Kenny James birthday is literally tomorrow, so the timing of this video could've never been perfect.

His recording session was brutal, but I guess he's ok. He did not voice any complaint.

And to this day, I wonder how Samantha didn't destroy her voice with Toad but Kenny did with Meowser.

If Nintendo ever brings back Meowser again, I hope they just reuse the old voice clips, or give Kenny James a raise!

The fact that Toad's VA never lost her voice but Bowser's VA already did is just plain ironic in my opinion.

You should see what happened to Jeremy Irons when he was singing Be Prepared as Scar. When he screamed YOU WON'T GET A SNIFF WITHOUT ME he threw out his voice completely and Jim Cummings filled in for the rest of it!

Kenny James had my heart for that dedication, This reminds me of what happened with My hero academia. The 5th season was delayed after Bakugo’s Japanese VA had to have emergency throat surgery due to his character having to scream so much. His character is known for screaming and yelling. This guy is also a singer. Luckily, the va recovered and is able to scream and sing again.

Man, there's always something so sad to me about voice actors in particular going through hell. I guess because, obviously in something like a long running animated show or game series, you hear them so much, and you can sometimes notice their voice changing or deteriorating over long periods of time. And you kind of realize that the original performances you fell in love with can't really be replicated again, making them feel all the more special. I don't know if anyone else feels this way, but man, the things some people do for our entertainment, I really respect it.

I've lost my voice for months before. Started after a performance of 21st century cure at my musical theatre society, but whether or not the two are related, as that only kinda knocked it scratchy while the (pre-covid) infection and what terned out to be GERD that came in after that definitely took it out of commission. I will definitely toot my own horn in the fact that I absolutely nailed that performance.

Hey! Im a voice actor student in Italy, and I can guarantee you, for many voice actors, the biggest achievements come from surpassing your own limits with your voice! Little trivia: the voice actor for Chris Pratt is Andrea Mete, he is incredibly talented and voiced also Reiner Braun, but in the movie Mario will be voiced by Claudio Santamaria who gave the voice to Batman in The Dark Night Trilogy while Peach will be voiced by Valentina Favazza, one of our best voice actress ever

I remember hearing this story at his Too Many Games panel, and I remember something he said at the end: That when Charles Martinet recorded lines for Cat Mario, Nintendo had him come back and re-record them, while Kenny's Meowser was great on the first try. So Kenny had the last laugh lol

I can only congratulate James for his determination and bravery in playing Bowser. Even more for the fact, that even with how he gruesomely tore his throat by playing Meowser, he went over with it and still goes on his quest with Bowser. I just hope he wasn't forced to repeat this slaughterhouse of his throat for the game's remake for Switch, famous of the Bowser's Fury mode. So, Happy Yesterday Birthday, mr. James! You're doing a great job as Bowser! As of you Tom, another great video of yours, even if I got goosebumps of hearing how James bloodily hurt his throat. Since you're on your way with the evolutions of characters' voices, maybe the next episode of this series you could dedicate on changes in the voice of Ashley from WarioWare? This character also went through few voice actresses, so maybe it's worth giving a story? Keep it going!

I was sick with a bad throat on top of that, but I was destroying my voice that entire day. From screaming into a microphone way to loudly and gravelly, to wheezing too hard for my own good; two days after that, my vocal cords were so messed up that I couldn’t even speak properly. And all of that was very recent.

The human larynx is delicate but surprisingly resilient. Vocalists often injure themselves in performance or practice (due to bad technique or pushing the limits of human voice). I’ve rehearsed with poor technique and lost my voice. Also, the singing voice tends to heal rather slowly, unfortunately. If you get sick and lose your voice, it may take several weeks to get it back to normal.

I told you people that it hurts Kenny James’ voice when performing as Bowser. I had actually heard this story before somewhere but I can’t remember exactly where.

If I made this game, O'd just use recordings of various big cats (most commonly tiger roars, but maybe put a few jaguar or leopard recordings in there) for Meowser.

I can kinda relate to Kenny here. I used to volunteer at a haunted house, and one year I decided my character needed a deep growling voice. So I did one for hours and was absolutely tasting blood by the end of the night. But instead of learning my lesson I did it all again the next day too 😭 Long story short I permanently damaged my vocal chords. My voice is noticeably deeper now than it was before. That being said I kept on volunteering there for years and doing the voice became my signature thing, and it never bothered me again 😊

Y'all should hear the story of how Justin Roiland nearly completely destroyed his entire voice box by voicing multiple Lemongrabs in Adventure Time in one session. The dude had to speak through a text to speech robot for like a month
