It’s hard to NOT recognize their voices, if you’re familiar with the band. I can pick out who’s singing throughout each song. As always, they’re great.

I think they were- that might have contributed to them not winning. The producers would want more mystery surrounding the winner.

I fully agree with you on this one. The Judges may have known all along but wanted them to last to the end. I knew it was them as soon as they opened their voices! I can remember yelling at my TV "Oh Come On Really" to each ridiculous guess the judges made.

Not that distinct, but because it's 5 yes, make you think of groups. They also play dumbo sometimes, ironical esp for the easy ones, show wouldn't be fun of everyone guessed fame answer forst round

Had they went true a cappella, they woulda been outed real quick imo. But somewhere in the harmonies of the second song I realized it was Pentatonix and I’m not even that familiar with them.

they weren't playing to their strongest strengths, like kept Mitch especially in the background, also relied on instrumental backup which kind of dulls the harmonies.

Scott and Mitch, and Kirstie all have extremely recognizable voices b/c they take the majority of the leads in the songs they sing (plus being accapella makes you recognize the voices more imo). If they wanted any chance of not immediately being recognized, they should have had Scott and Kevin sing the leads. They also have amazing voices but because of their positions in the band they don't the leads that often. But in any case, they killed it xD I've been a fan since The Sing Off, they do amazing and rearranging songs like this

@@landobluThat’s what I was thinking, too. I can spot Scott’s voice and range anywhere. Kevin and Matt might’ve been a mystery as long as Matt didn’t go into his lowest register ❤ that would’ve been a quick giveaway 😉 They are amazing

Kind of hard to take the show seriously if they didn’t win, are you kidding me. Is Pentatonix more successful than all those judges that are singers, I think it’s likely.

Yeah the integrity has kept going down with this every season. So many times you think it’s gotta either be fixed voting on some or the person was only contracted for a certain number of episodes as worse singers get through over better ones

Accapella making arrangements would seriously be so so different if ptx never existed. I cant think accapella without thinking about them. They’re a DOMINANT group in the industry I’m so glad I found them way back in the sing off days been a fan ever since

What genuinely blows my mind is that Scott alone was so dominant and just on a level beyond everyone else on that show that they literally had to alter his voice when in costume in order to kick it out of tune once in a while and attempt to try and keep it from being completely obvious who it was, which they completely failed at. Anyone that has ever heard them knew immediately who was in those costumes.

Yeah, I saw the first performance and cringed-not that it was bad, but it just wasn't "them.". The singers on the Masked Singer always have to try and "disguise" their voices so it's not so obvious from the beginning, and I hated to hear PTX not be their authentic selves. I wasn't optimistic that this was really the proper showcase for them, but apparently they made it work and got pretty far into the competetion. I'm happy they got to do this full on and really show their stuff. This song really showcased Scott, but my God, MITCH!!!!!

I kind of think that the funky "off" sound to their voices was more because of the costumes and less of the audio being mixed to mess with their voices. You gotta figure the costumes are very restrictive, right up in their faces and they are singing in a box with padding. So it's gonna affect them a bit.

I think they didn't want to ruin it. If I was a judge and I knew that if I guessed right, they'd go home, I'd guess it was every group in history EXCEPT Pentatonix before I let them go home.

My mom was guessing everyone else but the Penatonix. By Creep she was saying Hamiliton. And I was telling her the whole time that it's not any of them. It's the Pentatonix.

Doing 'CREEP' is a bad omen. It's an icky song, if you listen to the lyrics, and people will believe you are a jerk. Others left on it across shows!

I don't watch this show, but am confused how people didn't immediately know who they were, their voices are so distinctive I can only think that the judges must have pretended not to know, or otherwise had never heard them before

My parents were watching them when they came on and called me up just to have me listen. Mom told me to identify the voices an I listened; I said, “why does that sound like Pentatonix?” And even she knew it was them! They’re distinctive! Absolutely iconic

When Scott did his vocal run in the beginning of Paparazzi, I immediately knew it was him just because I recognize his voice anywhere and then they all came in, I was like 'oh my god, that's Pentatonix!'. It's easy to recognize their voices if you listen to them regularly.

I'm finding it hard to believe anyone reasonably familiar with the music of the last several years wouldn't immediately recognize them. It's not like there are a bunch of 5-singer groups who sing tight harmonies out there... And of that small group, is there even *one* other well-known group that's 1 woman and 5 men? I only occasionally hear their music and even I'd be like "yeah that's gotta be Pentatonix."

I’ve seen pentatonix live twice and omg one of the best group of artists I have seen live. They all genuinely love performing and are all beyond talented. I’m so glad they graced the masked singer with their talent so the younger generations can become familiar with them ❤❤

I think the only reason they didn’t win is because people got tired of waiting and we’re ready just to see who it was because every single time they were blown away. Either way I am obsessed with this video and I am saving this video because I love Pentatonix, but for them to sing creep, makes me extra happy.

Their "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "Imagine" are also incredible. Also, the writer said that their cover of "Hallelujah" was the best he had ever heard. I also loved "Amazing Grace/My Chains Are Gone" as well as "Daft Punk Medley." Pure genius. They are why a capella has seen such a revival. Their performances are tight and right.

I just…Pentatonix has such a distinct style, and their arrangements and voices are super recognizable, so the only explanation to me about how someone wouldn’t recognize them is that it’s too obvious of an answer.

Also this is my favorite performance from California rolls from the beat boxing alone and I’m super pissed that they came in third after that amazing beatboxing routine but I do understand that it is majority rule, so there wasn’t anything that could’ve been done at that point

I’m not from the US so I haven’t seen this show, but I am a big PTX fan. So was there anyone who did not immediately know who they were? Cause….how can you not hear that from the first moment on?? Btw I totally love how surprised they all looked when Mitch sung those high notes after the reveal and ‘us fans’ are like “well yeah DUH that’s Mitch ofcourse!” 😂

Fuuuuck I'm crying! I've been a huge fan for years! More than a decade, I guess. Everything these guys do is perfect! How would anyone mistake them for anybody else. I recognized them on the very first note. Love Pentatonix so freaking much.

PTX and Ben Bram together create the songs and music that makes them as successful as they are. the group is super talented but so is mr bram who they met on the sing off. He is listed on all three of their Grammies i believe he is the 6th member of the group! :)

I just think it was interesting to hear PTX arrange songs with music. It was definitely different but they still added PTX flavour on the breakdowns. Prefer them full acapella but I still enjoyed their performances.

Yeah they're so good at filling all the space with their voices, once you add instrumentals it almost sounds too busy.
