@@locusstandi8329 The last time the stick method was used on an island neighbour, was Sri Lanka in the 1980s... where India trained Tamil insurgents during the beginning of the Sri Lankan civil war, and then ended up having to fight them in the late 1980s. Not only did this backfire massively, an Indian Prime Minister (Rajiv Gandhi) was assassinated by the same insurgents his mother had trained and equipped, and India went bankrupt in 1991. The long-term problem this caused, was Sri Lankans being suspicious of Indians.

Searching of fishing vessels is regularly done. Some days before Iranian fishing boat was hijacked by pirates with Pakistani crew were rescued by Indian Navy. This was followed by a huge drug bust in the Arabian sea. The issue started with the current Presidents rabid Anti India stance after he won on India out campaign. Half of the Maldives population voted for this hate monger. He want to bring in Chinese military to satisfy his ego and hatred towards Indians.

Palki, Enough of the diplomatic language. (1) Call Muizzu and his followers out as religious bigots, just as they are. (2) Your commentary sounds as if the Indian military actually had a "military" presence with strategic military intentions. That has never been the case. They were in Maldives as trained operators of Emergency Rescue services. (3) Seizing fishing boats etc. are first signs of escalation by the Maldives. Jaishankar's narrative is not worth the paper it is written on. (4) There is very little India can do diplomatically. (5) The Indian government can work towards bolstering the political opposition to Muizzu, with hopes of toppling his government. The chances are very slim as the Maldivian population is also anti India based simply on their religious beliefs. (6) Indians and others who understand the dynamics should boycott the Maldives because of their fanaticism. There are many amazing beach destinations is SE Asia, e g. Sri Lanka, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Philippines, India, Malaysia etc. which are far superior and a lot more affordable than the unnecessarily expensive Maldives.

Bring back all Indians doing maintenance work on the assets provided by India such as helicopters and boats to the Maldives. Cease all trade supplies and seize any fishing trawler of either Maldivian or Chinese origin coming anywhere close to our EEZ. These maldivians elected Muizzu because they were convinced that China and not India was the better alternative for them.

I don't see it as help.. India just gave SL a mere 4 billion credit line, which SL has to be paid back.. It was also done to benefit INdia.. Because SL is a big market for India's agri produce, vehicle parts and Sri Lankans are one of the largest tourist groups to INdia.. SO India wanted SL to come out of the crisis to benefit its own economy.. During the peak times of SL economy, they also funded toilet fund in India.. Mainly the pilgrims going to India helped built houses and toilets in Bihar etc. So a 'loan' in crisis cannot be termed as an act of kindness

India appears to be a generous & helpful neighbour. Because India does not support terrorism, the Maldives decided to 'replace' benevolent Indian friendship with dictatorial expansionist Chinese "friendship". This is just politics. If the Maldives were really concerned they would have criticised the Chinese for their Uigur (anti Muslim) policies. India is truly benevolent - if it was not, there would be NO Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka even Afghanistan (or Maldives). India would claim that they are all part of 'historical Bharat' & take control of them all forcing them to all speak the same language & be on the same time zone! Sounds familiar? Yeah that’s what China would do! India is different - it was (arguably) the Worlds first multicultural melting pot, where everyone works toward collective goals, granted a little haphazardly, but it is a democracy and that is democracy is about.

fact is today's Maldivans are too educated and live in an open world that their old local politicians cannot lecture or controll them, today's Maldives generation is an investment of last 50yrs , wherever u look u can see young and educated people in their 40s, wether its parliament or cabinet or judicial or government or business sector, Muizz is 45 yrs old and his VP is much younger than him ! average age of PARLIAMENT MPs are in their 40s. especially in presidential elections they take decisions that they think the best for their country. in 2018 they voted to out a China friendly government & 5yrs later they voted against an India friendly administration. Maldivians always ! always balance the power and foreign policy when ever they feel if any government goes too far with any side. or they will get close to a third party to balance the power , they have been playing the same card for many years since portuguese invaded Maldives in 1550s.

Instead of giving free money to the neighbors, the Indian government should focus on the Indian citizen in India first. The neighbors are cashing India because they know they can play India-China game to get money from both. I see lack of vision and strategy on the Indian side.
