, broke me and i started to cry again. so moving. thank you for this it was wonderfull to see how it was created from a proffeional point of view, but mostly- from your personal point of view.
