I think you are a bit biased to Geochron. You said they would like to provide all these features for free. I doubt that. They are a business, and as a business they need and want to make money. I purchased an Atlas 2 last fall. I really like it, but I’ve noticed that anything they have added above a minor enhancement, they charge subscriptions fees for it. The initial cost of an Atlas 2 is not cheap, so these additional subscription charges monthly or annually make it feel like you’ve been hooked and now are being nickeled and dimed. The zoom feature should have been an included upgrade and not restricted to only those who buy premium subscriptions.

Right, what does it cost Geochron to zoom in on an ongoing basis?

GeoChron may be implementing changes to their products in the near future. Rather than charging subscription fee's to access premium features, it is rumored that they may change or add an additional option to display in-product advertising. Although ads are annoying, it's an alternative way for a company to offer users the full experience for free, while at the same time earn revenue from showing ads within the product. This additional option is just a rumor and nothing mentioned above has been confirmed as of yet. But if you're interested in GeoChron, it would be best to visit their website for the most accurate and up-to-date information. Hope this helps.

The 'Time Mapper UHD' will show you the paths of Solar Eclipses over the period 2021 - 2100, grouped by decade. They are just one of the available 60 layers, and 25 base-maps. All for $25.
