You forgot to mention one very important detail about LFP battery. They usually like to be charged to 100% percent. That’s a big deal because you can fully charge them daily.

I would rather say that LFP chemistry does not dislike being charged at 100%. You will still get more cycles if you do not charge at 100%.

Oh Tommy, If the eSprinter can make 200 miles in a camper an config, it will see MORE DCFC action than you can imagine. Winnebago just did a concept on a version of the eTransit they had 3rd party electrified and is waiting for a longer range van on which to base their electric RV van. This could be close to what they need. Space is right. Range?? To be seen, but encouraging!!

Theoretically could you cover the top with solar panels and use it for some long term camping? Idk how long it would take to charge off solar but that would be interesting to explore. Especially if you can run appliances and other things off the battery as well and could maybe add 10-20 miles of range a day by solar.
@MrMartin246
@MrMartin246 Жыл бұрын
A very big solar panel setup will give you 1KW on a bright sunny day. The eSprinter will have a 113KWh battery. Do the mats, in those best case conditions it would take 113 hours to charge, or 5 days, and that is assuming you use 0 power during that time. Solar is not likely to be much help with charging the van battery pack, it is just too big.
@GamingProject23
@GamingProject23 9 ай бұрын
@@MrMartin246Thats just wrong. A 1kW setup will net you about 3 kWh per day on average, I supect you can get 4 KW on the roof of this thing, so in the sun that could mean 12 kWh per day or about ten days average for a full charge. In sunny weather that could be as low as 3-4 days. If you can fit them without a big hit to the aerodynamics and plan to stay a few days between travelling, it could have some significance :)

sorry but i disagree. if you cant reverse into a charging bay, you probably shouldnt be driving a van like a Sprinter. its also far safer for people to reverse in and drive out, and it also works out more economical (certainly in a conventional vehicle) as you can see where you are going so not having to mess around, just get in and go instead of reversing out 'blind'

These electric vans from MB, Ram and Ford are game changers for the delivery business. They’re going to save large fleets millions and millions of dollars, reduce maintenance, increase time on the road, reduce cost to “fuel”. The TCO (total cost of ownership) is going to be 30%+ cheaper for a fleet. The biggest winner is going to be us, reduced pollution, means cleaner air, less asthma, less smelly vans, quieter. Now… the questions is, how long is it going to take USPS to figure this out because it looks like Amazon, FedEx, UPS and DHL are all over this… and already did the math…

Does this come in pink? I want to get one for my daughter, she didn't like the Tesla we got her. She insisted on a Mercedes.
@Latingent50
@Latingent50 Жыл бұрын
Mercedes Benz has never advertised any "pink" vehicles, neither in Europe nor in the U.S. The only examples known are not even Mercedes Benz vehicles, such as the Pink Cadillacs given to a famous brand of cosmetics sales ladies, and some toy cars made by Mattel, for their Barbie Dolls. But you can always buy your van in white, and there are good body and paint shops everywhere that will paint your white van any color you'd like. However, if your daughter will use the van for what these days is called "Van Life", you should bear in mind that a "pink" van, loudly advertises the fact that there is a woman, possible alone, sleeping in the van, so for the purposes of keeping her safe, going "pink" doesn't seem to be very good idea. Just something to consider, though, given that stealth, and keeping a low profile (a part of which, quietly driving away first thing in the morning, if one is in the city), have always been key to improve the odds of successfully parking overnight and sleeping in one's vehicle, without being disturbed neither by criminals nor cops. But you and your daughter have the last word. In any case, God bless and good luck!!

@carholic1336 the manufacturer's are being forced to convert to EV because of upcoming ICE bans. It takes a long time to develop a new vehicle from ground up. Now they have to redevelop the whole fleet, in a very short period of time.

@Latingent50
@Latingent50 Жыл бұрын
Now here's an observation concerning safety with these new electric vehicles. Since they decided to place the charging port on the van's nose, and no keys or anything are needed to open and access said charging port, what's going to keep someone from accessing the charging port when the van's owner is away, and intentionally stick some piece of metal in there to short circuit and disable the vehicle??? At least with the diesel models we have the peace of mind that the fuel tank intake requires the driver's door to be open in order to access it, which in turn requires having the vehicle's keys. Hopefully Mercedes Benz is listening, and will take steps to fix that soon, like relocating the charging port where the fuel tank access used to be.
