When I say the word “Hollywood” you probably think of glamorous and iconic scenes from classic movies engraved in pop culture, signifying a point in history in which film ruled over the entertainment industry with an iron fist. However, around the same time, Mexico was experiencing the same thing in its own film industry. Although films from this time have been extremely influential and culturally recognizable in Mexico, the same cannot be said about audiences in the United States. So today, I want to bring attention to this seemingly forgotten or overlooked era in film history. I’m talking about the Mexican golden age of cinema.

My grandma used to watch these, can't help but to remember her each time I come across a classic Mexican movie. She would just sit in her couch and ask me to find her 50's Mexican movies on youtube and play them.

For me, the inner circle in the Golden Age Mexican Films is the work of Gabriel Figueroa. As Cinematographer he worked with Emilio Fernandez, Roberto Gavaldón and Luis Buñuel. The people and landscapes under the view of Figueroa are memorables, poetics, dramatics and emotionals. Nice Work, Emilio.

thank you for this, i’ve been looking for more opportunities to learn about these films because even though i was too young to pay attention, my dad always had them on and i miss the nostalgia of that

Thank you for putting this together and drawing attention to it. Maybe becoming an aficionado of these classics will become cool bc “no one else is doing it” and it’s from a different culture and “not mainstream”, so hipsters and non-conformists will jump onboard. Regardless, any new audience is better than none, as long as it’s truly appreciated.

Excellent video, the editing and the way you give information makes the video smooth and informative, I'm also a sucker for this age of Mexican Cinema and find myself going back to these films very often, Macario is one of my favorites, even though it was made in the 60s.

There’s a ton of these films for free on KZfaq. Most of them are low resolution and have poor audio quality, but there are some that are surprisingly well restored.

You should read Ceri Higgins book on Gabriel Figueroa-she makes a great argument for not calling it the "golden age." Her analysis is one of the most nuanced takes on Mexican cinema I have ever read.

It's right to call "The Mexican Golden Age of Cinema" this is from 1936 to 1960. Because during this era, Mexico influenced the entire American continent and part of Europe. The Spanish-speaking American countries created their culture as shown by the Mexican cinema of that era.

I agree with so much of what you shared with us. It’s beauty, it’s artistic, it’s classy, and it’s a classical expression of Mexican cinema. I literally just tried to bring these visual perspectives back by re editing an remixing them , cinema scenes, shows, etc. it’s on my KZfaq. 🎥🎞️📽️

I love watching these movies on youtube. I never appreciated them as a child while my parents watched them. Is there a place were they are properly subtitled for non spanish speakers like my gringa wife?

Hello, awesome stuff. After watching your video I have decided to watch María Candelaria but could not find the film. There is an awful quality one on KZfaq but no subtitles. There are subtitIe files independently so there must be a film somewhere on internet. Tried a couple of sketchy looking torrent sites but no luck, do you know where can I find?

Ángel Exterminador, Los Olvidados, Macario, Dos tipos de cuidado, María Candelaría, Enamorada, Él, La Noche avanza, Ahí está el Detalle. That could be a good starting point.

Any recommendations I'm trying to locate this movie had a scene of a guy in a cowboy hat walking and sensing ghost and voices he was hearing externally. It was shot continuously no cuts. It still ingrained in my memory.

@@adriangarrido6220 Wow you got the discription down to what I was describing but it's not it unfortunately. The actor was a litter buffer and heavy stock build. Very last scene of the movie he look distress and something was calling him he put his hat down and weapon down and start walking towards something it was continuous shot no short cuts or transitions. Still black and white film. Thriller theme orientated.

I think the scene you're referring to is from the film "Pedro Paramo", when the main character Juan Preciado, travels to a town in search of his father, a man he never met but only knows his name is Pedro Paramo, when he arrives at the place he realizes is a ghost town (literally) and it has been long abandoned. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jrihZsKozMXUeY0.html

You waste way too much time explaining WW2. We already know know that. And no need to rush your narration. Learn how to pace. Try reading your narration out loud to someone first.
