Well I'm convinced this song is The Midnight's opus. It condenses their entire theme of "Mono no aware", the beauty and sadness of realizing that our lives are a series of opening and closing doors, into a single track. Also it's the crown of the album that at the beginning asks, "Are we all one beating heart?" The answer here is yes. Yes we are.

This is undoubtedly the best song of this album. It feels as if it is telling us a story of different people all at once. At one instant, it talks about friends, or comrades, departing with heavy hearts where they know they have sad life ahead with different stories to look forward to. They drift apart with heavy sobbing eyes knowing all those cherished moments might probably not come again; all those laughs and chortles and warm hugs might not ease their pains anymore. Everything is gonna be changed and past is gonna haunt yet save and make happy at times when there's nothing but beautiful memories to hold on to. At other, it tells us not to get closer to people or else we'll end up hurting and tearing ourselves apart. It beautifully points out a reason and draws an analogy of darkness singing to us as to why there are different seasons of our heart. There is a reason for that too. Reasons why we humans have this ability to feel innumerable emotions and that too all at once. We are meant to go through what we do, and feel what we are fated for. Further, it beautifully depicts a very romantic scene to us. A scene in which someone is seeing someone in a hotel who is too beautiful and pretty to be together with. A moment where one feels it almost almost unbelievable as to how one is lucky enough to witness that majestic beauty unveiling in front of oneself. A moment in which song asks us not to even blink for it may end; not to even think or it may fade. A small, short moment to just capture and save that glimpse till death. And sadly, where one realizes and questions, is it too beautiful because it's not meant to last? In the end, it hits us with a beautiful note of us being same in whatever place, religion or state we think we are. In light or in dark, we are but in a constant stream of time floating us to an unknown, imaginary valley. A valley beyond a thick, foggy forest where our hearts beat as one. A land where there is a season of light and love; a place where a slow passing breeze caresses our face and softly whispers to us: "See, you made it". Midnight, you're a true wonder. Thank you!

There’s not one The Midnight album that I haven’t purchased. These guys deserve every penny for their talent and efforts and creating music that is not only creative but harkens back to a time when music was just good, inventive, innovative, unique, complex, etc. Unlike much of today’s music that all sounds the same (for the most part). Keep doing what your doing Tyler and Tim-the synthwave community and any community that enjoys good music thanks you for the time spent on these songs!

It occurred to me at that exact moment that, in real time also, the sun was also setting on your time on this planet, having been shared the tragic news that you had only days left to live. Every time I hear this song now, it reminds me of you and your beautiful sunset 🌅 And it makes me tear up. You will be missed terribly by myself and your other fans. This song takes me back to when I met my wife, us running around Chicago, late nights of spontaneous fun. Today is like a freight train full of chores, kid stuff, bills, appointments, job losses, interjected with moments of just holding each other just to get through. The longing to be carefee again haunts us both. Been on this train ride with her for 24 years and don't plan to get off. Love you, Noodles.

I am thoroughly convinced these guys are incapable of producing sub standard music. Memories, Brooklyn and this one are among their most calming songs I can think off of the top of my head. I’ve been listening to this on loop the entire day (even at work) and thankfully didn’t miss the last train 😅

Finally! This is the vibe I was after! It's lyrically dense enough to put you in a thought provoking trance. Definitely one of my favourites from the album. The vibe reminds me of Sunset, which is probably why I love it so much!

this song is one of my top favorites from this album. words can't explain the amount of nostalgia I'm getting from memories I've never had. The midnight really knows how to build a movie or like a story in your head while listening. Truly remarkable :)

Tim's super amazing arrangement and mixing with Tylet's heavenly built lyrics and voice just makes me fall into a time travel back to 80s. It's a time that I wasn't born but I don't know why it's like it always in my memory. It's so beautiful.

I have a theory about hearing the robot voice at the end of the song after hearing it in the beginning during America Online. The robot voice is the kid being young and looking for love on the internet “America Online”. “are we all one beating heart? Or are we strangers?” Years later after going to “Prom Night” and moving to “Brooklyn” he reconnects with an old friend (his date from Prom Night) and they fall in love after a night out in the city when they both miss the “Last Train” and start seeing each other “in a different light”. As he hold hands with his new lover walking out of the hotel he finally gets his answer. “We are on beating heart.”
