I was 12 years old in summer of 86 and attended the Bobby Robson football school about 1 month after the World Cup. Hodge came in as a guest on one of the days and brought Maradona’s shirt with him. He passed it around the squad so we all got a chance to hold it and take a close look. That’s a memory that stayed with me from my childhood football days and has been refreshed as a fond memory since the passing of the Genius Diego. Thanks for that memory Steve and thanks for your years at my home club, NFFC, playing under another of the few football geniuses, Mr. Clough.

I'm sure I remember seeing the Bobby Robson Football School advertised back in the 1980s! As for Hodge, how ironic that he who made the dodgy backpass/flick-up now stands to profit handsomely to the tune of about £7m!

Maradona - greatest player ever. He carried two average Argentina teams in 86 & 90 to the world cup final. Even Pele has not done that. That is why Diego is the greatest player to lace up a pair of boots.

I was almost 11 in 86....as a kid, we all gathered at the local cafe to watch all the games and then play all day late into the night....to do it all over the next day.....we all wanted to emulate Maradona and all other great players of the tournament....it doesn't feel the same with all these new world cups where money has taken so much from that unconditional passion for the game...I remember playing the game was far more important than any money that could come from it....I got to see the greatest goal live on tv with my friends and yell at the top of my lungs, pure joy....that was an awesome summer...

Many great and not so great players who graced the same pitch as him are always in awe of what he was able to do and have the utmost respect for him. Yes he scored one handball but that will never tarnish the genius he had and the fact he was kicked all over the pitch by players who got away with murder back in the day. For me there were 2 days that brought great sadness to the game. The first when he retired knowing his genius would never be seen in professional football again and the second was his death knowing that his passion for the game had left this earth forever. RIP

The hypocrisy from some of these English players and English commentators is just unbelievable. During this game, Hodges punched Maradona in the face and knocked him to ground. @@paullahori7133Dude, every team did that to Maradona, did you see what Italy did to him? Even in today's softer game, with all the protection in the world, Bellingham is getting kicked all over the place in La LIga right now; he's statistically the most fouled player. When a team has a player that can win a game by himself, every other team will target him. Also, nobody in England 'ignored' his 2nd goal, in fact, people still talk about it to this day. You can't just make up sh*t. And BTW, had an English player punched the ball in the net to knock them out of a World Cup, do you seriously believe Argentinian fans wouldn't have complained about it? Not to mention the most blantant foul on Hoddle you'll ever see, right before Maradona received the ball for his 2nd "legitimate" goal. With VAR, neither of those goals would've counted, and you know full well that if it was the other way around, the Argentina fans would still be moaning about it to this day. You're absolutely delusional.

Argentina did not have an away outfit adequate for the warm summer weather so Bilardo' s staff actually fetched all over Mexico City for alternative shirts made with lighter fabrics. They ended up with these shirts, with shinny numbers used in American football actually ironed on she shirts a few hours before the games. If you look closely at the photos you will notice that the AFA patches were poorly hand-sewed. Check this videos that tells the history of this shirt; even if you don't understand the Spanish, the images of the ladies making the shirts the night before the game are worth it: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fa1_oq2buLHMiH0.html

@budfr No, no no, budfr, that is not the right story. They did not have blue shirts to play England because they had exchanged their only blue shirts with Uruguay in the previous match; not because they were dirty; that is the reason. When Le Coq Sportif came with a last minute replacement of blue shirts, they were too warm for the Mexican weather; so they went out to purchase anything they could find in the Mexican market. Please see the following links ,with actual footage of the ladies sewing the shirts, and interviews to Ruggeri, Bilardo, etc. ): kzfaq.info/get/bejne/i69_YLul3py1gJs.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fa1_oq2buLHMiH0.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jZahppik0LXYmY0.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/opuprc50ztO2kZs.html

As to who's the GOAT,Pele or Maradona? There are pros and cons to each.I've always thought it was Pele, but when you look at what D.M. did, taking a team in Napoli, which were nobodies and considered unclean dogs by the big Italian clubs, to the greatest heights in Italian football has to mean something. The only knock I'd have is that he only scored about 34 goals in 91 appearances for Argentina. But then again,it's when you score them is what counts.

When Pele played he was surrounded by great players including '58, '62, and '70 (best ever team). Pele never carried his teams on his own plus he never played in Europe. So he played in a much inferior Brazilian league most of his career. Also when Pele played the game was very slow compared to when Maradona played. There is no way Pele would have carried those two Argentinian teams on his own ('86 and '90). The only reason people say he is considered the best player of all time is because of the FIFA B/S run in the past by two of the most corrupt presidents Joao Havalange (Brazilian ) and Sepp Blatter. He had nowhere Maradona's ability. Even a lot of Brazilians think that Garrincha was a better player than Pele.

Wow you own the shirt of Maradona?! Can I try it on??? ... No it's mine... ... Okay, can we show it on camera then? ... No, if people know I have it they might try and steal it from me. ... Okay can I at least have a look at it? ... D'ya know what, that's enough questions about the shirt. Let's just do the interview. R.I.P. Maradona ⚽ 🇦🇷

Hodge is totally on the button. Pele couldn't do what Maradona did especially with the quality of his teammates.
