The problem comes when people like this guy think that they can decide for others and hide behind religion (which is one way of taking the Lord's name in vain) to force their will on others by authoritarian means. Talk to him about other stuff and no doubt he'll be all about freedoms that he enjoys and will get upset with the idea of government being authorized to take those away. He just doesn't want anyone else to have freedoms that he doesn't approve of and wants to authorize government to take those away. Others having freedom means that they don't have to do what you tell them, even if they are doing things that you don't like or agree with. Other than that, he is very wrong about everything he said. Our founding fathers were *very* familiar with the perils of theocracy. They'd seen it and recent history for them had plenty of examples of tyranny of the religious on the very soil that was to become the USA. Many of our founding fathers were Deists, not Christian. They were so opposed to religion and government mixing that there is no mention of Christianity, God, Jesus, or anything else related to Christianity in our Constitution. In fact, religion in even the most general terms is mentioned only twice in our Constitution. The first is *prohibiting* religious tests as qualification to hold public office. The second is *prohibiting* our government from establishing any religion (that means passing laws that favor any religion over any others) and prohibiting any laws that prohibit free exercise of religion. That's it. This was further made clear in the Treaty of Tripoli 1797 where it *explicitly* states that the government of the United States of America is "not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion". This treaty was unanimously approved in a time where almost nothing was unanimously approved. Being a treaty, as per our Constitution, it is the law of the land. So... this "preacher" is either ill informed or he's lying... and he's doing so in order to support authoritarianism. In either case, he is violating at least two of the Ten Commandments... taking the Lord's name in vain and bearing false witness at the minimum.
