Hey Jimmy! I’d argue that the Mavs roster is actually more similar to the 2017-2018 Rockets. Kyrie and Luka play similar to CP3 and Harden (especially when Kyrie increases his perimeter defense and play making) and both teams have rim runners like Capella and Derek Lively. The majority of the rest of both rosters is then filled with 3 and D wings. Love the video !

The Mavs have a high ceiling, but they still have glaring holes defensively and on the boards. They're definitely making progress though.

It's no secret that affordable "3 and D players" are the most sought after resource in the NBA. All any team needs is one or two (3 if your lucky) All Stars and 5 to 6 "Three and D" players to win a championship.

"Defense win Championships!" No, you dodn't have to be #1 defense to win a chip, but you have to be more than respectable on defense. You can have all the offensive firepower, but if your defense is not respectable, you are getting bounced in the first round. Even if you make the playoffs (and at times get lucky to get to the Conf. Semis), you arent winning it all.

Hard to see the Mavs not moving Hardaway at the deadline for a defensive upgrade. He had the numbers and a valuable contract to bring a real return. I'd love to see a starting caliber wing and a backup defensive center for Hardaway and another end of the rotation guy

It's so obvious Denver is going back-to-back. Jokic is unquestionably the best player in the NBA. Lakers and Suns are overhyped and will get exposed. Timberwolves and Mavs are too inexperienced/won't have enough weapons come playoff time. Only legitimate threat is the Celtics (Bucks are too inconsistent/subpar on the defensive end and no one in the East has any kind of a chance). And Jokic is absolutely going to body the Celtics

Mavs fan here. The team is still VERY far away from true contention. Lively II was the best draft pick the team has made in a long, long time (other than Luka), which is a great sign. However, I think they are still two pieces away. They need a big wing who can help Lively on defense/be a pick-and-pop or roll threat and they need another bucket getter. A guy they can trust to score without needing Luka or Kyrie to find them.

The greatest weakness mavs have to face is Lukas style of play and maturity. He shoots a lot of bad shots and doesn’t look for kyrie enough. End of games he is still baiting foul calls and this is the absolute worst way to play they game. You can’t play relying on the refs whistle it may help you in regular season but fails every time in playoffs. Champions don’t look for ref bail outs. Kobe, Jordan might get foul calls but they hit defenders with every move that the only way you can stop them is by fouling. Luka is similar to harden where he is looking for a foul first. Mavs fans are blinded by Lukas flaws. He can win with kyrie but it will require being mature and playing efficiently. Luka needs to know he has to lean on kyrie when it matters same way lebron did. Luka is in between a lebron and harden style but as of now he’s closer to harden and harden was always overrated.

I just want to say this Bs the Mavs drastically tanked last 2 games. They played until they had a chance to win. The teams okc were playing rested starter last 5 games no one from the nba said they can’t do that. So they didn’t tank they no longer had a chance to make playoffs because teams who played the mavs at the end were playing starters while okc was just given a free ticket last 5 games. The mavs played some of the same teams as okc but look the lineups okc played vs the bench. I’m not taking away from okc I’m simply saying that when teams started doing that the mavs no longer had a chance.

The Mavs will win nothing with a selfish crying leader like Luka. Amazingly talented player but lacks leadership skills needed to build an unselfish cohesive unit that plays for each other. As long as Luka has the keys to the franchise they will be good but not a true contender.

How is it working? Dallas has only beaten weak and mediocre teams. And even losses to a below .500 team Unless Dallas has beaten a top 10 team only can we say that it is working. Don’t get overly gaga yet. It’s like what happened to Utah last season.
