The villain is a Kree. The tie in is that the Kree are who have been hunting Skrulls (Captain Marvel). Ronan (Guardians of the Galaxy Villain)was a Kree. I believe he was related to the villain of this movie as well. Don't know if you watched Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, but they dealt with the Kree as well. Comic book backstory: The Celestials (Guardians of the Galaxy 2-Ego) (The Eternals). They went through the universe and experimented with beings to make them more powerful. The Kree was a lower life people that the Celestials upgraded. The Celestials ended up with 2 kinds of results. Their first run at it was so their creations could take out Apex predators on the planets they were to experiment on...only their creations ( which looked deformed like monsters and creepy) were called Deviants. Then the Celestials made more powered people with a different dna strand and they became Eternals, who looked more human/humanoid. They hunted the Apex Deviants down. The earth Descendants of those two types of super beings have dormant X genes that usually manifests itself in the "mutant" until puberty, exposure to gamma radiation and usually a traumatic experience to jolt their powers to the surface. My theory is that the Hulk has the X gene of a Deviant and his cousin maybe from an Eternal. He accidentally mixed his blood with hers and that changed what she was supposed to turn into. She ended up a Hulk instead. But her X gene blood sample helped him heal, so I think she's a hybrid maybe...?🤷🏾‍♀️ Once the Kree felt themselves a superior race, they started experimenting on other beings, themselves. They were ruthless and savage. Fast forward millions of years later and the Empire has been shook by Captain Marvel, who told the Kree villain (Jude Law) deliver a message that she was coming to take down their rule. Now Ronan's kin, in this movie, is wanting revenge on what "way of life" she thinks Carol destroyed. From what it seems to me of the trailer.

If you didn't know, this movie is directed by Nia DaCosta, who has already established herself as a cinematic and creative director. It is also written by Megan McDonnell and Elissa Karasik. Megan McDonnell has worked on 9 episodes of WandaVision, and Elissa Karasik has worked on 6 episodes of Loki. These two writers come from two of the most popular Marvel Studios TV shows. The cinematography is done by Sean Bobbitt, who also filmed '12 Years a Slave.' With all this talent involved, this movie should be big! I have high expectations.

Look, we are WAY TOO SERIOUS these days. These are Marvel films. We don't have to get bent out of shape over comic book movies which are meant to be fun and for adults who are still a kid at heart. If you want mature films with serious storylines--- watch movies like Oppenheimer, Schindler's List, Shawshank Redemption, Gandhi, etc. I asked an 8 year old child the other day about movies like this and he said "They're cool. I like the fight scenes." He doesn't care much about serious plots. He just wants to see the good guys beat the bad guys. I asked him about "generic" villains and he didn't care whether they were generic or larger than life. The point is... give him a superhero movie where good overcomes obstacles and evil and he's good to go. For those who say "Well, these movies must have layers of complexity and plot lines". No, comic book hero movies don't. How many of you watched Bugs Bunny cartoons when you were growing up? They were looney, crazy and fun. Most kids loved it when they watched them. Find the kid in your heart and just enjoy these films. If not... STOP WATCHING THE MCU and DC and start watching important films like "Dead Poets Society" (a great movie by the way)
