On one hand, I see Eros making Zeus in love with some of his "lovers" likely, but on the other hand, there are also many myths where Zeus had complete control over his d**k, and he could have just chosen to bag it up. I can definitely see him blaming a lot of his active choices on Eros. LOL

Three things worth noting: 1. It’s incredibly ironic that Zeus so often uses marriage to bind people and make them better when he so often cheats on his own wife and ignore their marriage. 2. In the versions of this myth I’ve heard, Psyche was actually pregnant when the incident with the hot wax happened, so she did all four of those tasks while pregnant!! 3. It seems pretty clear that this myth is what inspired Beauty and the Beast, which I just think is worth mentioning especially given the nature of MUO. Great video overall John! Despite the fact I know most of the stuff you cover already, you explain it in an incredibly compelling manner that still entices me to watch. Thanks!

Beauty and the Beast is actually based of a true story where a French noble journeyed to the America's and found a beast boy aka a boy with the werewolf like disease that causes a person to grow excess hair all over his body. He took the boy home, educated him, and married him to another noble who at first was horrified by her husband's appearance but later fell in love because of his genuine good nature. I can't remember the actual names of anyone since it's been a while since I learned that

Ok so I remembered these stories when listening to this one: 1 Beauty and the Beast 2 Cinderella 3 Sleeping Beauty 4 Rumplestiltskin 5 Bluebeard Psyche was off in a large castle where invisible people waited on her, she longed for her family and her sisters tried to ruin her life because of their jealousy. The incident from Cinderella about the grains that he mentioned. Sleeping beauty, because she opened the box and slept, Eros then found her, plucked off the sleep from her and awoke her. Then the labours reminded me of Rumplestiltskin. And Bluebeard because, Aphrodite asked her to bring the box but Psyche opened it.

A few notes: - In addition to his iconic weapon, Eros was also frequently depicted carrying a torch. - I always liked to think that the oracle's description of Eros as a loathsome winged serpent is a result of Apollo still being angry about the Daphne debacle. - Speaking of Lucian (author of 'The Golden Ass'), Eros' depiction in his 'Dialogues of the Gods' tend to pretty amusing as well.

My top three favourite Greek myth stories that involve a love story and possible of all Ancient Greek myths are Orpheus and Eurydice, Eros and Psyche, and Hades and Persephone. I am so glad this was covered because they are useful lessons, shows that once in awhile there is a happy ending, and a beautiful myth of love and challenges that keeps you on the edge of your seat.

Anyway…I'm surprised and touched by the beauty of Eros's love story. Most Greek myths don't end well, but this was just lovely. I kept waiting for The Part Where It All Goes Wrong, and it never came - I thought the Sleep of Hades was going to be the end of it, I was so sure! Wow…what a lovely tale to soothe me in preparation for yet another Valentine's Day spent a continent away from my beloved… (No, he's not a soldier, it's just a long-distance thing.)

When I was in high school, I was in the Latin club. Everyone had to assume a Roman name (usually a Roman god or goddess name). I took on the name of Daphne, Apollo's first love. Even though I've studied Roman mythology, I never came across how Eros played a part in it, but it does explain why Daphne spurned Apollo's advances. Once again, thank you, Jon Solo! (And yes, I do appreciate the timing of this latest endeavor of yours.)

this dynamic is also used in the loose rendition of a Beauty and the Beast tale-type East of the Sun and West of the Moon, which basically uses this myth as a basis for the story, but falls into the tale-type because by day, the prince is a white bear.

Psyche is every classic Disney Princess. - Sent to a Beast by her father, only to fall in love with with him. - Calls upon animals to help with an impossible sorting task. - Falls into the sleep of Hades after opening a box supposed to contain beauty, and must be rescued by her true love. Surprised that he only mentioned the Cinderella connection.

Imagine being a mortal, then becoming a goddess - Psyche must have heard all about the weird stories and shenanigans of Zeus and the rest of the gods that she wouldn't have been aware of when she was mortal! Zeus: And that's how I dethroned my father by making him spit up my siblings. Psyche: ... Zeus: Then there was the time I birthed my son from my thigh Psyche: .__. Zeus: And there was the time where my own daughter came out of my forehead! Psyche: o__o Zeus: Well I sort of ate her mother. But it was her own fault for giving me that headache when she crafted her the armour from my insides! Psyche: HONEEEEEY!!! Eros: For Hades sake Zeus! Hades: Hey!
