It looks like his anxiety over his initial debts was greater. He's extremely confident - with some reason, too - but most importantly, he knows how to keep people happy and make them feel seen, heard and looked after. That boosts his confidence. (It's gotta be so exhausting to do that.)

The problem is that they were victims of their own greed. Investing is a very bullish business. That's how we lost half our homes in America during 2008-2009 by aggressively trading and using their homes as collateral. The banks were bailed out and homeowners lost their shirts.

I thought it was because of collataralized debt obligations, mortgage traunches being full of B rated loans, and median home prices being inflated from pieces of shit like myself slinging refi’s and wrap around ARMs. But hey what do I know? I just lived & worked it. 🤷🏼‍♂️😂

I'd argue that they were victims of someone else's greed, not their own. Pre-GFC investors were sold products whose risk was misrepresented (or were non-existent in Versalko's case), and sub-prime borrowers were set up to fail. All of this was done by greedy bankers.

Narcissistic ego-maniac on a power trip. Sex, money and greed. What a self feeding loop. Good documentary. I hope all of those scammed were reimbursed by the bank. Banks need to run credit checks, annually, on their agents and list those who are compliant and strike-off those who are not.

A word to the wise. Watch out for easy promises and friendly faces. A professional financial planner or advisor will always tell you to take your time and will provide all of the information up front regarding risk. Why do people keep falling for this stuff? Depend less on the personality and more on the track record and do your homework too. The best will tell you the same.

Hmmmmm. A very charismatic and well spoken person who comes off credible offers dream like investments. People that have a bit more money than socioeconomically middle class seem to be more apt to believe the "wonderful" investment vehicles Steven was offering. I can't help but feel that his victims fell prey to their own greed and naivete. I guess I'm textbook victim blaming but I can't help but think, were they that shocked when they found out they were bilked out of their investments? Rolling it over year after year and it's always good news?

Versalko got off very easy IMO. Our own con artist, Melissa Caddick, disappeared leaving nothing but a decomposing foot in a running shoe. The coroner pronounced her dead but was unable to speculate on how she died. Police are also unable to determine how she seems to have evaded CCTV footage despite leaving home on foot in a heavily populated suburb in Sydney. The jig was up - the feds had raided her home - but If it was suicide, it was a doozy. Jumping from the cliffs is hardly novel, but relying on a shark to neatly sever a foot while devouring the rest of the body is sheer criminal genius ;) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melissa_Caddick
