Really powerful (and brave) illustration of how powerful and invisible social constructions are. And really glad to hear a mention of disability being a social construction. Foucault sure had plenty to say about this. :)

When I went to take a nap after watching this video, I see a father imparting wisdom to his son, and I questioned why I did not see that before the nap when I was actually watching it. To contrast the thought I saw an insane person at Target talking to their little boy who has nothing in the world without the man, and this interdependence is what traps them both. The boy most clearly has no way to manifest his imagination by operating on the economy for the distance and resources to assert his positional perception as reality-imperative; but the dad really has a very limited domain to assert his interpretation of the relativity too, and feels in the same moment two compartmentalized impulses to both guide the boy and to engineer a response from the boy that confirms what the paternal lifeform relies on stay grounded in what without internal semiotic semantic synthesis would be a whirlwind of confusing, dangerous, nonsense sensations. The paternal lifeform feels a feeling called love for the boy, does it matter if the boy does not reciprocate this emotion? I remember as a child feeling very shut-off detached from my stepdad, when he held me in a hug, crying, during the middle of his divorce from my mom. As a child I was ambivalent about a lot of things that are now more meaningful to me. Would the paternal lifeform take care of the child if the child did not return indications of the feeling called love? To what extent does is the child being held captive against its will? Is there any other way for children to grow up? Can a parent raise a child with ambivalent care? Are emotions like injections? I feel emotions now, is it okay that I didn't feel them when I was younger? Can I get someone to return a love to me that I crave, as an adult, or is the feeling I call love a different color than anything that could reasonably be expected? I love your videos. This class is dank af.

It's a very interesting philosophicasl question, this question of when a parent is supposed to tell their children about reality as they know it if at all.

kids response is great - pick your nose ( in the face of social construction of reality, in the form of good manners). Love it! lol - "I want that on my birthday list". Objective reality - "I need to go pee" :-D

Horoscopes haven't been taken seriously since the metaphysics branch of philosophy (A number of individuals have suggested that much or all of metaphysics should be rejected. In the 16th century, Francis Bacon rejected scholastic metaphysics, and argued strongly for what is now called empiricism, being seen later as the father of modern empirical science. ) WHAT DATE AND TIME - NOT HOROSCOPE - Have horoscopes have outlived their credibility? (horoscopes = metaphysics) Is it time for social constructed scopes? (social construction theory is real however we still on cusp of how social construction affects newborns paradigms)

You failed to inform the young man when he said I need to pee that going to the bathroom to do so was only a social construct.

Fantastic... Well done. Although, I would at the end of the video I would write kids rather than boys as one of them or more might grow up to identify as something other than a 'boy' or a man. I speak to my toddler in my native language (Portuguese) and I constantly find myself forced to reword my sentences as the language is extremely bias in using the male denominations as the default for groups of mixed genders (pais = parents which also means fathers), or (irmãos = siblings as well as brothers). Keep up with the good work!

You comment reminds of of some excellent articles by Dr. Jane Ward on gender neutral parenting. Here's one that really stands out: feministpigs.blogspot.com/2011/10/queer-parenting-for-heteros-anyone-else.html
