I was so disappointed in this “bible.” It is incoherent, inappropriate, and needs to be pulled from production. It takes a lot for me to give a review this negative. I mean, this is really a big nothing burger. I'm not saying that to attack you or anything like that, but this type of manga isn't really intended for children. The Bible, as you know, has plenty of mature themed content. A true Bible, graphic novel, or manga, should be intended for more mature audiences. There are plenty of watered-down ones for kids, I honestly am waiting for a true graphic novel of the Bible that can compete with mainstream comics.

Interesting bit: in trying to "dig deeper" (translation: go through Wikipedia) on this, it comes out that . . . it's not actually Japanese. The artist "Siku" is a British-Nigerian author who may be better known for work on 2000 AD and Judge Dredd. The artwork and aesthetic of this particular work may be inspired/influenced by Japanese manga, but it did not actually originate from there.

I just don't see any of the drawings as problems. David watched her bathe, she obviously would've been nude. Any other recreation of the story would just be wrong. The Bible is an adult book, any recreation of the story should be told as such.

The only inappropriate thing i could see in this manga bible was the Bathsheba part, everything else i feel you are overreacting a bit. Like just showing a female face is seductive?? Just because she is drawn to be attractive that doesn't make her seductive, that is a weird thing to say like what? also having a woman with an hourglass figure which is normal btw is not inappropriate. I get the last part that was the only thing sus about this. Also the artist is not japanese.

Theres litterally nothing wrong with asscracks cuz we were all born naked and body comes in all shapes and sizes, so i personally dont take that as a problem. While lust is a huge struggle i think that we should train our eyes to not view these things in a lustful way. As someone who learnt drawing through manga, i can assure you that its just like drawing a human body, with its curves and crevices. And the language isnt all that bad. But then hey, you do whats best for you cuz its great that u wanna look out for your son. I do agree its definetly made for a more mature audience, but its definitely not lustful as we percieve it to be. It just depends on how strong you are to shake off temptations. I grew up reading manga, hence why i dont usually get aroused by the art style of it. And manga art style was never really based for children, it only started adapting more innocent art styles like chibi to cater to the innocent younger audience. I guess thats the thing with manga, you gotta expect it to be more 'raw'

While I get the concern. I think this would be great to have. It shows the scripture in an uncensored way. I mean, Adam and Eve were nude and most likely didn't have leaves covering their privates. Someone in their older teens or 20s who can control themselves would be good.

I have to be honest, I have read this Manga in my home several times and I honestly never felt the sexual parts. I was too intrigued in the story that those details pretty much where never seen by me.

Imagine if they made the song of solomon into a manga 👀

Seems like your issue with this Bible adaptation is that it adapts the Bible, no? Should large chunks of the Bible be censored just because Christians have become too sensitive for it? It's not a path I would like to go down.

I hate when they put nudity and language in things...it is always unnecessary, will prevent me from getting whatever it is, and in a Bible, it is an egregious problem.

Honestly, it looks low quality too. There are so many other comic books about the bible that have such a high quality - go for the Action Bible or the Manga Messiah instead.

My eyes were certainly opened with this review, Pastor Tim. I didn’t even know what Manga was - never heard of it. Showing my age definitely. Thank you for calling out issues with this. It will be interesting to see whether the publisher pulls it. 😊

It's just a book, like the bible is just a comic to some. Neither good or bad. But certainly poor "manga" art illustrations.

Wow. That is pretty upsetting. And yes you are correct. I did not expect to ever hear butt crack in a nickels worth video. This is so sad, what a missed opportunity to make a manga Bible that kids would be excited to read.

While we know the Bible isn’t just rainbows and butterflies, there’s no need to include visual stumbling blocks for young people. There’s light years of difference between there mere words “Adam and his wife were both naked. They didn’t feel any shame.” and giving a detailed picture to gaze at.

What if i cross out the curse words and blur the nudity? I cant afford buying al ot the manga bible books.
