8 ай бұрынOn October 10th, Meta will begin shipping the Quest 3, its latest virtual reality headset. The $499 Quest 3 delivers some things you might expect from an upgrade to the industry’s top-selling VR games console, like a higher-resolution display and an upgraded processor. But Meta has also made the Quest 3 part of the company’s plunge into “mixed reality” (MR): a term that, right now, typically refers to a video feed overlaid with digital objects passed through to a headset display. Meta’s mixed reality seems to be getting better, but it’s still struggling to demonstrate that the new feature is worth buying into - at least before launch.

Psvr 2 beats this at gaming quality for sure, but if you're looking for a multi use and wireless system, Quest 3 is where it's at.

@@smittyvanjagermanjenson182 It depends on the games you're into, PSVR2 is full of shooters, but if you prefer magic and swords, Quest 3 has Asgard's Wrath 2, Assassin's Creed Nexus and Behemoth.

Pancake lenses are the best. It has a larger sweetspot and it makes the headset thinner.

The lenses make a world of difference. I have the quest pro and i haven't picked up the quest 2 ever since. It's also much more comfortable! Excited for the quest 3 :D

Don't feel alone. These media outlets are haters. Anyone that wants to be jacked in to vr and the real world at the same time understands. LIKE ME! To be able to use my DAW and piano while have floating resizeable screens is really a reality now with these new vr headsets! I'm excited!

Wasted potential more like lol I don't want to see a headset that is only used for gaming. I want apps like a virtual tour of a museum or an app where you can virtually play with archaeology artifacts. None of these types of apps exist and it doesn't look like they will come anytime soon

@@TBMartinThey do have some of those apps. The have the Anne Frank House tour one and an ISS Space Shuttle where you can explore the shuttle and learn about each section.

@@TBMartin It's not a bad idea, nowadays the tools to develop are not that complicated, you could try to do many things including a virtual tour to a museum. There are already applications like EmuVR that allow you to recreate a gamer room, the next step would be to be able to move around the house.

Can you mention a couple use cases that appeal to you about MR? Because I worry that the vision of MR got sold to the world by Hollywood filmmakers, but that none of us would tolerate the privacy-invasive features those stories rely on. To my mind, Google Glass (which I had for a while) was the only version of this that made sense. Largely out of your way, and letting you quickly check attempts to get your attention without pulling out a phone; a space the smart watch world has largely taken over. But if there're some non-gaming use cases that have you excited, what are they? And why don't these infant products have them yet?

@@MahlenMorris VR is when you want to be in another world, MR is when you want to be in this world. VR is awesome, but it's not always nice to be completely gone from the real world. I assume you use your headset mostly for gaming? I myself use my headset not so much for gaming at all. Social games like VRChat i use, but beside that i use it as my computer a lot of the time. Browse the web on a giant screen, watch movies, Reels etc. Literally anything you can do in VR you could also bring to MR for that reason. So many games you can bring into your own house, for example bowling, darts, fitness games, chess, i mean the list is endless. In this way you play them without being totally 'gone from this world' when you don't want that. Gamers tend more towards VR use while none gamers more towards MR (and VR for social VR like VRChat). Meta had an ad today where they showed you can learn play the piano with a VR headset. This is something you would rather do with MR and VR in my opinion.

I have the Pro. If I can see my phone screen better with the 3, then I'm getting it. Having to plug in credentials for apps by removing my headset and putting it back on repeatedly is one reason I don't use it much. I wonder if the higher res will make screen resolution clearer in VR workspaces.

22pd vs quest 3 25pd quest pro has FRending and used is 700 to 800 bucks with all tools and more ram. Not sure how optimal the differences are yet. Best review is Adam savage as he compares both. . Ive see 13 reviews . Quest pro seems more premium overall in parts and better overall value for the Money for 700 to 800 bundled

@@PSYCHOV3N0M My expectation over my Pro is in the improved framerates and passthrough. The optics and panels of the Pro are worth every penny, but the motor under the hood didn't have the muscle to maintain 90 fps in most uses. This ***SHOULD*** give us the 120hz we wanted with the power to hold steady.

The fact that you can augment multiple windows aligned and resized in your workspace without the need to have multiple monitor setup is soo good for productivity. Also, to enjoy a movie in an immersive theatre like experience while sitting on your couch is exciting. I hope this technology picks up more traction n people buy into it.

I want to know how tethered USB works.....will it transfer as actual video this time like type C standard.....or will it use the same poor video over usb data method like the q2 does? meaning restricted bitrate etc. Also,, can it maintain a charge while longer gaming wired, which the q2 couldnt do

It actually can charge while over usb. It just depends on the motherboard I have a zen 3 system Asus x570 ROG Crosshair VIII Hero and my quest 2 drains just as fast as when using un unplugged. My friend recently built a raptor lake system with a MSI Z790 MPG Edge. Even when plugged into the front panel type c port, my exact same quest 2 with the same oculus cable holds a charge and can even increase its charge level on the Intel system.

knowing Meta, they did not consider doing DP over USB-C, so it'll be the same wired tech as the Q2, where the USB-C carries a compressed signal that relies on the GPU to encode/decode the headset would be much expensive if they did add a direct DP connection over Type-C but i'd gladly pay for it. also, it depends on your computer's mobo. i know my laptop while wired can charge my quest as i play in PCVR.

@@Drstrange3000Exclusive to the platform, OP is talking about exclusive to the headset. Devs don't want to drop the massive userbase of Q2 users, games will still run great on Q2 and a good chunk on Q1, OP wants something that uses the oomph of the CPU other than AR.

If it is anything like the last time, it will probably take a full year for actual exclusives to kick in. I think this headset has the power to run stuff like Skyrim And No Man's Sky VR scaled back so I hope we get some announcements next meta game showcase.

More important question is will there be a brightness adjust at launch...Kind of hard to forget how they removed that setting so it never existed on quest 2...but quest1 and go had that...basic screen thing. I got the Blinding level version as many did they did patch it...about a year later....

@@spacedout4061 Perhaps you never had a "to bright" a screen model..but really just brighness level to high. Sideload app existed before update v.25 Some exhanged the q2 due to that but then was low supply for a while at start to

@@Thezuule1 well was 6 month but felt like a year i got min at launch. Patch nr v.25 2021 feb-april (eu takes +1-2 month in updating) was when they "added" the adjust. Exists a forgoten quest brightness sideload app for a reason. Also some got q2 with extra bright displayes like me(setting set to max perhaps?)

Apple was working on VR for a while but weren't comfortable launching their product yet. Meta launching Quest 2 during the pandemic and also owning oculus since 2013 absolutely threw a wrench in apples plans. Apple is actually behind the curve right now and Meta Reality Labs has been churning away with the XR Development using years worth of user data. Vision pro will be good for the Apple fan base.

I’m only interested in this headset to watch movies. The resolution on the Quest 2 is not horrible, but not good; not even full HD. What would be the highest resolution available on KZfaq, Prime, Netflix, BigScreen, etc.?

Mixed reality AR is a very big deal. Once developers begin to realize its potential, the world literally becomes your playground. Everything that you onced imagined as a child becomes possible via AR. So much in the professional sector. Ar as a tool.

Actually this video didn't state alot of things this headset is way better then I thought it was going to be. No screen door by itself is huge and the headset has ai in aswell to top that off it's better then the quest pro

As of now quest 3 has just took king of vr its equal to a varjo aero now inwas expecting something else. I was expecting a win for vr headset not a slaughter. 110 fov confirmed I'm jaw dropped

500 isn't cheap. Yeah, it's cheap compared to a 3,500 apple one but this is expensive (almost double) compared to that Quest 2.

Quest 3 is powered by a mobile SoC. It's stand-alone with a built-in battery. PSVR2 is powered by the PS5 hardware itself. It's tethered. Not wireless at all. Two different experiences targeting two different audiences. Quest has way more games than PSVR2.

PSVR 2 is better in almost every way compared to specs, but the Quest 3 has mixed reality, is standalone (so not tethered) allows for wired or wireless pcvr, and has a bigger library. So it really just comes down to preference

@@Narwhal12 psvr2 can only work with PlayStation which is an instant L. Sure the resolution is nice but other than that it doesn’t compare to the quest

@@AnbuReckz That doesn’t immediately make it worse, it still has a pretty decent and expanding library with good exclusives, it’s just not as big as the quest. I still prefer the extra resolution, better controllers, and eye tracking. Though others would prefer the bigger library

There still isn't a good use case for virtual reality headsets for me. All I want is to watch my 3D Blu-rays by connecting a VR headset to my blu-ray player. Until that happens, I'm sticking with 2D reality. 😂

You can watch 3D movies in a VR headset easily. There's rooms in VRChat that are entirely full of movies. Don't have to rip or download anything.
