G.K. Chesterton was a brilliant novelist, poet, short story writer, biographer and Catholic apologist. The Man Who Was Thursday is his most famous work, being not a only a gripping spy thriller, but a statement of Chesterton's personal philosophy.
Logan Albright is a writer, economist, musician, occultist, and all around interesting guy living and working in Washington, DC. In his spare time, he reads lots of books and reviews them.

Just started the book and wanted a little overview of what the book contains - without spoilers. Thank you for your excellent comments!

I'm an English teacher in France and the review you did on Mary Shelley has helped me a lot with my literary lesson, lately. Thank you.

If he were alive today he would not be a libertarian, a conservative, a liberal, or an anarchist... he would most assuredly be a Catholic first and foremost.

Interesting book, haven’t heard of the author before. Currently reading Either/Or and A History Of Christianity, the first to three thousand years. Will check this book out.

Thanks for keeping it general and leaving all the surprises for the reader I hate when a review ruins a feeling of self discovery in a book Haha

Thanks for the review. I just finished the book, I was not sure I understood what the meaning of it was/is. Your review helped. I really enjoyed reading it, very engaging.

Personally, I loved the ending (indeed, it was my favorite part of the book), but I know that many people would have preferred something different. If you haven't already, I recommend listening to Orson Welles' radio dramatization of "The Man Who Was Thursday" (with Welles playing the role of Gabriel Syme) which he did with the Mercury Theatre on the Air, just a couple months before his famous "War of the Worlds" broadcast. BTW, in the very first chapter of the very first book written by F. Scott Fitzgerald ("This Side of Paradise"),the protagonist is said to have read "The Man Who Was Thursday", with the added comment "which he liked without understanding". (Also interesting: Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett dedicated their novel "Good Omens" to Chesterton, and according to Gaiman in an interview somewhere they did it because they felt on a fundamental level, they were doing "The Man Who Was Thursday". Not having read their novel, I cannot comment on what exactly Gaiman meant, but I wanted to add that piece of trivia.)

I actually have a huge collection of old Orson Welles radio dramas and have heard his version of this! And Good Omens is excellent.

I just picked up the book, older edition 1986...does it matter which edition you get would it be more interesting than others edition??

It doesn’t really matter. The text is the same. It’s just a matter of preference between hardback and paperback, the cover art you like, and the quality of the paper and binding. I personally really love these Penguin editions but I don’t think they are available anymore.

It is also a strategy deployed by graffiti artists. If you do out in the open people think you have permission

When you are recording... please maintain eye contact with the lenses. It is very distracting to watch your eyes dart all over the place.
