If you think Tony Stark is the superhero with the most tragic alcohol addiction, you should meet Byron Lewis. Byron was an aviator who, with the rise and massive popularity of superheroes in the 1940s, decided to join the Minutemen and become the vigilante called Mothman, using a suit with giant wings that allowed him to glide. However, the serious accidents he suffered over the years, added to the harassment he received from the government due to his socialist ideology, led him to massively consume alcohol as a way to drown his sorrows, which caused his mind to end up so screwed up that he had to enter a psychiatric hospital, where he spent the rest of his life in almost complete solitude. The most ironic thing is that Byron, despite his decrepit physical and emotional health, was the last member of the Minutemen to die, passing away at the age of 80. Wonder what Tony would say to Byron about their alcoholism if both men met

@@maximfb7134 Yeah. Said project did not even remotely deserve the hatred of the fans, especially if we take into account the gigantic creative team behind it, with great authors such as Darwyn Cooke, Len Wein, or J. Michael Straczynsky in charge of writing the stories and prestigious artists like Lee Bermejo, Amanda Conner and Joe Kubert drawing. Although the Comedian and Rorschach miniseries aren't pretty good, their art is sublime. The Silk Specter, Nite Owl and Ozymandias' miniseries are quite entertaining and even improve the backround story of the characters. The Dollar Bill and Moloch specials are even quite emotional and depressing to read. And finally, "Minutemen" and "Doctor Manhattan" are masterpieces almost as good as Alan Moore's graphic novel.

So, just a little bit of theorycrafting on this... Tony Stark is a really unlikely hero when you think about it. Things kinda have to align just right to make him become the Iron Man we all know and love. First off, you have to have a universe where Tony Stark was put up for adoption, and then adopted by Howard Stark. Next, he has to take control of Stark Industries, participate in a specific military tech demonstration and then either trip a booby trap or get caught in an IED attack depending on whether you go by comicverse or MCU backstories - but the important thing is that he HAS to end up with shrapnel in his cardiovascular system and he needs to have his realization that he's only fueling the military-industrial complex that perpetuates global conflicts. And of course, he then has to start tinkering in his basement and develop the iron man suit, if he stays more hands-off in regards to peacekeeping it doesn't work. And then the MCU Tony Starks all weed themselves out sacrificing themselves to reverse the Snap. You also have to find ones that don't irreversibly become Superior Iron Man, and ones that wake up from their comas. Just from that alone, there's probably far fewer iterations of Tony Stark in the multiverse than any other Marvel character. There's a few more iterations of Iron Man than that but they're all either Infamous Iron Man/Iron Doom or something else.

Well there was that one Tony Stark that Victor switched bodies with, Victor ran the Stark company into the ground while Tony built himself up from the nothing that Victor put him in and eventually becomes Iron Man and rules over the country, while Victor sees Tony's success and tries to copy it before failing, Victor wants to trade back with Tony but Tony refuses, he's elevated and brought honor to the Victor name while all Victor did while he was tony was squander all the potential he had. It was a demonstration that even when they swap places the thing that defines them in the person they are and not what they have.

There should also be an infinite amount of better tony starks out there just by the sheer scale of the multiverse. There could be a tony stark who was adopted as a baby by a young uncle Ben and raised with the knowledge that his great intellect comes with great responsibility. Your friendly neighborhood iron man. There could be a tony stark who was lost as a child during a family trip to china and found his way to k’un-lun, being raised amongst superhuman martial artists, mastering his body and every martial art out there with his intelligence as well as being more mentally stable due to the self discipline taught there. Iron body tony stark. The could be a tony stark who happened to be kidnapped by aliens as a child only to manage to escape on xandar, living there on the streets for a few years, struggling through the hardships of homelessness in an unfamiliar environment but benefiting from access to advanced technology and sciences, slowly building his first suit of armor over the years and using it as a bargaining chip to enter one of Xander’s institutes of technology as a student. Star lord tony stark, chief science officer of the nova empire. There could be millions of tony starks like these just because of the sheer scale of the multiverse but we’re always shown worst case scenario’s, exemples of mediocrity and even senseless turns to evil. I feel like comics books have lost some of their wild unrestrained originality in exchange for bleak realism with a sprinkle of optimism and wholesomeness from time to time.

I mean isn't Tony dead in the 616 universe and its a clone currently running around? Or die they retcon that? This was after extremis and superior iron man if I'm not mistaken.

@Elijapy first thing happened is that he almost lost by absorbing man, then that time he broke his bones with it and gotten his ass beat by Korvac. Don't get me wrong, 70 has current up-to-date Stark tech, but it feels like a forced downgrade compared to Extremis or Bleeding Edge.
@Elijapoy
@Elijapoy 10 ай бұрын
@@JKgyaru6969 you’re lowballing the absorbing man, he absorbed the same metal Tony’s suit was made out of, Thor would struggle too if the absorbing man touched his hammer (which he has done and even killed Thor). Second, he broke his bones because he PUNCTURED a sphere made of VIBRANIUM AND ADAMANTIUM, something his other suits haven't done before. And Korvac? It's Korvac he wiped out the entire Avengers roster in the ’80s. Even then, when they fought again later on Tony pieced him. And you’re only taking stuff from Christopher Cantwell’s run, one of Iron Man’s worst runs due to how much of a mess it is with characters, and a run the poorly utilizes the model 70. If you really want to see this armour’s potential being put to good use go read the Iron Man Annual 2021, The current run of Iron Man, or just any other writer other than Cantwell, since he likes to write Iron Man as if he were a man baby. The Model 70 can literally take on dozens of upgraded sentinels while a whole group of experienced mutants can’t even take down one. Model 70 has the same properties as the extremis, maybe even more, the only difference is the extremis virus Tony had to use to operate it, without it, Tony struggled to use the suit. There’s a reason why the Model 70 has been Tony’s longest-used suit since the ’90s. The bleeding edge is the only exception, but even then Tony has moved to an arguably less advanced suit (model 42). If you really want to see this armour whoop someone Iron Man #4 (2022) is a good issue.

Yeah that one is definitely a more stable version of stark, but they really don’t identify as tony stark at all. Their mind may have originally been that of stark, they have entirely assumed the identity of victor von doom, and wants to stay that way as in his universe, starks reputation is dog water
