One thing that you didn't mention (and makes Mordin's death a little more heartbreaking): for all the other scripted cutscenes that use weapons, you're always using the "default" Alliance weapons. But for shooting Mordin? You use the Carnifex... the same gun that he gave you when you recruited him back in ME2.

I swear I've seen a video like this one before. This video went the extra mile, not content with just the "fewest companion survivors possible." Davey treated us to "the worst narrative outcome for everyone involved."

Mordin’s “I made a mistake!” genuinely made my blood chill. The section was already incredible before and after it’s so much more profoundly sad.

An even worse part about the relays being destroyed: it would take years or even centuries (according to the codex) to travel the distance from relay to relay in FTL speeds. You could probably manage to get supply lines setup between local systems.... eventually. So better hope that the regions around your relay have enough resources that you can avoid starving to death and even have a chance of rebuilding because that devastation probably means no single system has the basics to sustain life. What gets me is that if you get almost everyone killed, Joker just rattles off a depressingly long list of people that you got killed by that point. And the haunted forest is VERY haunted.

29:08 that's not the Destiny Ascension, it's just a random Asari Destroyer. Note how it only has three prongs. The Ascension has 4, and it's also like 5x the size. If you let it die in 1 it never shows up again. If you *do* save it in 1, then it totally dominates the scene when it shows up in 3. It dwarfs *everything* nearby, and has a few of those big destroyers as its wingmen. They look like little kids in comparison.

Playing the long con to make Thane's tortured existence that much more horrible had me both laughing and cringing simultaneously. Big ups for the cartoonish levels of villainy

As an idea: randomized playthrough. Every dialog choice is made by rolling a dice - this leads to a Bipolar-Disorder-afflicted Shepard and it's hillarious.

3:07 is the perfect example of a mass effect 1 face. oh how much time i sank into building a mass effect 1 face that didn't look like a hell goblin, and everytime i thought i was there in the character editor, when the game starts, you get this shot at 3:07 and despair comes crashing over you again.

Forget this legitimately depressing ending and the journey we took to get there, the entire segment from 47:30 onwards is hilarious and iconic. I'm dying from laughter as we speak.

I've never seen that death scene for mordin, mass effect is a series where I struggle to make the "bad" choices. That death scene just proves why. Holy shit that hit hard. Everything from "I MADE A MISTAKE!" Also. "Being neutral is often the worse path", why yes, to borrow from a different game series that was started by bioware. "Apathy is death".

Tetanus. Or however you spell the thing that you get when you're stabbed with rusty metal. Horses carry that around, so if you have an open wound and are near horses/qreas where horses frequent, you may get it. But it's a very slow pathogen, so it's actually a challenge to get it that way.

Love the detail that you actually went through trouble of turning Kaiden renegade, immediately as you mentioned romancing Kaiden I knew exactly what you were going to do, but turning him into space racist is just icing on the cake, for some reason I didn't expect you to actually do it, it's kinda obscure and most people don't even know that this is an option

I must disagree with you on how you handled Konrad Verner. If you let him survive through Mass Effect 1 viewing you as a hero, when you find him again in Mass Effect 2 you can choose to shoot him in the bar. If you do this, he attempts to again go be a hero on his own, falls off a flying bus, lands in an energy depot, and is incinerated immediately. Much worse death than just getting shot.

I feel like watching this video might convince me to finally play mass effect to try and fix this tragedy as much as possible

The timeline where a fucking sith lord escaped Star Wars and, instead of trying to take over a galaxy, decided to make it a worse place than Kevduit's New Vegas nuclear wasteland to live in.

I've not seen a good number of these options, but especially Mordin still saying "Had to be me. Someone else could have gotten it wrong." in so different a context was just chilling.

47:37 This is a bug caused by your combat drone. If it's deployed during a cutscene where you get x amount of squadmates. The system will think the drone is part of your party roster, but because there's no data for it in that sense. It'll freak out and use placeholder information. Re-deploying your drone should fix the issue.

I do legitimately love how Cerberus is in this route, and kinda wish that they were more like this in the main game. It'd give a chance to add a lot more depth to former Cerberus characters like Jakob (especially if he had to square up against legitimate terrorism he committed against innocent people as a member, as well as fight his former friends and squadmates), and would make a lot of the mistrust and/or hostility that other species have for humanity a lot more justified, as, well, they *don't* have rogue paramilitary terrorist organizations running around as rampant as Cerberus that just so happen to mainly target non-humans. Like, in the base game, they're a threat, sure, but one you'd expect from a rapidly expanding new galactic power, growing pains, if you will. They need to be dealt with, but are clearly not a major force in the human society, at least not one any species would be justified in calling out specifically as suspicious. But this Cerberus? This Cerberus is outright more powerful then some species whole militaries, and regularly produce attacks that kill thousands, with an insane success rate and power for their "supposed" size. It'd be entire reasonable to suspect Cerberus was actually a secret branch of the Human military covertly striking at the other species to weaken them, ESPECIALLY if you instated a human council in the first game. And if the missions that the person who apointed said council takes against Cerberus *coincidentally* always go poorly... well. It doesnt take a spymaster to put two and two together, and assume a Specture, nay, *Commander Shepard* is incapable of such repeated incompetence. Especially if it gets out that the Commander then allied with the Geth and Sabotaged the Krogan. The only hiccup any alien conspiracy theorist would have in unraveling a conspiracy theory to expose the human's plans to force a complete takeover of the entire galaxy is the fact Cerberus Killed Shepard's beloved Husband... ...Unless a certain cheating scandal befire his death were to become public knowledge. What im saying is a stronger Cerberus has the potential to completely implode the entire galaxy's defense force if they do their job well enough, and aside from that being a legitimate threat, it also is just so, so fucking thematically appropriate abd satasfying that a terrorist organization causes the exact opposite of what they want to happen to happen, because of the sheer arrogance required to think that mass kidnapping, torture, murder, unethical experimentation, and other warcrimes like that were the path to salvation.

It's pretty impressive how the devs accounted for all the decisions you made, even if you would have no reason to pick them aside from morbid curiosity, even if it isn't always handled in the best way (Wrex randomly deciding to stand down on Virmire, etc.) Also, why are there so many Renegade interrupts dedicated to just defending yourself? Such as against Kai Leng or the Illusive Man. I don't think it's particularly "Renegade" to defend yourself when someone is trying to kill you.

Upon seeing this show up in my notifications I am filled with pure dread and fear. Dear god Davey, what have you done in this game I hold so dearly.

To be fair, "war hero" is often just a euphemism for "former war criminal" who just happened to be on the winning side.

You overlooked the fact during the Citadel standoff with Udina, that the council is ALWAYS asking questions of where the Cerberus troops went, and it's actually Bailey who saves your ass, even if you play a perfect Paragon and talk everyone down. He says "Cerberus was right here, but they beat feet into the Keeper tunnels when they figured out we were coming. I'll say it plainly councilor, Shepard just saved the lot of you...". It would still take a lot more convincing than what happens of course, but i still feel that Bailey being there is just barely passable enough for me to buy the council giving you the benefit of the doubt

I actually thought the way they did the Huntress story was cool. You're supposed to hear it over several trips to the hospital, which any normal playthrough would have you doing. I always looked at it as Bioware is so confident in their stories that they can relegate great material to a kind of easter-egg that only attentive people will find rather than slapping you in the face with it like "LOOK AT ALL THE COOL SHIT WE WROTE". That said, I've played these games dozens of times over the years... heard that story tons of times... but I didn't know the girl was confirmed to be Joker's little sister. That's crazy. I really love and appreciate this idea. A playthrough where you don't just go for any old bad ending, you go for every possible bad ending. For everyone. I didn't even know that Mordin death scene existed because I always help the Krogan, and now I am so glad that I never have. That messed me up. Miscellaneous notes before the rant: You CAN spare Colonists on Feros by 'killing' them with a Melee Attack. This counts as Non-Lethal even if they're at one HP and your Shepard has ever possible melee attack upgrade in the game. Garrus' shooting dialogue is ALWAYS available, even if you never took a shot. Weird that they never added a check for that but whatever... I'm fairly certain you can leave Zaeed to die even before the mission, but I'm not gonna start a new playthrough just to confirm that. Also... Damn, yeah, that Geth Prime is a UNIT, and it's really disappointing you don't get him normally. Finally, the Council Rant: While it is true they play out the same, I have to say I like the Alternative Councilors a LOT more personality-wise. The Old Turian Councilor is still quite arrogant while the New Turian Councilor realizes the kind of position he's in and is clearly more negotiable (if more desperate). The Salarian Councilor is a lot more cunning (even if she doesn't get much time to show it) and the Asari Councilor is a lot more up-front than the Asari Councilor's more spiritual and metaphorical approach (even if they use the same model so it's hard to tell) Also that's not THE Destiny Ascension, as you can see a second dreadnought in the background. THE Destiny Ascension is a glorified number boost. For the rescuing the Council... All of those points ARE true, but counterpoint: If Shepard WAS on Cerberus' Side, why would they intervene in the first place? TIM could send them somewhere else to cause chaos, and TIM can't influence them if the Citadel is under Council Control, whereas if Shepard WASN'T there, they'd be hostages and the Citadel would be under Cerberus Control. Even if Shepard WAS on Cerberus' Side... why not just march on the Citadel immediately after the Council Meeting? Why help the Turians and Krogan? I consider it doubtful TIM genuinely knows about the Genophage Cure because if Shepard WAS on his side, they could just bomb the tower and prevent the cure being deployed at all. ALL OF THAT SAID: The game gives you more ending points if you spare them and the galaxy is a whole lot more trusting, so most people will Save the Council. Overall this is still a great video and two hours well spent.

Haven't played through the Trilogy yet, only like half of the third back when it came out. That unfortunately means I won't be watching what I'm sure is another high quality video from Davey Gunface, so I'm liking and commenting in partial compensation. One day I will come back and enjoy this video after experiencing the franchise for myself.

1:38:00 I've always thought the Samara quit game scene was kinda goofy because of the weapon she uses. The scorpion is a VERY high caliber pistol that doubles as an anti personnel grenade launcher. If she actually did that at that range her head would be a fine mist from either the sheer kinetic energy of the bullet or from a grenade going off next to her ear.

I knew the ending would have ended up pretty bad, but holy shit the psychological part of it was insane.

The engineer class has the best dialogue in the Omega DLC in three where you basically just BTFO someone trying to give you tech issues. It is hilarious. Especially because on that playthrough I had been calling myself “Mr.Fix-it” because I thought engineer shep just viewed the world as a bunch of broken machines for them to fix.

I don't know if you have realized this mistake or not but the asari ship at 29:09 is an asari cruiser, not the destiny ascension. The destiny ascension on the wiki is categorized as a "super dreadnaught" flagship, an asari dreadnaught is a small destiny ascension and the asari cruiser is a ship used for securing the flanks of formations

Also, in ME3 it doesn't matter whether you choose renegade or paragon dialogue choices. They both amount to one meter called reputation. Basically if you just talk to a ton of NPC's or squadmates during the game and do a lot of sidequests, it doesn't matter which dialogue options you choose, you'll have both renegade and paragon speech checks available no matter what.

The absolute memelord dialogue that just slips in sometimes is gold.

Neural shock is absolutely BUSTED in me1, bypass Shields deal toxic damage and paralyze the target. (Engineer and sentinel have access in ME1.) Spoiler: you can melt the matriarch in 3 SECONDS, by using neural shock, then lift, and finally wrex's carnage.

The only person I can think of that would get this ending unintentionally is DSP.

Oh, and don't let a pregnant mare catch cold, it could cause a miscarriage.

I kinda worry myself that I fall into the depths of centrism when I think about Mass Effect. It has always seemed so dumb to me how badly everything goes if you're a Renegade. Everybody tells you that this is WAR kiddo and we need to make tough calls. Problem is, the tough calls make you lose war points every single time. This video touches on it with the Salarian dalatrass deal. She gives you one (1) fleet of ships worth of 150 points, and in return you lose like, 600 points worth of Krogans and you need to shoot 2 of your past companions. Worst deal of all time. Then elsewhere in the story, Shepard doing what he deems necessary works out great when there is no choice involved. He teams up with the human supremacist terror group Cerberus who you know from the first game to be bad. But thats just us doing what is necessary. Then we kill off 300k Batarians because the end justifies our means. And the narrative agrees. The messaging feels inconsistent at times, and I wish that there were a few choices where being an asshole worked out better.

I regret watching this now. It hurts so badly.
