If the Midget you are looking at is as bodged as suggested, the reasonable course may be to buy it as a parts car and reinstall all of its components on a Heritage shell. The Heritage unit have been re-engineered to address the issues of corrosion, both by the use of different alloys and thickness of metal, but also by addressing some weaknesses in the original design of the body. It is a radical step, but it will create a car that will last far beyond the length of your interest in it.
