Part One: Hi: My 2006 Polaris Ranger XP 700 emergency brake was shot, absolutly no more adjustment left. I figured out a way to add a shim washer and get one more adjustment out of the worn out brake pads.

thank you, great video. my shop wanted $250 for parts and $100 labor to replace the whole unit, told me there was no other option. found new Polaris pads on eBay for $30 + 15mins of work. easy, even for a novice like me.

Thank you for the great video. I dropped in new pads but it just wasn't enough to do the trick. Still alot of play. Now I know exactly what to do to improve the design.

want to say things i saw here helped me alot when i done my first time end to end maintance. front an rear grease an oil change replace a bad axel an all the rear end A arm bushings.

I went to the auto parts store and bought a set of disc brake pads for a car that were similar to the factory ranger pads and i used the ranger pads for a pattern drilled the holes in them and installed on ranger works 10 times better than factory it will hold on any hill with a full load of firewood and the automotive pads are wearing a lot better!

Just found this video. Thanks for the help. BYW, I installed a piezo uzzer to the ebrake light and now we wont be driving with the parking brake on!

To correct the problem of the pads wearing out all the time, Highlifter sells a kit to swap from the stock E-brake pads to brass pads. They are supposed to last way longer than the stock pads. I'm installing one today. Will post an update on how it works out.

I got them for my 2005 Diesel Ranger. The old pads were shot and the dealer said the brass ones where the best thing to go with. Well, even with the cable adjusted all the way out, it's barely enough to hold the machine. Easily can drive with the brake on and not feel it. Guess I need to pull it back apart and put a washer. I was actually searching for specs on the disc thickness when this video came up.

@@Kerosene_Stream When I installed my brass pads I put it back to what I thought was the factory washers and it ended up working out well. I have good e-brake now and also lots of room for adjustment before I need to start adding washers again. Other times when I have adjusted it with the factory pads I have ended up pulling it out and adding or removing washers several times until I had it right. I guess I got lucky this time. It helps a lot with adjustment to make sure everything is very clean and just put a dot of grease on each ball bearing. I haven't driven it yet with the new pads as we are up to our arses in snow here but am hopping that I will be able to go for a couple of seasons now without having to mess with it again.

Carquest blue pads,I think they were off a small GM car I can't remember which one I used a cut-off wheel to trim them up so they would be same size as the ranger pads,I sold my ranger a couple of months ago and they were still on it and working good

The emergency brake on this UTV is between the transfer case and the differential. It gets worn out when I drive with it on. The OEM brakes are so weak that I can not tell when they are on.

That ell work.. what brand make roof and back window you have there? The only thing I can find is the entire cab less doors or soft top and back window.

That is a Curtis ROPS cab. I bought through the Polaris dealer. I do not know if they make it anymore.

I've watched this video several times but my problem is on my 04 ranger 500 its not located where yours is. Mine goes straight to the rear brakes. Any advice on how to adjust or do i need new brake pads?

Very often there is an adjusting BOLT on the lever at the rear caliper where the brake cable attatches to.....Loosen the lock nut on this bolt and turn it in clockwise.

i put a peice of masking tape over the three ball bearings to keep them in place during assembly. it will wear off later.

Just out of curiosity;are the ebrake pads the same brake pads that stop the rear diff when you apply the foot brake?? Otherwise,I'm left wondering how would one wear out a set of pads for a parking brake...

Why not just buy new brake pads unless your flat broke 😜

This was meant as a quick fix to keep the e-brake working while waiting for parts. But I was annoyed at how quickly the pads wear out (low quality) and how overpriced they are. In another video, I made semi-metallic e-brake pads that worked better and lasted 10 times longer than OEM pads. After 11 years, they finally wore out and I think I will make another set using ceramic pads.
