The remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is widely regarded as one of the better horror remakes, and a few years after it's release a prequel was dropped, and that's what we're looking at today. Set a few years prior to the events of the remake, it details how Sheriff Hoyt became Sheriff Hoyt and why the family turned to cannibalism... sort of...

I don't have a problem with prequels as there's a lot of them I really like, but they have this obsession with explaining questions no one asked. They close questions instead of introducing more. Which is why I enjoy the Star Wars prequels because despite their flaws, they expand instead of enclose.

Glad to see this movie getting some support in the comments. The last 3 texas chainsaw movies would have been lucky to reach the heights of this one. This is shot really well, they actually have a focus on the family (unlike the most recent one) the characters are memorable (Sheriff Hoyt is one of the best TCM characters in the franchise) and it actually pays attention to the previous film.

The really did a great job of explaining how he just shows up places and what he would've been like living in those woods in the old camp grounds and later the old mines beneath the campsite and beyond! These are some really great points. I fear that the early 2000s was the start of the downfall of horror. Horror films are now cheap jump scares and taking iconic classics and practically "dumbing" them down for the masses to capitalize on a franchise name. Of course the genre isn't dead but it is a shame that we only get masterpieces once every 5 years if we are lucky. Also, this isn't the greatest but this is still miles ahead of Texas Chainsaw 3D LOL

Sure, I cannot stand the Halloween sequels, but that's because I'm very against the idea that a sequel should exist for that series. @@RocklinGraves you know how every review on every slasher film in the 80s that pissed you off because of their complete misrepresentation of the movie? Such as when Roger Ebert called The Final Chapter a “morally reprehensible piece of trash” without actually engaging with the work whatsoever. What they described was Pieces. I personally hate what it stands for, but it might be fun with a couple of friends. There’s a couple moments that are actually pretty entertaining, but I was so bored watching it and it’s the most misogynistic slasher film ever made. For example, that other recent Texas Chainsaw where the girl inherits the house and Leatherface lives in the basement… yeah, that one just plain sucked

The reason why I didn’t like this movie was because it was billed as this whole “backstory” to Leatherface when really it’s just a retread of Texas Chainsaw Massacre 1 without the possibility of any survival. You know every character is going to die so it’s just a matter of watching them be tortured for over an hour and a half. Are the gore effects cool? Yes. Does Lee break his back carrying the movie? Yes. But that final kill logic is just a middle finger to the viewer.

I have yet to hear someone in the original case for this movie every you said the same thing they answer questions. No one was asking say the answer questions that you wasn’t asking. Great movie ppl don’t like this but like the boring original movie

I can respect the commentary but i cant agree with it. Feels a bit unfair, theres a lot of character exploration happening in scenes you gloss over or ignore. But, of course, every movie isnt for every viewer. And thats okay.

1- I love the Leatherface Ik it’s the same guy as 2006 but he just looks better in the 2003 movie 2-2006 characters are the best in my opinion atleast the main 3 the brothers and the gf 3-the story of 3D I also like I like the fair scene deadass creeped me out as a kid idk y it’s just some place that’s supposed to be fun not scary and that’s what made it scary to me loll like I coulda been there yk lmao 4- Chop Top 5- it’s a good movie I like it but just bc it’s the first movie doesn’t mean it’s the best IN MY OP!!! Loll 6-you go through the whole movie thinking the big dudes leatherface and not the skinny dude who hit on hot nurses and the sex on the dead body it’s gross and funny af cuz who would do that 7-same like the first movie it’s good but not the best because they drive a Tesla and put gas in it a chain gets throw STILL ON?!? the mask… BUT BUT! I still like it and i don’t know why 8-the kills were Egh and no chop top 9-the themes the acting MSLEATHER! I like Matthew too he’s funnyish but like a stupid funny he’s the only reason I watch it fr

That original movie is trash I’m sorry. Yeah sure it worked for its time in the 70s but it does not age well at all! I have no interest in ever watching that shit ever again lol the sequels obviously aren’t great films but still wayyyyy more rewatch ability

@@RocklinGraves To disrespect this movie publicly is an abomination. I am disappointed, upset, and down right disgusted. Why so bold? Even I can appreciate the lowest of lows in a movie. You make a movie and see if it comes out half as good as this one buddy! Know what I mean “friend”?
