To raise awareness of the commemoration of the centenary of the disbandment of the Machine Gun Corps 1922-2022, the Vickers MG Collection & Research Association organised a shoot of sixteen Vickers machine guns at the National Rifle Association, Bisley, Surrey. This had been the Machine Gun Training Centre for the Machine Gun Corps (Motors) so an apt location. Held on 3 July, around two weeks before the disbandment anniversary, it involved around 60 people, all who had been trained, and 16,000 rounds of .303-inch ammunition purchased especially for the event.
There is no intent whatsoever to glorify warfare or the destruction that machine guns cause. Machine guns caused death on a scale not previously seen and were the weapons of mass destruction during the Great War. This event hopefully draws attention to the men of the Machine Gun Corps and the men and women who had some links to the machine gun. When watching, consider this is just a small 'taste' of the battlefield and the impact machine guns had.
