@@devonajohnson280 It used to be kidnapped=marriage and there not to far apart during those times and hades shared power with her the only person's to do so and it was also started by Zeus aka Persephone father so if anything it's an arrange marriage and they didn't clean hades image up since underworld=hell and Satan even tho it's not in Greek mythology. So if Hera would have basically stood her ground and made him stay a bird for the rest of his life in a little cage then women would have more equality and basic rights across the globe today? And if the lazy nymph wouldn't have made Hermes pay for all those hotel rooms all the other times they hooked up maybe he would have been nicer about the whole house and oversleeping thing cause no one had invented the alarm clock and I guess not everyone had roosters.🤷♀️ And she couldn't have been that lazy, maybe just slow, cause she beat the hare in the race thingy. Unless by that time she had been transformed into the hare and that's why the hare fell asleep mid race, but the tortoise kept going? 🤷♀️ who knows.

Yeah i find this story with a lot of holes since hermes is the son of hera
@fist-of-doom4873 жыл бұрын
Because it’s mythology. Theirs several different versions of almost every story. Theirs not a single canon telling and so you can accept whichever one you want. This version was the one where none of that’s true. Hera is not related to Hermès or Zeus in this telling of events. Just like Zagreus who is an actual God yet almost nothing is known about him other than being the God of Rebirth and the son of Persephone. In one of the few writings we can find he’s the son of Persephone and Zeus, in another the son of Persephone and Hades, in some Zagreus is just another name Dionysus takes. Their is no canon

You see this is why things are so complicated. Hermes is younger than Apollo and Artemis. And they were all supposedly born after Hera and Zeus were married which is why Hera doesn’t like them or their mothers very well.

Actually Hera likes Hermes (no idea about his mom) but does dislike Apollo, Artemis and Leto.

@@TerrickTerran If by "likes Hermes" you mean that she never paid him any kind of negative attention, I suppose you're right. Still, it's not like she ever paid positive attention to him either, she just ignored him the way she ignored 90% of the children of Zeus.

List your sources please, because I’ve never heard this version before and I want to read it!

I'd say this is a retelling somewhat based on various myths that aren't actually connected (one is Greek while one is Roman) rather than an accurate rendering of an ancient story. You definitely won't find it related this way in any ancient Greek text.

Servius, On Virgil's Aeneid 1. 505 (Roman grammarian C4th A.D.) : "For his wedding with Juno [Hera], Jupiter [Zeus] ordered Mercurius [Hermes] to invite all the gods, the men and the animals to the wedding. Everyone invited by Mercurius [Hermes] came, except for Chelone who did not deign to be there, mocking the wedding. When Mercurius noticed her absence, he went back down to the earth, threw in the river the house of Chelone that was standing over the river and changed Chelone in an animal that would bear her name. Chelone is said testudo (tortoise) in Latin."

Hera is Zeus’ sister wife. That definitely wouldn’t be the first time they’d met

Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honor to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.
