The Melvins will definitely grow on you! They have been growing on me for a long time. When I go to a new doctor they always notice the Melvins and ask me how long they have been there. I just scratch my head and tell them for as long as I can remember.

Really awesome. Saw them play the senile animal and big business set live. First show I've seen with 2 drummers.

The Melvins / Big Business combo was awesome, I got to see them four times in tiny clubs and touring with Tool, so much fun. I loved their collaboration years

This was the first Melvins song I ever heard, it definitely grew on me and to be honest this is easily one of their most accessible songs. If you want another Melvins I’d recommend Queen or The Bit. Btw I’ve been loving your reactions I found your channel today and have been binging.

@@THEDavidHeretic I would recommend "It's Shoved" by the Melvins. I just recently started listening to them and it really stands out for me. Also, i'm pretty sure Nirvana ripped it off on their 3rd album Lol.

Haha!... My request finally came up in the queue!!! (I was beginning to wonder if my request had gotten a copyright strike or something, ha). FUN FACT: There are actually two drummers playing simultaneously on this track 🤯🤯🤯(and throughout this album I think). Thanks so much for reviewing the song, David. I discovered the Melvins a few years back and I really started to dig their vibe... Somehow they're heavy, serious, and fun/playful all at the same time. I hear what you're saying about the long cacophonous ending... I figured that might irritate you... The Melvins seem like a band that would deliberately leave an excessively long ending specifically because common sense would suggest that it be shorter... Kind of an IDGAF, defiance over aesthetics attitude. I think they're underrated... thought the channel could use a little bit of Melvins sludge. 🤘🤘🤘🤘 Thanks again, David.

this is the first of 4 releases with the dual drummers *correction: major releases, as they did MANY smaller releases during this phase, singles, eps, live albums, cover album, etc

I kinda liked that. Inexorable juggernaut drive beats appeal to me. Feels like if it were a truck it would run ver you - slow.

Dale uses something called a ribbon crasher a lot. He has also been using a set of Paiste trash hats for a similar effect but he always has at least one ribbon crasher being used. Ribbon crashers are basically stacks of "ribbons" of metal stacked ontop of each other and make a "white-noise/trashy sound. I fell in love with Dale Crovers drumming the first time I saw them live in 1993. But this song and several great albums they incorporated another band, a 2 piece band named Big Business into the Melvins. So this song has two drummer playing at the same time. His name is Coady Willis. He's incredible in his own right.

I don't see that one in the que, so it would have to be a fresh request. You can suggest songs on here, and if your suggestion happens to already be in the que, I am more than happy to add your name to the requesters of that song. However in order to make fresh brand new requests, you have to be a Bronze Tier member on the Patreon page. It's only $5 per month and you can make fresh requests, along with watch all the videos I've done that KZfaq blocked and participate in Patreon community events and enjoy exclusive content for Patreon members only.

I like the guitar tones! Going old time Black Sabbath...even the vocalist is Ozzy-like. They like to play around with the music! Always changing something up in a small and natural way to give a sense of progression. They should cover Sabbath's, "Dirty Women"! I wonder if the drummer formed the band...Ending was definitely unsatisfying! But, I don't know how it could have been done better, as far as endings go...it was appropriate for the song. Song endings are weird...

Dale Grover is a great drummer/percussionist almost if not up there with Dana Carey of Tool. Melvins - "The Talking Horse" (especially with the video by Behn Fannin), very energetic payoff Melvins - Honey Bucket Another drummer who made it to front man/innovative genius is TAD. TAD also had the best bass player on the Seattle scene - Kurt Danielson. TAD - Greasebox - God's Balls (CD) Satan's Chainsaw (very iconic riff) - Jack Pepsi (real life stories) - Infrared Riding Hood (CD) Red Eye Angel (very catchy) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Not exactly material for a review (or instead excellent for a whole album review), however great to listen to and get into the bands: - 8-Way Santa (CD) Plague Years (kind of appropriate) Fun documentary: TAD: Busted Circuits and Ringing Ears - Found Tapes kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ftBhg9ma1b-akpc.html By the way Kurt Cobain was great friends with TAD and the Melvins. He toured with TAD and worked as a roadie for the Melvins. Love Battery - great psychedelic, acid heavy grunge band. Ron Nine and Kevin Whitworth. Love Battery - Straight Freak Ticket (CD) Fuzz Factory Between The Eyes (there was video which seems to have disappeared from KZfaq) Highway Of Souls -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Also an honerable mention - Dale Crover's ex-wife, Lori S. and her band Acid King. Heavy, sludgy stoner rock. Not unlike the Melvins in that way. Acid King - "2 Wheel Nation" kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gLyXgLKlvNG4mmg.html From Sweden: Astroqueen - Superhuman God kzfaq.info/get/bejne/o7uPoptytqfRoZc.html

I saw them way back in the mid 80s? I wanna say. I didn't know who they were at the time but a couple of my friends were into them. They were a lot more punk sounding than this, though. This is very heavy and greasy / grungy. I can remember, when they came out, the bassist did a 10 minute solo before any other instruments started to play.
