Gone too soon. This film details the incredible story of how Kev Wilson, a young man dubbed for greatness, gave up carp fishing in what felt like the blink of an eye. Growing up in Leicester, his aspirations were never to chase the UK’s biggest and best carp, but his carp-catching ability and love for fishing soon saw him grow into the epitome of a big carp bounty hunter. Kev fished flat out for a number of years, catching nigh on every single carp he ever fished for, before his jump from grace at the pinnacle of the big carp scene. Nowadays, he doesn’t own a single item of fishing tackle, all that’s left is two photo albums full of carp. So, what changed? Why did he give it all up? That’s exactly what we wanted to find out.

I retired from carp fishing about 10 years ago - after living the “dream” for nigh on 25 years. They were fantastic days (and nights) and I have no regrets; it gets into your blood and becomes a way of life. Then, suddenly you question it and it’s all over ! I still love fishing occasionally but the thought of bivvying up in freezing conditions and being woken by a bite at 5am seems more like torture now. Funny how things change but they inevitably do.

The guy saw the light... it's only a fish! I watch a few guys that have made a name and living out of carp, and I really wonder if they enjoy the situation they have put them selves in. Writing books, making vlogs, doing shows and all that shit surly is not what it's about. Carp fishing has gone down the same road as everything else.... MONEY! and I'm sorry to say you all took the bait.

Most men do not have a clue that all they're doing that makes fishing feel so good is having a clear goal. If they gave the same treatment to life you could be the star role in a fantastic story. YOUR LIFE!

Best thing that happened to me after 20 plus years of carp obsession was getting out on the rivers with my mate Richard Garner catching Barbel and Chub. Without that I doubt I'd still be fishing. I'm starting to feel the pull of big carp fishing again but the modern scene isn't very alluring.

Good interview! In some cases carp fishing can become a vehicle for addictive traits to manifest themselves. It's something that probably should be highlighted more, the impact that being obsessive about fishing can have on relationships, finances and physical and mental health.

Same thing happened to me in 2000 followed my dream and signed for Nash Baits as a bait and tackle tester and consultant. 10 years of full time cost me my marriage so I quit angling in 2010. Wind forward to 2020 I’ve started again but with a healthy balance

He comes across as a bit of an unhappy man. He doesn’t talk fondly of his carp days and has no enthusiasm now he’s stopped.

Some people cannot balance things when they are addicted to it. Carp fishing can become very addictive to people who have certain mentality nothing else matters life revolves around it. There's worse things to be addicted to like a woman or drugs or alcohol...any addiction is unhealthy.

Even for most anglers it takes it's toll being away from family when all they see is not having time with you . That's why I invested in double gear so my lady and kids can come with me whenever they feel like

Watched the video found it hard work really. Fair play to what he had caught but wouldn’t say the interview was worth watching he seemed like he couldn’t be arsed with the whole thing. 4-5 sentences was the most you got out of the fella.

Shame, maybe if he'd fished for all that swam rather than carp he'd still be fishing

I agree. The only people i ever see giving up fishing are those that hunt for only big carp so they can get the renown and their pictures everywhere. The thought of ever giving it up is abhorent to me. Its in my blood. Still happy to catch roach or gudgeon.
