Let's take a lesson from Cinderella's stepmother Madame de la Haltière (Stephanie Blythe) - How to act to attract the Prince's attention. We are not sure if this really works... Cendrillon, AKA Cinderella, will mark the end of our MET: Live in HD 2018 season at Bethanie this year.
“Glorious,” raved the New York Times when Joyce DiDonato sang the title role of Cendrillon at the Royal Opera in 2011. “Her performance was thoroughly enchanting.” Now, for the first time ever, Massenet’s sumptuous take on the Cinderella story comes to the Met, with DiDonato starring in the title role. She is paired with mezzo-soprano Alice Coote in the trouser role of Prince Charming, Kathleen Kim as the Fairy Godmother, and Stephanie Blythe as the imperious Madame de la Haltière. Bertrand de Billy conducts Laurent Pelly’s imaginative storybook production.

"Le coup de foudre!" is my favourite line! Stephanie Blythe's gestures are so expressive as if she's holding a lightning herself! And I really enjoy her rich timbre! Btw, the whole scene is impressive!

I'm a traditionalist. Fat old fashioned primadonnas, have always sung much better than the ...top models. I've seen her in Bastille.She has an enormous voice.And a very good technique. Oh yes ,even with some more kilos ,S.Blythe is a real primadonna.Love her.❤❤❤ Richard Bonynge ,in his research ,was right to insist in unknown Massenet 's works. Esclarmonde,Therese,Griselidis,Le Roi de Lahore ,La Navaraise ,Cendrillon ,Cherubin ,all masterpieces ,of so different & endless vein of inspiration. Massenet = a genius inventor of melodies.💥💫

This 2018 production, with Kathleen Kim as fairy godmother, is my favorite. Unfortunately it isn't available on dvd from the Met. Would appreciate any info on where t.o purchase it

I saw this at the Met, and was frankly disappointed. I had known Cendrillon from the Covent Garden DVD, and while the two principals, neither of them the sopranos Massenet calls, for were in fine voice, the timbre was wrong (and "ayant le physique du costume" hardly describes Coote.) I find not a shred of spontaneity in Blythe's performance, whereas Ewa Podles moves naturally through the role, with a lighter touch, and still gets the laughs. Eglise Gutierrez is astonishing in the London production (same as the Met's) although Kim, in the house, had her great moments too. My main gripe with this upload is that the first two beats are missing! Grrr!
