Glad I found this video. I thought this whole Maxxis wobble was just me. I just had a brand new set of Stan's No tubes wheels built up by my local bike shop. I took them home and put on a set of Maxxix Minion DH tires. Both wobble in one spot, near the logo. Tried deflating and blowing them up to 70psi a few times thinking the bead is just not seating. But it definitely is seating if I look at the bead all the way around. At this point their on, so I'll ride them this season, and give the new Michelin Wild tires a try next time.

I've just got the same wobbling issue with a brand new DHR II. The shop will replace it at no cost. I hope the replacement is free or defects. I have had HRII and Shorties without any issues so far... also Continental, WTB and Schwalbes without problems.

Same here have a high roller 2 fitted to rear wheel on Giant Etrance. During tubeless set up bead seats good but tyre wobbles. 5 attempts all at different positions.on the wheel but wobble still there roundabout the Maxxis marking. Front tyre minion fitted great and rolls great.

I've had it with all my maxxis tires, I always thought my rims were just damaged from big hits, but it wasn't until I replaced my rims I found it was the tires :) this was the same for DHF, DHR 2 and the aggressor.

Thanks for posting. Thought I was losing my mind. Put a brand new DHF on a brand new wheel and kept working on re-seating to no avail.

Had a wobble on a brand new DHF on a DH casing so I just have it replaced in my lbs. Also wrecked 2 DHR 2s and a High Roller on mellow rides but with hard cornering but didn't do any cutties nor skids. Their casing seemed so fragile!

I have the exact same problem and have had it on a couple others but not as bad as the last one. I will be shopping around now.

had the same issue with a new maxxis ardent race, took me quite a lot of messing around to realize that it was a faulty tire and not a mounting or wheel issue. Sent them an email, but they didn't respond. is it really that big of an issue performance-wise though? cause i really am tired of messing around with it and would prefer to just ride.

I could get my Maxxis Ikon's on my rims, but part of the line around the circumference of my tire was lower than the rest of the line and my tire was wobbly (going up and down). Finally I took 2 tablespoons of hand soap and added some water and wiped it with my finger around the circumference of the tire bead and rim. I had previously pumped my tires up several times trying to get them to seat properly, but I never heard a pop sound, like others on youtube show happening. After I added the soap (I put my tire in the bath tub) and I pumped up the tire, for the first time, I heard the two pops and my tire finally seated properly. I put tires back on my bike and there was no more wobble. It's imprinted on my tires that they were made in Taiwan.

Three years after this video and I had the same issue. It’s as if Maxxis exists within a holding company that doesn’t care about the actual product anymore.

Have it on my aggessai 27.5 x 2.5 right on the maxxis logo as you said. My aggressor 27.5 x 2.3 is perfect. Lbs going to have a look and swap it out if any issues no problem. Just a hassle to get over there

I bought a DH casing DHF dual compound to replace the XR4 on my slash and it wobbles WAY more than that, but I don't feel like sending it back, because I can't even tell it's there and mounting the tire was a nightmare.

Interesting. I’ve had the same phenomenon with a certain brand of bmx tire. I always figured it was fault from imperfectly mounting the bead. I wonder if you air down a bunch and reinflate if it would change anything. Ya know, maybe a bead reseat type trial and error?

Yep my 2 assegais I bought had the same thing. One was real bad and the was about same as yours telly. Got a refund for the tyres from chain reaction. They were really good to deal with about it too. Wish my lbs was the same.

Have you tried to wet the bead before pumping up the tire? I've usually had this issue with the bead not popping in fully.

I purchased a 2020 giant talon last week and noticed the tires were wobbly when I was cleaning them, they came with maxxis tires too.

Same problem here with 27,5 Aggressor 2.3 Exo . I love the traction and rolling of this tire but now I am not sure if I should buy another one.

All the Maxxis I’ve had wobbled more or less. Got a new bike with Minions a while ago and they both wobble. I can once again remember why I steered off of Maxxis. Going to chance them for Schwalbe or Michelin.

I've just returned 2 high rollers in a row for the same issue It's really put me off I did already have my winter tyres a shorty and dhr11 (UK) ready to go but this is the last straw, if these don't last it will be time to leave Maxxis of which I've solely used the last 10 years

Just bought a 2.5wt dd 29” aggressor with the exact same wobble. Annoying. Always ran shwalbe and never had this problem. Going to let most of the air out And try and get rid of the wobble by manipulating it by bending the tyre the opposite way. Did you send the second one back? Any luck with the 3rd replacement if you did?

I have the same i thought it was my rear wheel as there is a dent in it. So i tried to true it the best i could. For me could be the wheel could be the tyre. Now I just ride it cant really notice on the trail.

I have the wobble on a Minion DHR II and like your tire it's right on the Maxxis logo.

I can report the same problem with Maxxis tires but only with DoubleDown casings. Assegai seems to have to most wobble. No chance to get it fit without wobbling. Already tried two Assegais, both too much wobble. DHR2 with Exo+ casing on the same rim does not wobble! At least on the rear rim I got a DHR2 DD tire mounted without wobbling. Now I am not sure if I should try the Assegai Exo+ with a tire insert instead of DD. Weight difference is only approx 150gr between those two casings. But Exo+ is only MaxxTerra not MaxxGrip, that bothers me...It seems that DD casing is very sensitive to tire levers, one time to much force and the tire is done. Does someone know if the DH casing is not so sensitive?

Got an Ardent and a set of Schwalbe Big Apples from WIggel that both did this. Can't be bothered doing the return, sold the bike today. It settled after a while, but I won't be keen to buy either brand again.

I have 2 dhr that are straight as an arrow. Just got an ikon with this wobble. I'm sending it back!

My dhrii does the same. I've just been riding it. How does the wobble affect the ride? Does it have a noticeable effect on cornering? I haven't noticed anything so far but I've only ridden on it a few times

@MTB Telly.., i have the same problems with my old dhf and new dhf...i tried deflating the tires, apply soap and pump to 35psi...put the wheels on the floor, and i stepped hard using my heels all around the side walls of the tire, and it works for Me...i only weigh 65kg 😁✌✌✌

Same here on my Minion DHF 2.3, I even took it off, checked the wheel on a trueing stand and re-seated the tire. Still wobbles pretty bad. Very disappointing and frustrating.

I too came to this conclusion! I fiddled with wheel truing, axle, only to finally accept it was the Maxxis tyre! Rubbish!

I have a maxxis high roller in the back does the same thing. I even tried soapy water and max psi to get it seated straight. Is that just common? Im worried that its not good for my bike?

Haha I came looking why my wheel was wobbling and its a maxxis tire on my wobbly bike. I went with the Michelins on my other mountain bike.

I think I figured it out. Its the heat. I was putting my tires out in the sun to warm them up because they are a bear to put on. I took my tubeless tires off three times, Rims are new, I seated them perfectly with soap n water. The wobble was in the same spot and looked the same every time. I was in a groove with the "sun time" and didn't realize it. 6 months later I went to do a new batch of Stans, same routine but the wobble was different. I did leave them in the sun and rotate them a little longer this time. Ding ding ding, that must be it. DO NOT WARM UP THE TIRE. I still refuse to use Maxxis again though.

I had the same problem, are you mounting the tire with a lot of force? And are you using soapy water when inflating?

Did you have a third attempt? Im having the same issue with my rear terraveil rutland light and supple. Thing is i have to send proof to the retailer and wait for them to get a response from the manufacturer before even getting the new tyre. The while process can take weeks. Its very frustrating!

Allow me to introduce my friend, the Continental Cross King. Ordered a set from Amazon. Both tires do it. Swapped out tires on both wheels and it’s the same places on both tires.

Hey MTB Telly exactly the same issue with my DHR 2 Exo maxx grip 29er rear. Same with the aggressor! Don’t notice too much on the trail but it’s pretty unnerving riding hard .....there’s obviously a fault!

I've had no problem with exo or exo+ casings, but two out of three DD casings have had the wobble in them, and warrantying these tires is a pain

OMG, all this time I thought my wheels got out of true on two bikes! Grrr, damn you Maxxis!

I’ve replaced two High Roller II’s with wobble issues in the past. Today I mounted a new DHF with wobble. It’s seated perfectly, just another bad casing issue. I have to use this tire tomorrow at Skypark. Jensen getting this one back used and dirty. Jensen understands the Maxxis QC problem, no problem with exchanges.

Had a dissector on and it had the smallest wobble. However, I just installed a cushcore and the same tyre now has the wobble heaps more pronounced. The beads all even around the rim and the cushcore itself, I even took it all out and redid it to make sure it wasn't my bad installation of the cushcore, and its still there. Big bummer.

Just put on a set of maxxis DHR II - and they wobble. Could it be the bead not popping in to place?

Had this with DHR2. Cleaned sealant off bead with eraser, alcohol fingers, lubed bead with dish soap, pumped to 50psi, mostly gone

It’s the bead inside the tyre, it isn’t fixed to the rubber. I scrubbed old seaLent out of a minion and disrupted the bead by dragging it through a dish cleaning scrub pad.

Same issue with my Continental race king

Seems like every maxxis tyre I’ve recently bought has had this issue. I can almost tell before putting the tyre on because it looks almost asymmetrical. I wonder whether the fact that they get folded damages the Kevlar bead? Some people say they have been able to move the Kevlar bead back into its proper position, removing the wobble, though I’m doubtful. So frustrating when you have paid in excess of £60 for a tyre.

2022 and I got two tires with the same issue. It's fine. Michelin is making great enduro/dh tires, and Vittoria seems great for XC stuff. Problem solved.

Is the solution only replacement? Or we can do something else?

yeahhh exact same wobble position on my DHR II, right around the Maxxis logo. Shame I bought online, otherwise id press for a replacement :( Sucks that they let this happen with tyres that cost as much as €55

I’m having a problem with my Minion DHR II a few months after I put it on were my tyre has been getting deformed and gives my wheel a buckled look even though my rim is perfectly true and beaded to the rim. Any suggestions?

Just put front and rear new Maxxis on, DHR is not too bad but by DHF looks awful. Sort of nice to know I'm not the only one with this problem. Problem is that I mail-ordered them so replacements are going to be a pain to get i think.

I have had exactly the same problem (well the wobble is much larger though) 2 days ago in a Continental (supposed to be reliable) Cross King shield wall 26×2.00. At least the on-line shop has refunded inmediately without asking anything, but tired of paying huge prices to renonwed firms and getting poorest quality from who knows what all purpose factory in China.

my ikon 2.25 gave a hard time. I ended up taking it to a bike mechanic just realize it's the tyre from this video

My maxxis high roller have same issues..cant fix it till now..when it came with the bike rapierre zesty am fit 3.0 pretty good..they become woble since i decided to go to tubeless..does any one have solution?

My Maxxis tyres fit just perfect, take your time installing them , and use a decent foot pump, the tyres were maxxis ikon exo 2.35

You guys sure they are seated properly? I use a bit of soapy water round the bead and then pump them up to 40-50psi .

Just found this on my new Ardent & DHR, thought it was the installer..

I have had 4 maxxis tyres like this, it occurs when or if the tyre is very tight when installing on to the rim, the structure of the tyre gets stretched, I just bought a Santacruz heckler 2020 bike with perfect maxxis DHR DHF tyres and then installed reserve wheels, the rear tyre is horrendously buckles now, it’s driving me nuts

I'm assuming you have an inner tube. The tyre isn't seated properly. Pump it up and take it for a ride, let the beat settle into the seat properly.

Does it hurt anything to run them still?

I got tire with no wobble, for a month or so. Then I put insert and with all that pulling and pushing on the tire, to fit huge insert inside, i made it wobble. You might be doing the same thing with your tire, maybe being more gentle will do the trick, not sure...

Ive now had FOUR Maxxis Assegai's with the wobble. Switched to Michelin. Over it.

I fit em in the carpark of the store until I get a straight one. Downright sux there quality control.

I have purchased 3 sets of Maxxis Ardent 27.5 x 2.25 tires in the last 5 years. The first 2 sets were great....the last 2 Maxxis Adrent tires i purchased have a much worse wobble issue than shown here in your video. and yep, my wheel is true... and the beads are fully seated... I finally pulled the current basically new rear tire off and replace it with my old tire that still has 60% life left and guess what. NO WOBBLE.. MAXXIS needs to refund people for the poor quality control... my rim is true..

I did a bit of investigation with my own tires and turns out this is because the tire tends to bunch up a bit over the fold-able Kevlar bead in some places. This can be fixed (but takes a lot of patience) by stretching the tire very hard to make sure that the tire is stretched out evenly over the bead.
