A lot of people say that this scene was disappointing, but I actually feel the exact opposite... I feel like the scene was meant to show how pathetic Red John really is, when he's being confronted. He was such a mysterious killer throughout the whole show, but in reality he was just an old man, and nothing more.
@SeniorBanana7 жыл бұрын
It was a little underwhelming at the point where he blinked twice to say he was sorry for killing his family. I thought he was going to say no as he was not very sorry when he was toying with Jane. It does go to show how a pathetic little man he really was though. I can't believe he was the puppeteer after all of that. He looks so pathetic.
@TheTyupi7 жыл бұрын
Anna Temple I think he was trying to manipulate Jane by blinking. Maybe he thought Jane would let him live? Dunno. I still believe that people misinterpreted the whole scene, he was just a very sad and pathetic old man, begging for his life.

I love this ending. For one, Jane actually goes through with what he's been saying throughout the series: he killed Red John. There's no last minute changes where he does "the right" thing and turns Red John in instead. And this is a complete victory for Jane. RJ doesn't get a last laugh, or an epic showdown or anything. He gets a silent death that no one witnesses. Yeah I know a lot of people are disappointed because RJ didn't fit their imaginations but I felt that was the point. RJ was trying to build a legend around himself. Trying to be something bigger than what he was but then Jane stripped everything he had away. He showed that, despite all RJ had done, he was still just a man of flesh and bones.
@delaneyjane81459 жыл бұрын
I think McAllister was a perfect RJ. Just think about some of America's real life serial killers - some were family men (the guy from Wichita comes to mind) with normal jobs whose family, friends and colleagues never would have guessed. So I am fine with who RJ was. But I would like to find out who all is still on the list.
@Calriec8 жыл бұрын
+EX7Sonic This is exactly how I feel about it. Red John was just a character McAllister played to scare people and control his followers. In reality, he was an insecure, scared little man who wanted to be powerful. Also, I think that if McAllister had been defiant and unafraid in the end, Jane's victory would have seemed cheap and hollow.

There is a subtle throwback, way back to the season 2, in this scene. Bosco's final wish, before he died, was to Jane to kill the Red John with his bare hands instead of taking him into custody. A great continuity detail, what a great show.

I like the RJ ending. For one, it shows what a coward Red John was. He killed so many people, I was actually expecting him not to be afraid of death. But the scene shows, that RJ was one big fucking asshole. He took joy, pleasure out of killing people. He liked watching the light in their eyes disappear. But even after seeing it so many times, he is afraid. It wasn't overly dramatic, no flashbacks, no sad music... it was death. It was realistic. And I liked the fact that Jane, after talking of killing him, actually goes through with it. Talking about doing something and actually doing it are two very different things. The scene showed Red John, stripped from everything that he had - power. It showed that he wasn't special. He wasn't brave. And him begging for his life at the end proves that. He was weak. I like that they didn't portray him as some Badass villain. Red John was Red John. And Jane is Jane. Patrick needed to move on. And by killing Red John he did.

Even though this video is quite old now, I just wanted to explain the last couple of seconds in this scene just in case anyone didn't get it, because it was one of the most powerful parts of this entire episode. When it pans around to the mother & daughter, the old couple, and the father & daughter, it represents everything that Jane had lost due to Red John. The mother & daughter represents his family, the old couple represents the future that he now doesn't have with his wife, and the father & daughter represents him losing the chance to play with his daughter and see her grow up. As Jane runs away from these people, it symbolizes Jane coming to accept the fact that these moments are no longer possible, and eventually looks towards the future and moves on instead of dwelling on them because he was finally able to kill the one thing that was keeping him there, Red John.

Wonder how the story tellers could get away without having him go to jail? Abhor the idea of vigilante justice. Loved the mentalist in the beginning but got bored of the focus on red John. Am I alone? Would have much rather loved it if he decided to turn red John in because he loved Lisbon and was ready to acknowledge that life moves on and it doesn't mean he cared any less for his former family.
@brandonmiles86 Жыл бұрын
@@ranjanagosavi4735 That would have been the noble thing to do but it also would have been boring. We've seen it a million times. Said person has a realization and forgives the person. This show is the only instance I can think of where the person actually does what they set out to do: kill the person. He does love Lisbon, but at the end of the day, his agenda came first. Not many shows or movies have the balls to show the "hero" in that light.

This scene was so fitting, Janes desperation and grief reason enough to kill someone in a park full of children, watching Jane despise himself but feel relief at killing Red John, seeing him acknowledge he's a cold blooded killer in his own eyes, waving the gun and questioning whether to kill himself, finally running free of red john. I think that was a very fitting ending for one such as "Red John." creep built himself into some dark urban legend with all this power, but he dies like the coward he truly is, alone and begging for his pathetic life. and really, somebody had to kill the guy in the end; he'd never stop otherwise, it's not in his nature. he would've continued doing exactly as he pleased, even if he'd been arrested and sent to jail. he'd eventually find some other nitwit to influence, escape and start all over again. it's just that much better that Jane is the one responsible for this; Patrick Jane, who because of a sting to his ego, he's tortured more than anyone else over the course of several years, is the one to put him down like the diseased creature he is. vengeance and justice for his lost family, freedom for himself from that RJ obsession, safety for his friends and countless would-be RJ victims... yeah, I'd say that's a win :-) true, at this point, he's a fugitive and a "murderer," but hey... extenuating circumstances, anyone?

Raffaele Cafiero Oh, no doubt. The gun in his hand is my favorite thing from this scene. He considers it very hard; he takes it to his mouth almost automatically: it is done, it's over, there's nothing left for him to do in the world. But then you can tell: he thinks of Lisbon. It's made quite obvious since he calls her afterwards. She's the only reason he didn't off himself right then and there: it would bring her too much pain, she would forever feel guilty and possibly resent him (aside from herself). Freaking love this scene.

1:53 No music. No new twist. No flashbacks. Just pure, satisfying vengeance and justice. It also confirmed everything Jane said about McAllister being pathetic. Rewatching the series in 2020 and I miss this show. This scene was perfection. He was so tormented and he finally succeeded in killing Red John. Simon Baker was brilliant. I wish he’d do another series.

At the time, I didn't know who Simon Baker was, when I saw him at shopping mall. He appeared to be waiting for someone and was kind of aimlessly walking around in a rest area where couches were placed. Just as I was passing through, he casually sat back into the corner of a couch, one arm resting along the back of the couch, his other elbow on the adjacent armrest. I'm not gay, but I was like "Man, that is a good looking guy!" --- also his hair was phenomenal. This happened a little before *_The Mentalist_* started airing.

I love this scene. Shows that humans will always be humans, no matter what kind of legend and mystery they try to create around themselves. Also, Jaine keeps his word and kills Red John with his own hands, the very thing he wanted to do right from the start, was such a pleasure to watch. No "I'll turn you over to justice because I am a better person than you!"-bullshit. Just a mentally scared person who takes revenge for the loss of his daughter and wife. And when Red John is dead, we, as the audience, see the gun and ask: Is he going to kill himself now, after he stared in the abyss for so long? But he keeps going. He finally is able to let everything behind and start a new life. It's poetic irony that this show about an unrealistically gifted, hyper intelligent person basically finished by such an down-to-earth ending, breaking quite a few tropes on the way.

Watching this in 2022 and still love the scene. I love how we see Patrick character grow but also we see him finally get his revenge. Its better to see this ending then one where Patrick would have just let Red John go. Since in this scene we see Patrick anger and the feelings of a man who lost everything. I love this show and how we see a characters good and bad. He finally gets the opportunity to avenge his family and he feels happy knowing that it's all over. One of my favourite TV shows ever.

To me, this and the series finale ending with Jane and Lisbon were the two best moments in this shows history. I loved this show, and this scene made me tense up and had me on the edge of my seat. Simon Baker played this scene very well.

I absolutly agree, these are the two big marks in the series: the hard cut ends the RJ-storyline and in the end there is Janes healing by closing the circle, getting once more what he lost: a wife and a baby. It is so perfect written, I get goosebumps everytime I'm rewatching

One of the best revenge scenes ever, most of the revenge based movie or series really irritate me because in whole plot each and every character will be nagging about power of forgiveness and moving on in life irrespective of how heinous the crime was. If the hero does get revenge instead of forgiving the criminal to move on, then somehow he either dies or it is shown that he has achieved nothing from said revenge. This series was really a breadth of fresh air in revenge based drama where the protagonist gets revenge and enjoys a happy ending too.

He wanted to kill himself.. Looks at Dead John ... Thinks about his life and remembers Lisbon. Puts the gun in his hands and calls Lisbon to let her know he is alright. Just a raw scene without any background score. Just 👌
@leogem1773 жыл бұрын
I agree! It's Lisbon's gun isn't it!? Bodyguard took it then he got it back. He asked her to trust him with it- thinks about shooting himself then remembers it's her gun and comes to his senses. Puts it in RJ's hand for his fingerprints to lessen any reprucussions on her...calls to tell her to say he's okay ♥️

PERFECT SCENE! I was not disappointed at all! Fortunately (for me) I was one of those who found this episode one of the best episodes of the series and enjoyed it!!! Patrick remained faithful to the end killed Red John without any hesitation! Many people were disappointed with the presentation of Red John as a pathetic little man in his last moments. I liked a lot!!!! Because it was part of the actual punishment of Red John: feeling nothing while his life is hanging of someone else judgment!!! Begging for his life, asking for mercy!! Some fans maybe disappointed because they wanted more action, but the point was to find Patrick atonement!!!! AND remember guys... in this story starring Jane, NOT Red John!!! I want another season!!!!! BEST series ever and as always an excellent SIMON BAKER

Anahi BLack ... it is now I read this. And I have the DVD series. It is very strange that this person is RJ. While I still wonder how he got so much information about Patricks investigations. How he got this lady with the curly hair to believe she is dead (the one who was abducted), he had a lot of followers in all the places (tiger tiger, their last message) don't judge my spelling, I'm not Englisg/American) .. Did the followers see a different RJ ? Was he kind of split personality that he had so much power over all these men ? Just can't seem to put those 2 personalities in place. It feels like a gap ... maybe rewatch the series .. 😉

History of Jane and Red John could be understanded in few ways. To me it is metaphor of finding and killing your own evils inside you, to find finally path to complacency and true love. Interpretations in all way are beautifull and learning a lot. Propably personal feelings of Bruno Heller and his experience in regular human life have a such mark on this movie series. Thank very much for this. PS: And I have a crush in Lisbon...

Brilliant ending. Yes, it wasn't a huge grandiose climax like many tv shows try to create. I didn't feel like the hero finally beat the villian, I didn't feel escpecially happy or sad. It just kind of happened and it was even slightly dissapointing. And that's what's perfect about it because Jane must have felt exactly the same in this moment. He even said it himself earlier in the chapel that finally meeting him is rather dissapointing. It connects you with the character very well. RJ turned out to be a rather pathetic man and quite the coward. His death was silent with nobody else watching to applaud Jane. It didn't feel like a victory, it felt more like a relief. Perfect ending and a great show.

Many things about the conclusion to the Red John storyline were frustratingly disappointing after the brilliant start to season 6, but Bruno Heller got one thing absolutely right: Patrick Jane killing Red John. That always had to happen, the old 'if you kill him you're just as bad and he deserves to go to prison after trial and due process etc. etc.' rhetoric was never going to wash here, not after everything this bastard had done to Jane and the people he cared about.
@rcafiero7 жыл бұрын
Exactly. One thing one can say about this beautiful series, is that there is absolutely no rethoric in it. That's why I love it so much.
@georgeofhamilton6 жыл бұрын
But that "old rhetoric" isn't wrong.

The perfect ending. Perfect scene. Red John was everything I imagined. And his death, quite literally by Patrick's own hands, was so satisfying. Especially because of the fact that Patrick himself seemed to be very, very satisfied with his death. Man, you couldn't have nailed the endgame better if you tried.
