Thanks to the Midland Railway Butterley ,Alex Homer and Michael Powell for this interesting look at the signal cabins at the Midland Railway Butterley,Derbyshire , this video has a look inside the cabins and at some of the signals on the railway itself.
There is a second part to this video covering the Signal box and Signalling at Swanwick Junction as there’s so much there to see so it deserved its own video alone.

@@irseminorrailwayssection9491 Hi there. I was involved with a lot of work that went into installing the MRT's signalling including recovering Ais Gill, Kilby Bridge and Kettering Station boxes (amongst others) and can give you a few more details. At Hammersmith the telephone concentrator didn’t come with the box, it was from stock and used to be connected to signal post telephones at the west end of the station. The rather fancy MR points indicator is (as it says) for 19 points at the west end of the station. The odd looking switch on the shelf wasn’t from Kilby Bridge either (although Kilby would have had one), they were a common feature in many boxes for connecting the block circuit phone to the box on one side or the other. The description of the layout at Kilby is inaccurate I’m afraid. Kilby Bridge was the end of a four track section of railway that started way back at Tapton Junction and was claimed by many to have been the longest stretch of four track railway in the country at one time. The box was ‘shoe-horned’ in between the down goods and a pair of sidings behind the box which served (I believe) a clay pit. As a result it was necessary to have a base so narrow that oversailing was required front at back. At Butterley the underslung ‘gallows’ signal was made from parts in stock, as was the Up Home signal. I doubt any of it came from Westhouses. The stock of parts collected by the Midland Railway Project group (associated with Derby museum) came from all over the former Midland system. All were stripped and went into stock ready to build what was needed for their specific locations back at Butterley.
